Yeah, Mississippi is crappy compared to the super rich standards of the US.

You're still better off living in Mississippi than all but a couple dozen countries on the planet - basically Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the US, and Northern and Western Europe.

That's not true. Being dirt poor in mississippi is a hellish torture where you have access to basics like education or healthcare, let alone employment. People are way too happy with how most people actually live in our shittiest states.

Being dirt poor in Mexico is orders of magnitude worse than being dirt poor in Mississippi.

I'm not saying that Mississippi is great.

But it is American suck, not Mexican suck.

where you have access to basics like education or healthcare, let alone employment.

People have access to all of those things in Mississippi.

But why are we comparing a poor American state to Mexico?

People have access to all of those things in Mississippi.

Then why are so many people poor, stupid, unemployed and unhealthy in Mississippi?

Because stupidity decreases your ability to do useful work, making it more likely you will be unemployed or have a bottom tier job because you are too incompetent to do better.

And stupid people are more likely to make poor healthcare decisions, like eating too much food (Mississippians are quite obese overall) and not seeing the doctor when they need to.
