Translation: "I got along just fine with the n***** until an upitty one became president."

109

u/Gator717375 Aug 11 '22

Unfortunately, very true. Many Americans tend to (consciously or unconsciously) think of whomever is President as a father figure. Many asshats with racist leanings were pushed over the edge when a Black guy became their proxy Dad. Obama's election was probably the catalyst that birthed the Trump tragedy. Really sad commentary on our society.

63

u/eleanorbigby Aug 11 '22

Says a lot about what kind of fathers they had in order to worship Trump, too, doesn't it? I wish there were more studies about this.

49

u/Cultural-Answer-321 Deadpilled 💀 Aug 11 '22

There are. Thousands of studies and reports show that abusive parents tend to create abusive adults.

And birds of a feather flock together.

36

u/Thunderbird1974 Aug 11 '22

If I was the kind of person who wanted/needed a proxy dad I would be proud to choose Obama. Not so much the disgusting orange blob that is trying to wreck our country. Trump is a poor excuse for a human being and a disgrace to the nation.

Jim Crow never happened. MLK didn’t get killed over his fight for equal rights. There was never a colored bathrooms or water fountains. Rosa Park didn’t get arrested for refusing to give her seat up to a white person. There was never any segregation in this country or violence due to jealous racist not liking black people having the same rights as whites. Slavery never happened either. All this did not happened until Obama. Jim Crow happened under Obamas presidency. Trump ended all that!

Possibly even worse is that they acknowledge all that DID happen, but think it all stopped the moment the ink was put on the civil rights act.

Here i fixed it: We almost stopped being racist openly, but saw a black man in power. So we became openly racist again.

46

u/Snatch_Pastry Aug 11 '22

Here's what's weird. I'm a white guy in a deep red area, and so other white people make assumptions. I get to hear a lot of opinions that people think I probably agree with. And what struck me while Obama was president was that people said a lot less racist shit. They'd really throw it at the president and first lady, of course, but they started to become a lot less comfortable just airing out their general racist bullshit. Society was really starting to push back on overt racism, and even the real shitheads were being affected by that.

But there was a sea change when trump was nominated and they got to hear him spewing his bigotry. Holy shit, the fucking dam was broke. Trump enabling the white supremacists, the slack-jawed yokels, the southern evangelists, and all the rest easily set this country back 30+ years in how overt people are in casual racism.

5

u/rusalkamaya Aug 12 '22

I'm not american but I think that kinda backlash(?) phenomenon accompanies most forms of social progress. When the syrian war started and people openly welcomed refugees at train stations in Germany I've noticed that I heard more and more people complain about how "you can't say anything anymore" or "you gotta be careful what you say", so people complained about feeling like they can't be openly xenophobic with this change in public attitude - while at the same time the people helping refugees were actively mocked and the word "Gutmensch" (could be translated as SJW) became the slur du jour...

32

u/Sir_Vectis Aug 11 '22

It's because they have no Black, Asian or Hispanic friends and "racism" is only a vague concept or trigger word.

Conservatives love making arguments like this. “The liberals hating trump so much is what made us all so radical.” “Obama caused us to be racist by being president”. On the one hand, it demonstrates they know they are batshit. On the other hand, even that they wanna blame on the out group.

4

u/sorryIhaveDiarrhea Aug 12 '22

It most definitely wasn't almost dead but I get what you're saying. It wasn't an overt behavior for the most part and even today racism is often very subtle. My fam emigrated to the States from Brasil when I was 4 and even tho I have lighter skin, it's obvious I'm part afro. There were times when I didn't even realize I was talked down to until much later. lol

Racists often only go full-on xenophobic their victim isn't fluent in Eng. My husband is from southern Thailand so he looks Indian and is dark brown. After he was done with college we moved to Thailand but I'll never forget the look on their faces once they realized he has broken English. It's like a kid opening Christmas presents. They are also very creative with name callings too. It always confuses them when they learned he's Thai but obviously can't do the usually stereo typical Asian face jokes.

u/thoroughbredca Team Mix & Match Aug 12 '22

By the time you're showing symptoms for rabies, it's too late you're already dead. The only way to survive it is if you get vaccinated for it before you show symptoms.

And as far as I know, we don't even have a test for rabies. So it's so deadly that it can hide from us until the moment we're dead. But yeah, deadly diseases never bide their time.

In 2020 there were 168.3 million registered voters.
More than 158 million voters participated in 2020 election.

Joe Biden got 81 million votes and 306 electoral votes;
D. Trump got 74 million votes and 232 electoral votes.

Trump lost. Biden won.

10

Welcome to the less shitty side* because many old-school Democrats also obey the will of their corporate sponsors and don't put their money where their mouth is to actually fight for affordable housing, healthcare, student debt and civil rights.

And despite that disillusionment I vote D because some of them are trying and occasionally succeeding in making people's lives safer and happier. The vast majority of modern Republicans don't offer any viable platform based on real precedent or evidence to fix society's problems. It generally boils down to (1) Say No to everything Democrats ask for, and (2) Invent new imaginary problems and enemies to harass in their weekly propaganda festivals so they can keep mooching off our taxes.

The Silent Majority is real; it's just not what they claim it is. The real silent majority is the fact that social and liberal policies are popular by the vast majority of Americans. Just look at what happened in deep red Kansas when they voted on abortion rights.

The silent majority is progressive, just a good amount of them have been brainwashed into tribalism and cannot see how their vote goes against their own beliefs.

Shit like gerrymandering and voter suppression plays a big part in silencing that particular majority.

Can someone explain the orange kool-aid snorting logic here? Because to me, it seems like America elected its first Black President, and as a result, these fucking looney tunes were terrified that White people won't own every single post of privilege in perpetuity.

So, are they claiming that being Black is Obama's fault or did they just miss the "logic" part of this argument?

From what I’ve read about the civil war, the majority of enlisted confederate soldiers were not slave owners. So why go to war for something that doesn’t benefit you? Well what if you are bottom of the barrel socially, economically, and intellectually? Hey, with slaves at least you are not COMPLETELY bottom of the barrel. The institution protects that. Also Plessy v. Ferguson perpetuated that until the Civil Rights act of 1964. Now imagine all that racist heritage passed from generation to generation and all of a sudden the most powerful man in the world is a black man? Everything in his racist ass, shit for brains, mind must have exploded to think that a black man was ACTUALLY more powerful than him.

He paid a price but, to the end, believed it was worth it because he loved America and mourned what it has become under the Socialist Demonrats. He made the Ultimate Sacrifice for Trump, for God, for Country, and Freedom. Please know that he always tried to make things better for loyal, Christian conservatives like yourself, and kindly donate to honor what he did to protect All of us. In Jesus's name, AMEN."

Slide 2 is actually almost spot-on. The moment Obama was elected, millions of people all over this country silently swore we'd never have another nigra president again. All Barack Obama had to do to resurrect the pandemic of racism was be.

Slide 3: There were 168 million registered voters.

Slide 6: Don't get me started....nobody has that much time.
