Friends’ height difference isn’t nearly this dramatic but people notice. She’s 6’ and had trouble getting dates. He’s 5’6” and asked her out. She said she’d wear flats and he said it was okay to wear heals. She loves high heals and never wore them on dates. Other guys are the ones who give him grief.

u/j0hn_wuck2712 Aug 13 '21
Idk what's the prob with heights, it's completely normal and natural
Ppl in this age tryna normalize all kinda fucked up shit but things like these are still taken as weird

Evolutionary instinct says the bigger male is generally the alpha, so it’s something that’s easily stigmatized
8
u/KisakiSakura Aug 14 '21
The whole alpha thing is bs anyway. Leadership qualities have more to do with charcter than hight.
6
u/zenith4395 Aug 14 '21
It mattered until intelligence was prioritized over strength. Nowadays, it shouldn’t matter how big or small you are, just that you’re a decent human being
6
u/KisakiSakura Aug 14 '21
There are physical attributes that matter evolutionary speaking, like a certain amount of symmetry, when choosing a mating partner. Still, alpha is used for social structures and height is - once again - not the deciding factor for a good leader. And no, I'm not just talking about intelligent humans. Look into the animal world. Look at a pack of dogs for example, the one leading can be a chihuahua or malteser or a jack russlle when the pack has golden retrivers and other large breeds, too. And then there is the whole part of matrichal structures in human evolution, where women were leaders instead of men. Men have convinced themselves that size matters a lot. It doesn't.

I have a friend whose husband is 2” shorter than her. Not a huge deal but he actually loves it when she wears heels because it makes him feel like he’s with a model (his words)
14
u/lowerchelsea Aug 13 '21
Am I your friend? My husband says this! It makes me feel so confident!
9
u/XxOlive Aug 13 '21
Haha I don’t think I know you but we can be friends! I’m glad your husband makes you feel confident (as you should be!)

u/dranzerfu Aug 13 '21
high heals
wear heals
I guess he "healed" her anxieties eh?
10
u/designgoddess Aug 13 '21
Some days I'm more on top of it than others. But he actually did help her with her anxieties.

That's so sweet! When he ran away and she looked sad that really got to me. I love the ending :)

I used to work with a tall lady (she was a few inches taller than me) from what she told me, this is actually a pretty common occurrence for tall girls. Apparently her dating pool was massively limited due to her height. I don't understand how because she's very beautiful and great to talk to.
Thinking about it, one of the reasons she latched onto me was probably because I never mentioned her height, I didn't even notice it until someone else brought it up.
63
u/Drakendan Aug 13 '21
Some men think that tall women are out of their league or possibly feel 'emasculated' because of society standards. Some women either want men as tall as them, or feel insecure about dating shorter men as they think they won't be liked.
Truth is we should all just focus on getting along and liking each other for who we really are, these things can be worked out with love and caring. But society pressure and standards kinda veil this truth even though things are a bit better nowadays (more openness from both sexes about overcoming the above difficulties)

u/Durty_Durty_Durty Aug 13 '21
I’m a short guy (5’5”M) and I have actually had better luck with girls taller than me. Of course people will kinda tease you but it’s never anything real mean hahahah. My first real relationship was with a 5’9” girl and my current gf is 5’8”. I used to never ask out gals that were taller than me because I thought I’d never have a chance, boy was I wrong. Don’t limit your dating field just because of what you assume!
16
u/Aevio11 Aug 13 '21
I never really understood these complaints, because my brain doesn't calculate height as part of the "is she attractive" equation. Either she's hot or she's not, and whether she's 4'8" or 6'5" doesn't actually figure into that one way or the other, in my head.
If anything, tall girls have an advantage in that they have more leg to show off than shorter girls do lol.
6
u/MamaOnica Aug 13 '21
Shorter woman here, I'm mostly legs.
13
u/whateveryouthink1440 Aug 13 '21
Tall girl here. I'm very leggy as well. However, dresses, skirts and pants look shorter on me.
I also get described as a "big" girl. That has given me a complex over the years. I'm 5'11" and weigh around 145lbs. So actually I'm on the skinnier side but it's hard to be called thar big girl without it affecting you.
I always wanted to be petite! Petite women have always been what I would consider ideal for society. That is my perspective. I may have a different experience than others but that has been my experience. 🙂
4
u/MamaOnica Aug 13 '21
I've got those kinds of legs too. Everything is 2 inches too short.
I've always wanted to be taller! lmao I wanted to be a model when I was a kid, but due to a toxic, mean mother and reading up on how the shortest model at the time was 5'6, I convinced myself I'd never make it.
My bone structure is small for my height. I should be wearing petite sizing, but they don't fit because my bum is too big to fit in pants that fit my waist, my legs are too long, and I don't have enough boobs. lmfao
Can we trade??
3
u/whateveryouthink1440 Aug 13 '21
Lol. I feel you. I am thin as well so nothing fits!! Uugghh. Plus a lot of stores start talls in sizes 12 or 14. Does nothing for me!! I wish I had a bigger butt. Lol
I have always been told I should be a model but due to being shy and a lack of self-confidence I never pursued it. I guess the upside is I eat whatever I want and may vary weight wise 5 pounds or less. I feel fat but I guess I'm not. Every time I lose any weight, random people chastise me. I find it odd. Lol
2
u/Aevio11 Aug 14 '21
Don't worry, nobody wants to date that girl that eats a triscuit and says she's full so she doesn't have to hork up her breakfast before a show :p

u/-goneballistic- Aug 14 '21
My wife's your size and got/gets called that.
It's part of why she likes me. I'm 6'5" and she said it was the first time she felt petite
2
u/whateveryouthink1440 Aug 14 '21
Lol. I get that!! Nobody gets that unless you are taller than most!! Thanks for sharing!
2
u/___Burner_Account___ Aug 14 '21
In my head I've thought of some women as "big" and some as "petite", and they have almost always been attractive to me. I know that you dont like the way it sounds, but one of the most beautiful women I've come across was 6'0, a big girl by my estimation, who completely owned the fact that she is taller than 99% of women.
The point that im trying to make is being called big vs petite can be done with good intention. You are obviously very lean (145lb at 5'11") so probably no-one meant "fat" when they said "big".
That said, after reading your comment i think I'll be very careful of calling a woman anything.

u/Aevio11 Aug 14 '21
Lol just meant as an absolute length, rather than as a percentage. You could be 50% leg and still have shorter legs than a girl who's over 6' 😛
Though your post did remind me of this lol.
23
u/BeeGuyton Aug 13 '21
Looks like you are attracted to her, because you've said she's beautiful and great to talk to. Idk?!
32
u/NotHyoudouIssei Aug 13 '21
I'd be lying to you if I said I wasn't attracted to her, she's a really sweet girl and a pleasure to be around.

I'd be interested to see a study on dating prospects of being a short man vs tall woman. To keep it in the normalish range let's say both genders would be 6" off the average.
5'3" Man (average is 5'9")
6’5’10” Woman (average is 5'4")I feel like the reaction would depend on the population on the other side of those numbers. Meaning a 6'3" man might not think twice about a 5’10” woman and a 5' woman night not think twice about a 5'3" man.

u/Ricky_Rollin Aug 13 '21
This kind of explains a lot. I am in my late 30s and dating again and somehow all of the single girls I keep getting dates with seem to tower over me and I was trying to figure out if maybe I just attracted tall women or what but this is kind of filling in those blanks.

u/serenwipiti Aug 13 '21

Knew a couple like this. Asked him how it worked. He said when I'm toes to toes with her my nose is in it, and when we're nose to nose my toes are in it. Then gave me the biggest smile. I'll never forget that.
