Oddly they don’t use this logic when birth control fails, therefore you should never use birth control.

90

u/terrierhead Jul 05 '22

Also, if you’re using birth control that fails, it’s still your fault because you shouldn’t have been having sex.

This is a thing I have heard from multiple people. They were utterly sincere.

I hate it here.

It shouldn't come as a surprise that people from all walks of life can be complete assholes, but this case is interesting. A person who is affected by dwarfism and therefore in a naturally vulnerable minority - health issues, an environment that I would guess presents daily challenges, and the fact that his condition has basically been a comedy punchline until fairly recently - yet still manages to shit on other marginalised people in the most vituperative manner possible.

243

u/missjeanlouise12 Jul 04 '22

It's actually not unusual, in my experience, for the meanest SOBs to be the people who are desperately fighting to stay at least one rung up from the bottom of the ladder. As long as someone is treated and regarded worse than they are, they're satisfied.

158

u/Spicy_Sugary Jul 04 '22

The term downward social comparison applies when people direct their hate at people below them in the social hierarchy.

It's why poor people are more likely to hate immigrants than the rich.

36

u/Fickle_Chance9880 Jul 05 '22

Thank you for giving me the term for that, because there’s a lot of it going around.

55

u/missjeanlouise12 Jul 05 '22

I was just about to thank u/Spicy_Sugary for the same thing.

When my (on the autism spectrum) son was in middle school, it wasn't the kids at the top of the social pecking order who gave him a hard time. It was the kids in his approximate social circle who wanted to just not be at the bottom who would punch down.

21

u/Spicy_Sugary Jul 05 '22

My teen's best friend is a boy with autism. He's part of the same group of geeks and nerds. Some of these kids - who get bullied by a lot of other kids - are trying to bully him out of the group.

24

u/missjeanlouise12 Jul 05 '22

Seriously, if you want to PM me, I'm happy to share anything that helped. I know it's your son's friend and not your son, but maybe it will be worth the conversation? Or even just to vent?

Honestly, my son will be a senior in HS in September and he's doing really well, but even just typing my previous post about how they treated him is upsetting. I'm just now starting to feel like I can take normal breaths* and get on with my day.

Vituperative… such a pretty adjective for such a vile thing. I’m keeping it for further use even if it will take a lifetime figuring out how to pronounce it. (I was well past 30 when I learned that vinegar doesn’t remotely sound like a portemanteau of wine and garage. And past 40 when I learned you guys stress the second syllable in thermometer which doesn’t make any sense at all.)

20

u/onmyknees4anyone Is no joke 🏳️‍🌈 Jul 05 '22

That thing about "thermometer" and the second syllable? I heard a long time ago that English pronunciation goes by certain rules. I think I have figured out a couple of the rules:

  • if a word has 1, 2, or 3 syllables, stress the first syllable.

  • if a word has 4 syllables, stress the 2nd.

VILE.

PRET ty.

SYL la ble.

ther MO me ter.

"Portmanteau" is different because that word is a transplanted French word, so it is dealt with Frenchily. (FRENCH i ly.)

I would like to know what words I'm wrong about. I have been trying to think of them but ... wait. Cash MERE. Is that an English word? Kashmir. Arabic?

17

u/evilJaze This sub is no joke! Jul 05 '22

Proximity to the United States has intertwined our two cultures somewhat. Facebook has also facilitated the spread of the disinformation among the chronically stupid in our population. Grifters up here became excited when they saw what happened in the US Capitol on Jan 6 and figured they could spin their own version here and make serious bank. They wrote up a manifesto to overthrow the government and have their own stupid asses installed instead and set up a GoFundMe. Unsavory foreign and domestic interests contributed a whopping 8 million dollars and the convoy began.

The movement picked up steam as they crossed the country because it resonated with the "common clay" of the land. The imagery of trucks waving Canadian flags drew large rural crowds to cheer them on. The movement picked up supporters among the goobers and anti-Liberals alike as they rolled in to Ottawa.

Many of the revellers that occupied our city over the weeks weren't smart enough to see the true intent of the occupation. They were just there to camp out, enjoy the hot tubs and bouncy castles, profess their disdain for Trudeau (and ironically not conservative premier Ford whose government was responsible for the vast majority of the mandates) and shout "FREEDOM!!1one" randomly.

It's important to stress that it was never about vaccine mandates. It was always about the hard right wanting to violently overthrow our democratically elected government to install an autocratic theocracy.

Vaxxed and boosted here. Just got over covid. Doing just fine as well. Pretty sure it would have been worse if I hadn't been vaxxed and boosted

21

u/digiorno Jul 05 '22

Would’ve been worse.

Got it before vaccines were available and after getting boosted. Felt like I was about to die the first time and I suffered for more than two weeks. With the vaccine it was a headache and mild fever for like two days.

I’m completely sold on boosters. I never want to feel that sick again. Hell I’d get monthly boosters if it let me avoid that, seriously the worst I’ve ever felt in my entire life.

There is a spike. You can’t tell very well, it’s because as one variant wanes, another one takes over. I think we’re in a BA-5 wave now? Currently on day 4 of being grumpy at home with some flavor of covid, but as I’m vaccinated and boosted, it’s not giving me breathing or bp problems. Still not very fun though! Why would anyone want this, let alone worse outcomes? You sure owned this liberal, buddy.

