Got a video for learning how to use kitty litter properly for my cat?

Place them in the litter then take a paw and gently use it to scratch the litter. The sensation will instinctively start the cat pawing at the litter and they will start peeing/pooping then cover it up. Should only take a few times of this if it doesn’t work immediately.

This 100%. They pick up on it quickly.

Also: kittens will, like any baby, taste anything that looks interesting. Clumping litter is not for kittens because of this.

I have tried that (he’s a ten year old adult), but he gets dramatic, squeals. There’s a lot of “bitey-bitey” and he flees away. I think he gets quite disgusted, and has no idea of what I’m actually trying to get him to do.

Is he declawed?

What about teaching them to not kick as much litter as possible out of the litter box? I'm pretty sure one of our cats does it on purpose, based on the way she examines her work after she does it.

Put the cat in the litter, take its paw and sort of dig with it.

I'm not sure if this is legit, but with my first cat, the first time it pooped outside of the litter box (one day after we first got her), I took the poo and put it in top of the litter, then brought my cat (then a very small kitten) over and showed her. She immediately went and buried the poop. Used the box perfectly since. That said, she was a stray and had already been in the habit of burying her poop, but just hadn't used a litter box before so maybe that made the difference

Oh, have I tried that.

My Turkish van sort of squeals at me as though I’m hurting him. (I’m not!) Then, if I continue, he will try to bite me.

The only time he ever does.

But- he did learn to use the cat food vending machine from my other cat.

I hope all these suggestions work for you! I have three kittens, one jumped in as soon as we put the kitty litter in the pan! It was amazing to see, the other two took a few times to figure it out. I am dog person and cats are really interesting to learn from and learn about.

Thank you! My cat uses the litter, though, instead of burying, he swipes at the walls of the litter box, as though wiping his paws. Then he gets out, and disgustedly kicks his leg with a little shudder.

Haha our litter is right up against a wall and our boy always digs the wall to bury his poop!

That’s what my cat does.

How long have you had him? Mine didn't know how to cat and she started using litter after like 4 days of placing her there and me digging with her paw. Maybe the litter is too tall for you smol cat too.

He’s a big boy. Turkish van. I’ve had him for nigh on ten years now. He refuses to bury!

Lmao ok that's a little too old to hope for a spontaneous change

He’s clever. Just not with his litter.

I taught mine by burying one of her drops in front of her. She picked it up from there. She was a stray and I was surprised how easy it was compared to the complete fail that was trying to potty train mom's chihuahua. She was able to hold it in for HOURS as a puppy and now that she is older many times that.

I will try that! Thank you!

Try using the litter yourself in front of the cat

I’ll try that. Do I just try to imitate the rhino exhibit at the zoo?

No, the elephant exhibit.
