Now here’s something different. A Trump-hater who nevertheless swore off the vaccine early on because she feared it was the mark of Satan. After a rough bout with covid, she’s turned around. Redemption Award

My parents had a friend who was a pastor. One day, he told them he was prayerfully asking them for a loan of twenty thousand dollars so he could start up a business. They didn't have that much money to spare, but they lent him ten thousand.

It took them a great deal more than prayer to get that money back eventually.

My uncle lost EVERYTHING to an evangelical pastor, same excuse, but my uncle was the only in the family who was wealthly, not anymore though, worst part, the pastor died from covid for not being vaccinated, and he had been living for free on a house ge was going to "buy" from my uncle once the "profit" from the business venture came through, now, dont feel bad for him for decades he was an asshole.

You know, the myths say his son could feed a multitude, or turn water into wine. So why does sky daddy need money? Can't he just create it, just like he did the fishes in the sea?

George Carlin had a bit about how sky daddy is broke, and definitely can't manage his heavenly money.

Depends on where you live. Some parts of the world, it is certainly that way. In the USA it was for the first 4 or 5 months. Getting appointments for the vaccine was difficult. Today, not so much. Everyone who wants the vaccine has gotten it.

7

u/thisisheckincursed Apr 28 '22

This 100%. It was only the frail + elderly people who could get it first in my state, but so few were actually getting it there were extra vaccines and I was just waiting for months hoping not to get sick before I was allowed to make my appointment.

I was grateful but at the same time, my medical team told me it would take at least 3 shots to be effective for me. Plus there was the fact that I am married with one son. My wife couldn't get the shot early. My son couldn't get it at all (too young) until last fall. It was a messy period of time for sure.

She’s probably right about thinking a second case of COVID would have finished her off. We saw a large number of unvaccinated people with their second case get extremely sick and/or die, even if their first case wasn’t terrible or they were able to get better at home with antibiotics and steroids from their primary care physician. Round 1 had (unknown to them) done a number on them with lung scarring, organ damage, heart arrhythmias, etc and when round two hit them (especially if it was Delta) they were dead meat.

I particularly remember one older lady who came in boasting about how the first time she only spent three days in the hospital the first time and just needed oxygen while there. She came up from the ED on heated high flow, which is a large amount of oxygen to start your admission. By this time we had decadron, remedesivir, etc so I watched her slowly get sicker and sicker over three or four weeks before finally getting tubed. For some the medicines only prolonged their death; before we had any effective treatments they’d die within 3-5 days of admission.

It is interesting how the whole Jesus fanaticism isn’t as intense when you remove trump from the mix. The Trumpers use the “protected by the blood of Jesus” crap as some kind of excuse they think people won’t challenge since it’s a god thing.

Yes, we're basically watching a very slow moving plague. This is the Bubonic plague killing millions, but in a much slower way. Some die slowly to start with. Those who refuse the vaccine get the first infection and survive, but maybe die or get severe complications the first year. Then those who get it again will get much more severely wounded or fatally. And so on. There will be a third go around, a fourth. This virus has had maybe 6 major mutations in just 2 years. At some point those who refuse the vax or the masks will be invalids or dead.

The vast majority of the time the extreme antivaxxers who drag others into severe harm or death never face those feelings, because they blame everyone except themselves for the outcome.

It's never their fault--it's the vaccinated friend they claim gave it to them; the ER for misdiagnosing; the doctor who wouldn't give ivermectin or gave remdesivir; the nurses who neglected the patient; or it was God's will so nobody had any choices in the matter.

I've had shots before, I've had blood gas done (those do hurt btw) and my first covid shot felt like the technician managed to find a friggen bone in my arm, like it HURT. They probably went way too high on your shoulder. Next time you get a shot tell them to please use C method. That’s when you put two fingers over the top of the shoulder and bring down your thumb to form a C and give them a shot in the middle which should then be exactly in the medial deltoid.

I like stories on HCA with happy endings. The real mark of the beast here is that Walgreens logo. Terrible, terrible company. They (along with cvs and at least one other) recently paid out a shit load of wage theft lawsuits here in California. Once you switch to smaller independent pharmacies, you'll wonder how you ever lived without them. I'm not saying they're all spectacular (I've seen a few really bad ones, that's just how life is) but the majority are excellent.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '22

I was enjoying my small independent pharmacy until Covid. They didn’t have a drive-through, and I was OK with that, but they really failed at communication. Like I had no idea if my prescription was ready, and sometimes one would be ready and one would be like 15 more minutes and I would come in and they wouldn’t tell me that the second one was going to be a minute or that they even had it, they would sell me the one I had and I would get home and then they would call me and tell me I had another one. Completely unacceptable since only three people worked there and they could see each other and me when I came in.

