The irony of boomer grandparents Rant/Vent

Why is it grandparents want their grandkids to have traditional easy names, but then they want to be called mimsi or poppy. It would be easier on us if we could use the word that already exists for that relationship.

We called our grandpa Poppy, then Poppa when we got older. It's common in the Southern USA, at least.
