I like how there are over a dozen subs for different cat pics, yet they are all perfectly interchangeable 🤣

Can we all stop looking at the colours and appreciate the floofiness of the tummy?

Might be a chimera cat. I’m pretty sure tiger stripes and grey don’t naturally occur together unless it’s a chimera. The colors are like this because of two different DNA’s, one causing grey and the other causing tigerstripes. There’s a research paper online somewhere that will verify whether the colors are naturally occurring or not (too tired to look it up right now)

Calico and dilute can be present simultaneously! There's also something fun called a torbie (tortoiseshell with tiger stripes) that can also be dilute. It's always fun when these cuties come through the humane society.

Without seeing the full cat it's really hard to tell if it's a chimera or not, but I personally have never seen a dilute chimera. It would be possible I think? But you'd need two eggs with the dilute trait to fuse, which is just stacking rarity on rarity.

That doesn't mean it's impossible though. Statistically speaking, some cat had to end up with that specific mix.

People tend to label any cat divided down the middle as chimera because it's a thing that spread around the internet, but that's not actually how chimerism would tend to manifest. None of these cats are chimera - sometimes there's a somatic mutation, but often it's just cases like this where it's a calico - in this case, a dilute calico, giving grey, pale orange and white. The down-the-middle line is a side effect of the way that cats grow bilaterally outwards in the womb combined with the way the x-inactivation manifests, resulting it that kind of pattern being not uncommon.
Most calicos don't exhibit striping but a fair few still do.

Chimeras can be bisected. It would only depend on what the cats back looks like since we can’t tell how the colors mix from the photo provided. Eye color can also mildly indicate if it’s a chimera depending on the colors. Everything depends on the cats back colors, hence why I said it may be a chimera. I’ve never seen such a light colored calico which is why I thought it may be chimera from that but a quick google does show they come in blue and cream orange.

I have a gray cat with some faint but noticeable stripes.

Orange tripes?
Edit: stripes not tripes
2nd edit: huh blue and cream orange is possible in calicos. Here’s a source on chimeras if you wants to check your cat. It’s unlikely but you can get an idea of what to look for just in case

I hope the cat that is black on the left side doesn't see this, or else there could be trouble.

I doubt that this is real since orange cats tend to be completely orange or calico. This looks like someone died the cats hair. Still pretty cute.

It actually looks photoshopped, if you look closer, the gray side is pixelated and blurry. But thank you, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks it's fake.