34

u/whitethunder9 Jul 05 '22

Hey, we're COVID twins! Also on day 4 here, also vaxxed and boosted, no mild flulike symptoms. Caught it at a company offsite which apparently was a super-spreader event (about 10% of us have tested positive).

What's "funny" is you can literally trace the origin in our Slack channels. Someone wasn't feeling 100% but supposedly tested negative before attending (as required by our HR), then tested positive right as they were leaving. Then their friends they were with just prior to attending all tested positive. And then all the other voluntary reports came after that.

I just had it too. I thought it was bad allergies. Apparently that’s super common amongst the vaccinated. Because the antibodies are in your blood, it prevents the infection from getting further down into your respiratory tract and can end up like more of a summer cold than something serious. I googled it because I was sneezing something awful and I had no idea sneezing was a symptom until I realized it was if you are vaccinated. Had a few good nights sleep and got over it quickly. The son baked the pizza dough in a microwave for some reason, so it stayed soft. He also added sugar to the crust. There was no cheese because his family didn't eat dairy products, so the pizza was topped with sauce, boiled cabbage and boiled cauliflower.

I went back to eating flatbread.

I just whipped up a cheesecake. While it baked I ran 7 miles on a treadmill. It has to cool for a couple of hours, so my wife and I are going to go for a walk on the beach.

I've been jabbed four times (team Moderna woot!), and though I've got asthma I haven't had any covid trouble at all. I'm a particularly paranoid person: unlike most people around here I still wear a mask at the supermarket etc.

I like to breathe.

It's too bad this guy's delusions killed him and it looks like he'll be missed. I won't miss his votes or the poison he spread (literally and figuratively) though.

Cheesecake and breathing is awesome.

I have asthma as well and though I’ve tried for ages I just don’t have the capacity to run. Is there anything you can share with me that makes it possible for you?

Nice to see you have your priorities in order.

Takes a special kind of uncaring moron to whine about not getting enough attention in a hospital that's struggling through the worst plague in a century. What did you think hospitals would look like with 80,000,000 infected people - 20% of whom need professional medical treatment? It's like whining about traffic during rush hour when you could have used the express lane for free.

Slide 15: "How the fuck am I being an asshole???" Some questions just answer themselves.

30

u/StarSchemaLover Jul 04 '22

This guy’s whole political belief system would never have given him the opportunities that he likely had because other belief systems pushed for people of all capabilities to have rights and access not previously granted to them. How he missed that was the start of a lot of bad political decisions.

Another unfortunate element is that monoclonal antibodies could very well have helped so I’m not sure why an arbitrary weight limit that doesn’t recognize adults can be all sizes prevents him from a life saving treatment. It did not need to come to that but could have helped.

7

u/chinchillazilla54 Jul 04 '22

I can see some logic behind a normal-height person having to be a minimum weight, maybe to ensure you're not malnourished or something and more susceptible to complications? But if he's just small, come on, give it a try.

14

u/lucymx16 Team Mudblood 🩸 Jul 04 '22

I just guessing, but if he went in for treatment with the sparkling personality shown in his social media postings the provider may have used the weight restrictions as a way to "ration care." If I had a limited number of doses & a pleasant person vs this asshole competing for them? I'm using any reason I can find to disqualify the awardee.

u/frx919 💉 Clots & Tears 💦 Jul 04 '22

Both of the vaccination-related deaths he posted appear to be true, which is somewhat refreshing I guess, since it's not an outright lie as they usually do.

Health officials reported that at least six women between the ages of 18 and 48 experienced a rare and severe type of blood clot called a cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) within six to 13 days after receiving their vaccination. As of April 12, more than 7.2 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine had been administered in the U.S., meaning that less than one-in-a-million recipients experienced a CVST — .000083% of those who had received their single-dose vaccine.

The autopsy report lists Evans’ cause of death as “anaphylaxis due to COVID-19 vaccination.”

Evans had a history of medical problems and allergies, including hypertension, environmental allergies, allergic disorder, and reactive airway disease. The autopsy report said Evans had previously experienced previous an anaphylactic reaction to Albuterol, a drug used to treat or prevent bronchospasm in patients with asthma, bronchitis, emphysema, and other lung diseases.

According to the CDC, anaphylaxis after COVID-19 vaccination is extremely rare and has occurred in about five people per 1 million vaccinated in the United States, or .0005% of vaccinations.

42

u/Evadrepus Team Pfizer Jul 04 '22

The woman who died was allergic to so much - pretty sure she shouldn't have been allowed to even take the vaccine in the first place.

30

u/dorkette888 Covid killed me but I got better Jul 04 '22

With that list of comorbidities, she'd have been in trouble if she'd gotten infected, so it depends on the risk of each option and luck.

And it may still have been possible to be vaccinated, even with anaphylaxis to a first dose -- a woman got her second dose in 5 mini doses -- https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/covid19-vaccine-doses-allergic-reaction-1.6246167

When trump was first running for election, he did a very offensive impersonation of a person with disabilities. Looking at this person’s posts and picture, he was struggling with physical limitations. How could he possibly support trump, knowing that trump despised anyone he considered not perfect. Including Ted Cruz’s wife.

Also, trump saved children? The same trump whose daughter had an abortion as a teenager, and the same trump who tried to get his mistress to abort his other daughter?
