That’s what we mean here when we say “discrete.” These kinds of storms are caused by unstable air that rises quickly and cools slower than the surrounding air. This rising warm air creates a positive feedback loop where it becomes much warmer than the surrounding air as it rises, driving the loop. This can cause these massive towers of cloud that are all by themselves. Additionally, all that rising air will circulate back down around the cloud, preventing anything from forming immediately adjacent to large cells.

Thanks for the comment. Why is it that the clouds only appear in that one area and the rest of the sky is clear. Very interesting indeed.
