This is actually something I’m seriously considering. Funerals are really expensive and something about being cremated seems impersonal to me. Doing this (in my mind) allows my family and loved ones an opportunity to be near me always as i would request they plant me at our family home and to never chop the tree down.

Do it. Look into the laws of your state about where bodies can be interred (cemetary only? on private land?). Get those wishes in a will and tell it to your family. Do all you can to make sure it will happen.

Where would people be buried though? I assume it would replace contemporary tombstones in a cememtary, some might even do it at their home, although I'd be scared if little Timmy and the dog dug up grand pappy's femur

Presumably at the family home.

I hear this. I definitely don’t want an expensive elaborate funeral. When I die safely dispose of my remains and carry on. My memory and the effect I was able to have on people will be my lasting legacy. I don’t even want a stone or urn to mark my passing.

This sounds like it would be right up Neil deGrasse Tyson's street

Funny take, but seriously it would be strange to eat from Daddy's tree would it not?
