What is a super popular TV show or movie that you can’t stand?

Always makes me think of the black mirror episode about these kind of shows.

That episode was so dark. One of my favourites but just brutal.

I always have an alternate ending playing in my head that sucks the darkness out of it lol. At the end, after he abandons his principles for money, he gets a call from his pornstar girlfriend and they meet up at a fancy party, they see each other and cheer, dancing and drinking champagne- they're living the high lives, he's rich, fuck it. Kind of like a take on this ancient Derrick comedy sketch with Donald Glover

But... she's still a pornstar...

My favourite is the one with the pig

It was a bold way to begin a series.

Seems to have panned out well for them.

I can imagine the pitch meeting "so we're going to start the show off with the British PM banging a pig to set free the princes..."

And the whole thing is an elaborate art piece by a less stable Banksy

The pig episode doesn't get enough love. Unlike said pig.

I stopped watching black mirror cuz of that episode. Where the girl is forced into porn and the guy doesn’t have any credits to skip the ads. Kinda fucked me up for a while.

There are many great episodes after that especially White Bear and Nosedive.

I thought Nosedive was less enjoyable than the Meow Meow Beanz episode of Community.

Best "episode" of the first two seasons has to be the Christmas special with Hamm.

That episode is pure torture. The entire series is based around psychological torture. Such a good show but definitely not for the faint hearted.

Brings up a lot of good ethical questions about tech that is only theoretical. Rick and Morty meanwhile brings up the concept to then casually sidestep all ethical issues by sledge hammering it, like the miniverse box.

Not to disregard your taste, but I really don't see the appeal of Nosedive. The episode seems to me really not subtle in the technology might be dangerous and the end is just a pure cliche. White bear was fun tho.

Nosedive was already done by Community with Meow Meow Beanz and it was way better. Then The Orville did yet another one that was a little more Twitter/cancel culture (with death!), S01E07 which might be the weakest of the three. None of them are remotely subtle, but Community is a brilliant comedy so they win in my book.

Nosedive would've been a lot better if it had the more obvious political ramifications, as China's social credit score does. Instead it was all about posting attractive food photos on Instagram and smiling to everyone. Which again, Community did better.

It's definitely more over the top than others but the most realistic and current with how pervasive social media is.

...that's the second episode

I wouldn't be surprised if that's where a lot of people stopped.

First episode is a lot of "this is fuckin weird, but interesting I guess?" Second episode hits a lot closer to home in regards to our society and has bigger emotional impact. That and Daniel Kaluuya is a fantastic actor.

That’s probably my favorite episode of black mirror honestly

I remember seeing that episode around the time my high school sweetheart of 5 years and I had broken up. She was posting stuff on social media with her new bf within two days, “To hurt me as bad as possible.” Seeing her IG posts with some dude from tinder was equally as difficult as if it would’ve just been porn lol

I didn't know what I was getting into with the first episode and it didn't really resonated with me, it was too weird. The second episode was where I got it. Loved the show from that point on.

can you prod my memory? I watched them, but I don't recall that one.
