The amazing part is how fucking stupid his staff is. They kept posting about how “overblown” the pandemic was and about how Covid wasn’t “that bad”, for weeks, even after he had already died of Covid

Man, what a wild time on Twitter lol

1.5k

u/kNyne Sep 13 '21

Yeah let me get this straight, after he died his account tweeted about how harmless the virus is?

1.5k

u/UnlikelyKaiju Sep 13 '21

Yep, and his family has since taken control of the account to spread more of the same bullshit propaganda that got him killed in the first place.

I have no idea why Twitter didn't simply close the account the day he passed instead of letting those ghouls speak for the dead like some kind of political version of Weekend at Bernie's.

338

u/GTSBurner Sep 13 '21

FWIW, multiple celebrity accounts are still somewhat active after they pass, run by either the family, the manager, or in Roger Ebert's case, his company.

Some examples I can think of are DM, Bowie, Roger Ebert, BJ Thomas, Laura Branigan (who actually passed before twitter started in 2004, and led to an awkward incident when the STL Blues won the Stanley Cup), there's quite a few others.

San Lee's accounts still post stuff, but its all promotional, and anniversary type things.

31

u/GTSBurner Sep 14 '21

Well, I mean, after you pass, that's the majority of the content they have. Bowie's account basically RTs pictures, RTs tweets from Iman, etc.

Honestly, one of the weirder, bizarro universe things I've seen that made me stop and think, Fuck, it's a simulation.

Every generation thinks something like that depending on the technology of their day, so this thought isn't new, but that just seemed too weird to not be programmed.

And hilarious. I'm sorry but he was dead and they were like, nah it's just a flesh wound

Apparently his Twitter account was set up to automatically post predetermined tweets on a regular basis. His employees failed to cancel the automated tweets after he died.

Yes that's what I thought too. I did social media for a computer brand for my college like 12 years ago and even then there was a free program where you can schedule tweets and Facebook post.

516

The left and not real Americans. I still don't understand how these right wing psychopaths can deny the overt racism. They had a goddamn black section at the rally!!

331

Just "the blacks". We're not people according to them, so they refer to us like light levels on an led TV.

394

u/SlasherDarkPendulum Sep 13 '21 Gold

Yep, I've spent approx. 20 years pretending like I don't hear phrases like "Bad beaner" or "we'll get a Mexican to do it" from countless white people who genuinely don't see the problem with such statements.

You're not a person to them unless you're white. And those who get to the top are treated like circus monkies, applauded for their ability to aspire to a level of whiteness most POC can't.

Watch Herman Cain dance for Trump!

192

u/McEndee Sep 13 '21

If you have to shed your cultural identity to be part of the club, then you're acknowledging that you're not respected as a person of color. They hate that diversity, but will be at the Mexican bar on May 5th pounding tequila and eating tacos.

165

u/CRT_SUNSET Sep 14 '21

Perfect example of this:

I have a friend who is an Asian woman who married a white man. They were at a country club lunch and were sat with fellow golfers. Several at the table began making fun of a table of Koreans nearby, mocking their eyes, accents, etc.

My friend’s husband was incensed and said to these people: “Do you not see my wife sitting here??”

To which they replied: “Oh, she’s different. She’s one of us now!”

I was at a scout meeting where the leader’s wife said she wants her son to get eagle because minorities were getting the upper hand everywhere and white people have to do extra to compete with them.

I am japanese american. Another group member is filipino. Um…. Thanks?

She didn’t even realize what she was saying.

My husband is a veteran (military fam, great uncle served in the 442 during WW2) so they automatically assume we agree with them on everything

71

u/Betta_jazz_hands Sep 14 '21

I come from a police family and chose to teach at a low income school instead of becoming a cop, and family functions suck for this reason. They talk so much shit about the kids I love deeply, and assume I’ll agree with them just because they raised me. It’s horrible.

