NSW: 390 new local and 1 overseas cases, 2 deaths reported; 28,198 vaccinations (13-Aug-2021) NSW: Daily Case Update

New cases and information reported in the last 24 hours

  • Local cases:
    • +390 new locally acquired cases:
      • Of these locally acquired cases, 140 are linked to a known case or cluster – 118 are household contacts and 22 are close contacts – and the source of infection for 250 cases is under investigation.
      • Ninety-eight cases were in isolation throughout their infectious period and 43 were in isolation for part of their infectious period. Fifty-eight cases were infectious in the community, and the isolation status of 191 remains under investigation.
  • Overseas cases:
    • +1 new overseas case recorded in hotel quarantine
  • Deaths:
    • +2 deaths reported:
      • A man in his 90s from Newcastle died at RFBI Hawkins Masonic Retirement Village in Edgeworth. He acquired his infection recently as part of the outbreak at the facility linked to a COVID positive staff member.
      • A woman in her 40s died at home in Southwest Sydney. She was a close contact of another confirmed case.
      • NSW Health extends its deepest sympathies to the families and friends of these patients.
  • There have been 6,874 locally acquired cases reported since 16 June 2021, when the first case in this recent outbreak was reported.

I have first hand information of hundreds on doses of Pfizer being wasted (actually into waste) that was ready for vulnerable populations in regional VIC but elders discouraged people to go for their vaccination. This was before delta jn NSW. You can only lead the horse to water. Better education needs to get to those at risk ASAP.
