I dont mind the idea of returning half a statue back to its resting spot, but the idea English people can then visit Egypt to see it is... not necessarily true.
I love the countries history but as a women i wouldnt be comfortable going there.
I'm American and I visited the British Museum when going to Egypt isn't really on the table.
I'm not sure that having artifacts all lumped together in a museum is such a bad thing? Means you can appreciate them all at once rather than like one or two at a time. Plus they're preserved and taken care of. Personally I'm not sure I'd feel terribly upset if the Liberty Bell or Declaration of Independence was displayed overseas. If more people can see and appreciate it, isn't that a good thing?
I think I would be upset if the American history was stored overseas (especially by the British, I mean the irony would be insane) because unlike Egypt, most of our stuff is in its own museum. Egypt isn't exactly having these things maintained.
Just go to Egypt. It’s not dangerous. If you did, you’d probably understand that seeing something in a museum and seeing it where it’s supposed to be are two completely different things.
Yeah this guy neglects to mention that when you "come visit Egypt to see the statue" you will do so while getting harassed by dozens of shady sales people trying to get you on a camel or sell you hats that you don't want. Its a shame the local governments do absolutely nothing to stop their historical sites from becoming awful tourist traps
This is wrong. While there’s a ton of hassling when you visit it’s incredible. If you’re going to visit then I’d suggest staying at the Mena House hotel at least for one night! It’s amazing
That's about to change since the government is planning to relocate the residents of that region to a new area away from the pyramids so they would prevent them from scamming tourists
Horror stories of women whove been there, both from people i know and stories ive read online.
Typically only the men get spoken to, women ignored or harassed. Stories of male hotel workers taking down curtains of hotel rooms so men could see the inside, that kind of thing.
Scary place to be a women without a male chaperone.
As a Scotsman I'm so happy to see you defend me from the tyranny that is the English. They've kept me locked in this god forsaken country full of drug addicts and troglodytes for far too long. If only there was some way to escape the English rule via a referendum or some other democratic process! /s
In seriousness however, please do not try to speak for my nation ESPECIALLY when my nation has already spoke for itself.
You are clearly not aware that England doesn’t occupy or own Scotland then? Given that they don’t, it’s logically impossible for England to free Scotland, as it’s already free.
I’ve been to Egypt bitchboi, its an absolute shit hole just teeming with religious nutjobs and pedophiles and then, as with every place, there are a few decent folk. But having to keep your 9 year old sister in sight every single time you leave the hotel room, for 2 weeks was not fun at all
So no, you ask any western woman (or European or Asian or African or whatever) if they would travel to Egypt, completely alone, you would have 99.9% of them saying no
Okay, let's ignore google and see that State Department literally says "women, watch out for being raped!"
Women Travelers: Many women travel safely each year without incident. However, when it comes to health and security, women travelers are more likely to be affected by religious and cultural beliefs of the foreign countries they visit. The truth is that women face greater obstacles, especially when travelling alone.Women, especially those traveling alone, should exercise particular care in crowds, on public transportation, in rural areas, and in isolated sections of temple and pyramid complexes. Women have been groped in taxis and while in public places. The Embassy continues to receive reports of U.S. citizen women subject to domestic violence, sexual harassment, verbal abuse, and rape in Egypt.
Tell me about it, I've got a governor whose trying to control my wife's bodily choices right here in the US. She gets harassed at work, and repeatedly approached and sometimes followed when out alone.
Not necessarily. When I went to Hurgada, not a single egyptian man acted like an asshole, actually they were quite nice.
The shop clerks would praise you in many ways even tho they did that just to sell you their stuff.
The pharmacist actually gave me pads for a smaller price because I only had few egyptian dollars with me.
The boat captain gave me an opportunity to steer the boat for a minute or so while we were cruising the Nile.
Whenever I had asked for directions, they've tried to explain me in the best possible english.
Hey, I even got a lot of free souvenirs and interesting stuff like one guy wrote my name in arabic on a papyrus bookmarker.
On a trip to Cairo and Luxor, the guide was also extremely nice and caring. While we were in the valley of the kings, I had very painful period cramps and he would ask me every ten minutes if I was okay and if I needed anything, he offered to take me back to the bus if it was necessary.
So... I don't know where all those women got a bad expression of Egyptian men because I definitely plan to visit all those places once again.

yea, surely the thousands of people visiting Egypt all had a wonderful experience just like you and they all made it up. because nothing bad happened to you it doesn't exist. i'm assuming you think covid is fake as well if you've never had it?
What? No. I just said that I was puzzled because I had visited so many places in Egypt and everyone was so kind and nice. Great hospitality there, and that's coming from someone who lives in a country known for it's hospitality toward tourists. I know a lot of people that also went to Egypt and had a great time. Not a single unpleasant experience. This is the first time I've heard someone saying that Egypt is dangerous to women. If they are allowed to talk about their bad experiences, then why am I being downvoted because I shared my good ones? I am sorry if that is the impression you got from my comment.
I didn't say that I didn't believe them, just that I was shocked to hear that women were scared to go to Egypt by themselves.
And to answer your question, even tho it doesn't have nothing to with the topic of this post, I don't believe covid is fake. I've never had it but I am proudly vaccinated and I continue to wear masks everywhere.