6

u/ACAB_1312_FTP Team Moderna Apr 28 '22

Also the source of the name of the 80s Christian rock band, Stryper, though they spelled it weirdly because it was the Eighties and that's what you did.

Did anyone ever follow up to see if she in fact did turn into a zombie?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 28 '22

I wonder if she means this past December 2021. Almost everyone I know who has had Covid had it in December 2021. One of my friends died last fall, she contracted it before vaccines were available and it gave her congestive heart failure. It took about a year for her to die from it. Everyone else I know who had it got it this past winter.

4

u/PissyKrissy13 Team CoronaVac Apr 28 '22

I'm so sorry about your friend. It hurts even worse that she didn't have an opportunity to protect herself and yet here are all these assholes who refuse to even try to help themselves.

I, too, got sick in between delta and omicron in late December early January. Gave me diabetes type II. I'm lucky that was all and not worse.

I've also heard that most people, who are hospitalized with a bad case and are able to leave, die within a year from the havoc it wreaked on their bodies. Covid19 just weakens them so they cannot fight off anything else that comes along. It's fucked up and these people are counted as survivors of covid19 when they really aren't. Again so sorry for your loss.

A simple question for people like this: why did you think it was the sign of the Beast?

Also, which beast? One of Kevin Wendell Crumb’s personalities? Beauty’s love interest? Rob Zombie? (though technically he was the super beast)

2

u/3rdtimeischarmy Apr 28 '22

My son is propagandized to such an absurd level that he thinks I'll turn into a zombie and when I don't he'll say I'll turn into a zombie sometime in the future.

2

u/vacuous_comment Omicron Persei 8 Apr 28 '22

The sign of the Beast. I won't be getting it.

This statement has underneath it a lot of implicit assertions. Let's examine what this nice lady is assuming as part of this flippant remark:

  • There exists an entity called "God" that has various, often fatally disagreed upon, attributes.
  • These might include creating the universe and acting as a moral arbiter of human behavior.
  • The rules for this moral behavior are encoded in an anthology of mythology from late antiquity called "The Bible".
  • There also exists an entity known as "Satan", again with widely disputed characteristics.
  • These might include administering punishment to humans for immoral behavior in a place outside of space and time called Hell.
  • Satan is also sometimes known as "The Beast", though it is unknown whether he is an instance of some beast entity.
  • In what might be a conflict of interest, Satan also somehow acts to tempt us and bias our actions towards leading to us to being sent to Hell.
  • In the last section of the Bible there is mention of some form of sign called "The Mark of the Beast".
  • This mark is commonly held to be the number 666, though early sources indicate 616.
  • It is not well defined what it means to have the Mark of the Beast upon you, but is is presumed to have significant meaning with regard to the influence of Satan upon you, or something.
  • It is unclear whether writing the number 666 on your forehead with a sharpie actually applies the Mark of the Beast with all it's supernatural implications.
  • Meanwhile, in the mundane world, there is an infectious disease called COVID.
  • We now have several quite effective vaccines approved and available for COVID.
  • It is asserted that this vaccine is somehow the aforementioned Mark of the Beast, or will apply said Mark to people who get the vaccine.

She is fucking batshit nuts in a way that is clearly a danger to herself and to everybody around her.

I am kind of glad she has got vaccinated and such, but I suspect she is still fairly nuts.

2

u/qwetqwetwqwet Apr 29 '22

You can't approach religion with logic. I've tried and failed miserably. I've grown up in a religious environment, and I really wanted to be part of it as a kid. In bible study I've had so many questions, there was always something that didn't fit, there were always contradictions I tried to understand. I questioned, not out of spite, I really wanted to understand. When our pastor got a nervous break down after I've once again presented a list of contradictions after study, called me the son of satan and tried to beat the living s... out of me, I realized at the age of 12 years I'm going to be a heathen for the rest of my life.

2

u/the_way_around Apr 28 '22

What are "God's stripes?" Which God? I'd presume Jesus and that relatively recent shakeup...but she made no mention which path she's taking to the kingdom....

Wait...she did mention Zombies.....so maybe there is a resurrection story here after all.
