Buying a 50G bowfront tank today with fluval 306 cannister filter. I'm not new to keeping but I'm not the most experienced. Currently have a 29 gal community setup planted that's doing quite well. I really enjoy densely planted aquariums so fish I'm looking for fish that are compatible with plants.
I would love discus but I'm not prepared to change the water 2-3 times a week so I'm gonna wait until I get a bigger tank to get them when I move to a bigger house.

Good plan on skipping the discus. They need more space regardless of water changes. Unfortunately there are a thousand combinations so any ideas here will hardly scrape the surface. Discovering species we like is a fun part of this.
I love the look of having a bigger school of small fish along with a smaller school of big fish - they compliment each other well. Then some action on the bottom and a feature fish that tends to own the tank. So for example in my 55 now I have Glass catfish (big schooler), ember tetras (small schooler), kuhli loaches (bottom) and pearl gouramis as the festure fish. Plus some otos and shrimps to fuss about.
