What would be neat though is if for every box you bud they give you like a 1 week sub to watch their shit.

16

u/VeryAlmostSpooky May 25 '21

In that case I’d already have a lifetime membership.

Come to think of it a lot of us would

They are though, have you seen their new inquisitors in action?

I've noticed it turns into this around any announcement or update or release, now. Just a giant screeching shitfest.

2

u/MrSteampunk131 NOT ENOUGH DAKKA May 25 '21

I have to admit i do try to avoid the Reddit for a few days after any new reveal, there’s just always some people claiming that anything even remotely new is stupid and ruining the game

11

u/HobbyistAccount FORTIFY! May 25 '21 edited May 25 '21

Honestly I usually do too. Indomitus got so bad that I actually wandered off for several months. One of my friends at work got into the hobby then, and gave up completely because he said it was one of the most unpleasant communities he's been in.

Fuck, I know people are tired of marine releases and even I was hoping it'd be guard/cron or sisters/cron. And god knows there's plenty I dislike about GW. (Fucking single-run limited edition models... fucking monopose kits... fucking expensive heavy intercessors...)

But the sheer amount of vitriol, the screeching, the whining. It got so bad on the discord that the mods had to publish a new, updated rule list that stated blatantly that "no bashing of/no shit talking about factions or players of factions includes space marines too."

I'm really getting tired of having to take a break from my own hobby because so many immature fucks can't be civil. And it's not like GW fucking hangs out here. They will never see any of this.

I come here to laugh at stupid jokes about the lore, the hilarity of bad paint jobs, unfortunate rolls, wacky/cursed/blursed models, my crippling plastic addiction, the horror of spilled paint and such. Not to have someone whine about how big ol mean company is being big and mean and not fucking catering to them.

One of my friends at work got into the hobby then, and gave up completely because he said it was one of the most unpleasant communities he's been in.

I've been playing for 24 years. I know more people that quit over the actions of players and the player base at large than as a result of GWs actions or price increases. The gulf between the two is so wide you could jam the sued canal with it. Most of those I know that still play for any length of time only still do within a closed friend group just to avoid the That-guys.

I'm really getting tired of having to take a break from my own hobby because so many immature fucks can't be civil.

If you have RES just block the salt posters when you see them. Cleans most subs up pretty quickly.

u/AlliedMasterComp May 25 '21 edited May 25 '21

They will never stop.

The posts have been going on since the 90s, the medium and forums are just different now.

At least the younger kids seem to all have so much social anxiety now that they don't argue with sales staff about decisions beyond their control in the store anymore.

u/Superskybro May 25 '21

Our corporate overlords thank you for defending them from the filthy rabble, your reward is the ability to buy more of our products

42

u/nothin_suspicious Big Tiddy Techpriestess/Resident Horny Bitch May 25 '21

It’s less about defending the corporation and more about telling the people who spam “GW bad” to shut the fuck up.

-5

u/Superskybro May 25 '21

Fair enough, it's a very thin line though

27

u/nothin_suspicious Big Tiddy Techpriestess/Resident Horny Bitch May 25 '21

Yeah, especially since some people really do seem to think that GW is their friend. I can’t say that I approve of everything GW does, I’m just getting sick of the constant bitching and moaning, and it’s nice to see some others are as well.

17

u/Superskybro May 25 '21

Of course, you have to balance your criticism otherwise it's just pointless complaining

Like the people who claim AoS models are "too good" now as a legitimate critique

6

u/HobbyistAccount FORTIFY! May 25 '21

Considering every- and I mean fucking every- announcement, release, hint or sneeze from GW in the last two years has been met with the screeching, burning fury of a thousand white-hot suns... we're fucking well past pointless complaining.

-7

u/Superskybro May 25 '21

Bull shit

11

u/HobbyistAccount FORTIFY! May 25 '21

Yeah, most of the whining is bullshit. But that doesn't stop it.

11

u/spartankelli May 25 '21

GW is a business, and I'll treat them just like any other business. If I don't think I am getting my money's worth, I'll stop buying their products. They haven't crossed that line for me, though. In cost of dollars per hour of enjoyment, they're still a pretty damn good value for me.

Is it still bitching to want to see moar/new nids?

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '21

Nah, you good fam

1

u/Stormcell0083 May 25 '21

Yay! Cause we need moar nids/new nids

2

u/[deleted] May 25 '21

The difference here is you want to enjoy the hobby, you are not saying we need more nids so you can recast them or complain about them!

10

u/Toxie2344 May 25 '21

Print, pirate, save

16

u/Dringus_and_Drangus May 25 '21

Their prices *are* too high, full stop, I don't buy any of their products already. The only thing I ever bought from them was Dark heresy 1e way back in the day and that's no longer being supported.

4

u/RocknRolla101 May 25 '21

So in reality, you bought more from Fantasy Flight Games and less from Games Workshop even then.

3

u/HobbyistAccount FORTIFY! May 25 '21

Now that I will say. FFG did a much better job, and I'll probably never buy Wrath and Glory.

5

u/Ckeeki May 25 '21

I really can't thank enough the people who have released lots of STL files for free so my printer can go brrrrrr

6

u/ThisOriginal7 May 25 '21

I'm going to buy the streaming service to support the animators and writers

-3

u/xfortune I am Alpharius May 26 '21

Ok but did you support them before on their Patreons?