It's the staff that was all in on no distancing for the rally. Rachel Maddow talked about it. The Big Oklahoma rally had social distancing stickers every other chair, I think from the local building workers. They removed them and there was no social distancing, just so Trump would feel happy from lots of people looking at him. The rallies were just to soothe his ego because he was bored.

That might have been what got him because it was a big covid event.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/workers-removed-thousands-of-social-distancing-stickers-before-trumps-tulsa-rally-according-to-video-and-a-person-familiar-with-the-set-up/2020/06/27/f429c3be-b801-11ea-9b0f-c797548c1154_story.html

And every major news outlet has reported massive dips in viewer engagement, if not noticeable revenue loss, since the start of the year. Even if many of the individuals employed there felt that Trump was a genuine danger to the country, corporate knows where it gets its bread buttered.

I don't expect the calm to last, and I'm genuinely dreading who the GOP will field in 2024.

87

u/Praescribo Sep 13 '21

And I fully expect itll be hilarious. Trump is a changed man by presidency. The job drains every president, but his attitude has become absolutely rotten (I guess double rotten?).

During debates with other conservatives theres going to be explosive resistance, likely one-sided temper tantrums (like the one trump had with Biden in their first debate) and trump will be made to look like a fool every day. Remember when the alt-right were concerned about trump embarassing them for a day or two after that debate?

47

u/fesxvx Sep 13 '21

Will there even be debates with other conservatives? I think he would run unopposed, no one in the GOP has the guts to run against him as the last 5 years of brown nosing has shown.

I do think it will be hilarious in the sense that he did absolutely nothing to gain the support of the middle, in fact he did as much as he could to alienate centrists and appease the base. And since he's left office, he has tripled down on this strategy. Other than the MAGA cult, would any centrist/rational lean GOP vote for the dude, knowing the disarray and chaos he would bring once more? I think he would get even fewer votes than in 2020.

29

u/Praescribo Sep 13 '21

Oh yeah, there'll be debates, but all the candidates are going to try to be the next trump, but probably more like diet trump. That wont be enough for the conspiracy theory crowd, dumb as they are, theyll see right through it.

I dont think the candidates will know how to play a different game besides mudslinging before the election, and playing nice after. Theyll come at him hard and try their best to be the 4chan to trump's 8chan. The opportunity to gain the trump sheep is too tempting, but theyll fail

They do not believe nor care about the shit they are saying they are literally only saying it because that is what their base wants to hear. They make more money the more popular they are, their own beliefs be dammed it is all about whatever the voters want to hear. Its about staying in office, and its ultimately about money and power.

I'm 100% convinced if we took some of the events and characters from the last 5 years, wrote a book or movie about them, and went back in time in 2014, no one would buy it because it would be totally incredible. The movie The Campaign is tame by comparison, and it's a freaking Will Ferrell movie - yet reality is even more ridiculous than that. The fucking dripping hair dye, man. Clearly he's in need of help, and I'd be sympathetic if he weren't so despicable.

There are so many absurd things from the Trump presidency that we've already forgotten about, that if it happened to any other administration, would have been a defining moment of their entire presidency.

Like, he tried to buy a country. He used a sharpie to change the predicted path of a hurricane after he was wrong. He said windmills cause cancer. Bush trying to leave through a locked door feels so boring and un-noteworthy now.

165

u/DocPeacock Sep 13 '21

Shit like that happened about every week and we just got desensitized.

Bush Sr. vomiting on the Japanese PM's lap has its own Wikipedia article. Trump incidents in the same ballpark of absurdity would have to be in its own wiki.

37

u/ThatsWhatXiSaid Sep 13 '21

Is there such a wiki?

There was so much with Trump I feel like I've forgotten 95% of it; things that would have destroyed any administration in saner times. Preferably something that attempts to rank or group the incidents based on severity, and definitely with sources.

I wonder why the team that runs that account stopped all of a sudden in March 2021. Did they all get the award collectively as well? Did their funding end?