2

u/[deleted] May 26 '21

"they downvoted Xfortune because Xfortune made them uncomfortable"

8

u/CockroachAgitated139 May 25 '21

ITS LITERALLY BECAUSE THEY'RE INTRODUCING A NEW STREAMING SERVICE.

that's what most of us dislike... First Netflix and Hulu, then HBO and amazon, then Disney and peacock, now Warhammer. Let's condense this shit like it used to be

-3

u/Giftmond May 25 '21

are you guys just dense on purpose or smth? what are they supposed to do? use their insane international leverage to force everyone to use netflix again?

0

u/CockroachAgitated139 May 25 '21

No, they're clearly going to force us to use theirs instead.

Why isn't YouTube an option? Give me a free YouTube channel, it can be monetized very easily with ads and it keeps everything on an incredibly accessible platform

9

u/Giftmond May 25 '21

why would you split the money with fucking youtube? they are known to lock out creators from revenue whenever they wish - its not about YOUR convinience, its about THEIR money

-1

u/CockroachAgitated139 May 25 '21

I thought it was about getting to new customers.

0

u/Giftmond May 25 '21

new customers for warhammer as a board game? im a 30 year old myself, and that was a small niche community like 15 years ago already

the stuff is so expensive because they dont sell much, its not so hard to figure out

2

u/Watercrown123 May 25 '21

I’m really confused about what you’re saying here, are you implying that GW will never expand as a company and that advertising is pointless?

0

u/Ornstein15 May 26 '21

The stuff is expensive because they sell well. Most of GW's releases sell out day one and it's not the scalpers doing most of the job

0

u/Giftmond May 26 '21

thats the popularity surge now, the value of their shares is now 20 times higher than just 5 years ago - its the pandemic, once people go back to normal its going to fade into obscurity again

and im not trying to be a negative nancy or smth

7

u/Adamthenormalguy Secretly 3 squats in a long coat May 25 '21

Well then why won't Disney start putting up The Mandalorian on Youtube? It can be monetized very easily with ads and keeps everything on an incredibly accesible platform. /s

-2

u/CockroachAgitated139 May 25 '21

Woah ya, GW is definitely as big as Disney

4

u/Sethleoric May 25 '21

Yeah, anyway you can just pirate them lol.

3

u/SideVermin93 May 25 '21

Thank you wage slave, your company allotted 30 second break begins now /s

1

u/TrustyPatchesss VULKAN LIFTS! May 25 '21

Their prices aren’t even that high if you’re comparing them to what they used to be, it all just about equals out.

18

u/Past_life_God May 25 '21

I mean, considering that I used to get my guardsmen 20 for $35... nah they’re pretty high these days.

That being said, updates roll out at a better pace and new units seem to be getting released far more frequently. I’m okay with that trade off. It’s the stuff like Book of Rust that ticks me off.

-18

u/TrustyPatchesss VULKAN LIFTS! May 25 '21

Inflation is a thing believe it or not

22

u/TheGravespawn Space Corgis May 25 '21

Inflation is a thing. Wages rising to meet it is not. Hence it is more expensive because most of us aren't even given cost of living increases in our pay checks. Myself included.

6

u/Past_life_God May 25 '21

Right, but that doesn’t justify the current cost of $36 for 10 guardsmen.

What does justify it is things like increasing the diversity of the stuff in the kit and continual development of the rules. So again, I’m okay with that trade off because there’s definitely been a clear shift in GW’s business practices than when I started.

1

u/Toxie2344 May 25 '21

If I ever see someone condemn recasts and then bitch about prices I’m gonna shit blood

2

u/Toxie2344 May 25 '21

Full prices and no recasts are for suckers

9

u/CockroachAgitated139 May 25 '21

Just bought 20 nob proxys for $25. I love GW models but I like paying rent more

0

u/nyello-2000 May 25 '21

You say proxys as in original models or are they recast of the GW sculpts

3

u/CockroachAgitated139 May 25 '21

Originals. From Etsy.

1

u/nyello-2000 May 26 '21

Don’t mean to bother but can I see the proxies? I’m interested in more sculpts for my ork army

1

u/CockroachAgitated139 May 26 '21

Did you not get the PM I sent?

3

u/nyello-2000 May 25 '21

I honest to god know a guy in a server who got pissed at me for having recasted minis a while back who I’ve seen nothing but “I’m gonna pirate these shows” out of him like holy fuck

-1

u/Toxie2344 May 25 '21

GW simps are everywhere.

-2

u/MrCemtex May 25 '21

Turnover =/= profit Turnover =/= margin

Games workshop prices are high but they always have been and, as far as I'm aware, have stuck close to inflation

1

u/AstralBroom May 26 '21

I don't care, I'm just an honest to god thief.

1

u/Iliaili May 26 '21

Driving the price too much just force people that like the hobby to leave.

-21

u/MitzieWhilsteBlaum May 25 '21 edited May 25 '21

"Wahwahwah prices are too high! 'throws toy out of pram' Why is GW forcing me to pay for things! 'wimpers' I thought GW cared about me, I thought we were friends! Why GW, why?"

Crazy thought here, If the price of something is too high for you then don't buy it! Or buy less and budget for the rest of the things you want.

Also no company owes you anything, so try getting over yourself. Or keep bitching, which is probably what you'll do.

Prices aren't GW's problem. GW's problem is a lack of diversity and it's blatant Transphobia, but that's for another discussion.