173

u/DrumMajorThrawn Sep 13 '21

Based on personal work experience, sometimes smaller outfits with a social media presence will schedule tweets to be posted over a period of time using a service. It's possible either they or the marketing firm they hired didn't cancel the future messages when he died. And that is the gift that kept on giving.

89

u/nowherewhyman Sep 13 '21

But that would mean that he had tweets scheduled for over 8 months out? I don't think that's what happened here.

The Twitter account also rebranded itself to "The Cain Gang" after he died. I'm pretty sure I remember it was being run by his family.

31

u/DrumMajorThrawn Sep 13 '21

Maybe a mix of both? The posts after his death aside from the ones that were deleted seem like more the common stock that riles up conservatives. They didn't really stand their ground on the covid posts that came out after, they deleted them which made me think they were scheduled via Hootsuite or comparable.

Also important to note that Herman Cain's death didn't affect Republican messaging at all. A former presidential candidate, stumping for the current incumbent, died and NO ONE CARED. Not one Republican stopped to say that we have to try harder to stop the spread of covid because we lost Herman Cain. He was no longer useful to them, and his death was a mere inconvenience.

The award is important because THAT IS ALL YOU GET. You don't get anyone important outside of your immediate family caring that you died. You don't get the people you voted for trying to save you or your family from this. No one from the current death cult that is the Republican party will do anything to make it so others don't suffer like you did.

Congratulations.

-Herman Cain, dead as a doornail thanks to Sars-Cov-2.

u/JackWorthing Sep 13 '21

Ha! Pretty much encapsulates the Republican doublespeak when it comes to COVID. It’s a hoax! But if it’s not it’s a Chinese plot to destroy America. The vaccine is useless! Also Trump should get all the credit for developing it.

25

u/A_Rising_Wind Sep 13 '21

I have family members who are anti vaccine and are always going off about “big pharma”, yet love Trump. I asked them if they remember it was Trump who accelerated the vaccine, exempted FDA approvals and got vaccinated himself.

So why is it the left that’s pushing the agenda? Honestly, pushing the vaccine is one of the few not completely insane things that trump supported.

u/McCainDestroysTrump Sep 13 '21

Excess deaths state the actual US Covid death total is most likely over 900k, so it would be pretty safe bet to blame Trump for 700k deaths considering the ongoing problems we have are directly linked to his non stop detrimental rhetoric for well over a year.

Pin it! This is also the quality we should be going for.

  1. Publicly reject the seriousness of the situation
  2. Publicly deny/mock the advice of health professionals
  3. Get sick
  4. Die

You can add in any combination of vaccine conspiracy, mocking the sheeple, political chest beating, faith in a higher power - but this should be the standard here.

31

u/D_D Sep 13 '21

I just looked and the Nazis are claiming he died of cancer. Reality simply doesn't matter to them. May they all follow in his path.

140

u/DaniCapsFan Team Moderna Sep 13 '21

He did have cancer, which made going to a maskless event a really stupid idea. He was elderly and a cancer patient; that made it easy for COVID to really fuck his shit up. I suspect that had he survived long enough to get the vaccine, he would refuse that as well, even though he's in two groups that would give him top priority for getting jabbed.

I would just like to say, that I was proudly at that rally in Tulsa... with protest sign in one hand, and a box of masks in the other hand. It was hot as fuck. We were non violent, but were still blamed on the low turnout. Trump had Air Force 1 fly overhead so he could see the crowd and we all got good pictures of us flipping it off.

They had this large overflow area all set up, with a stage and speakers, and a bunch of TV screens.. they began to take it down before the rally even started.

We even helped a Trumper who collapsed from heat stroke.

Also.. for the record, Nickleback has sold out the BOK center.. Trump didnt even come close.

They had marked all the seats for social distancing before anyone was let inside.. but then the Trump team went around and moved all the signs. No wonder Herman Cain got HermanCained...
