The GOP has weaponized religion, but among other things, demonizing (literally) government in general and liberals specifically. A vote against democrats was a vote for jesus.

Religion, where even dumbasses, psychopaths, predators, grifters, pedophiles, criminals, con-artists, rapists, and the devil himself, can all thrive and be loved by Jesus.

Not the Democrats though.

I don‘t think it would have made a difference to him. Just look at how the Trump fanclub cries about him being persecuted.

They don‘t care about the law - as long as it is their candidate/party that is breaking it.

Sadly, I don‘t think much will come of this. At most, it will be a slap on the wrist. Many governments have gotten away with a lot worse. So I don‘t expect this to be any different.

One takeaway from Covid is that we now have a wide and extensive knowledge of just how stupid and unpleasant Christianity in the USA actually is.

15

u/NeosDemocritus Aug 12 '22

And how pervasive an influence the insidious poison of Christian Nationalism has become. They don’t believe in Constitutional government, that’s obvious. They pine for a theocracy (which will also sanction their hierarchical racism and intrusion into everyone’s bedrooms), and they will employ every corrupt and Machiavellian subterfuge to achieve their goal politically. They are a cult that has gripped at least a third of the country, and are thus the greatest threat to the Republic since the Civil War. I’m not optimistic as to the outcome here….this has become a religious war (between the Christian Taliban and the Keepers of Common Sense), and history only promises blood and sorrow when nations fall into that rabbit hole.

I found it suspicious also. I did find this https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-campaign-donates-meals-coronavirus however.

Even if it were true, how could it be done anonymously given campaigns have to be tracked on how they spend money? Even if they did it regardless, they are just using money given to them by supporters, not their own personal funds. And why anonymously? How would that benefit a campaign?

29

u/Jojosbees Aug 12 '22

“Anonymously.”

The Trump campaign likely leaked it for good press.

I'll admit, that one got me a little sad. I had a good friend pass during the pandemic, not from Covid. His illness did mean he was in a weakened immune state, so visitors were strictly limited to keep him from getting Covid.

It all made sense. It still does. I know it was the right call.

But I still wish I'd seen him.

11

u/your_mind_aches Team Sinopharm Aug 12 '22

Last year I had a Covid scare and there weren't rapid response tests on shelves yet. And my case was seen as somewhat lower priority (possibly due to my age, 23) because it took two weeks for my region's public healthcare system to get back with my results. And this was BEFORE vaccines in my country mind you.

Within that time, my great aunt who was 99 died in the hospital after a big stroke. She was like a grandmother to me. I loved her dearly but I couldn't go see her or go to her funeral (which had like 10 people). It still makes me emotional because she deserved a funeral with hundreds. She was so generous and had so many people who loved her.

And I was just stuck in my room quarantining. Test came back negative anyway so I felt "what's the point, I wish I could've gone".

Turns out, I had Stage IV metastatic renal cancer, and that was what was causing my shortness of breath, body aches, and upset stomach. My tumour was literally so big it was pushing against my lungs.

So probably for the best I didn't go.

This happens almost every time. She has two choices.

One, she can accept the truth that her father was killed by his own beliefs.

Or two, she can deny the truth and just say that it was his time.

One is a harsh reality that feels disrespectful to her father, and herself, as in all likelihood, she shares his beliefs. The other is a comforting fantasy, where her father is a good and intelligent man, who believed correctly, and just got very unlucky.

Over and over, people either choose the fantasy or double down on their evil beliefs. That way they never have to face the truth or accept any responsibility for their evil beliefs and actions. They never have to think about what they've done. They never have to question themselves.

Do they do it consciously or subconsciously? Honestly I don't give a shit, since it amounts to the same horrible result. If you don't ever challenge your biases, then you're just going to end up being a bad person.

Slide 4 got me thinking. I know I don't have any right to be surprised, but I've always been amazed by the Trumpers ability to throw events down the memory hole.

On Feb 28, 2020 Trump gave a speech in which he called cornavirus a hoax. That same day the first American died of Covid. Later it would be known that there were earlier deaths, but think about that. As his people lay dying, the president told people the virus killing them wasn't real.

Less than a month later, this idiot and others like him claimed the media was hiding the virus for 4-5 months, despite the fact that the media had been reporting on the unknown respiratory illness in China since late last year. It just boggles my mind that people can be so willfully ignorant. I mean, people watch movies and call out plot holes all the time, but they can't see the plot holes in reality?

I wish all of the anti vaxxers and religious fruitcakes would go hug and kiss covid positive people, especially when they need supplemental oxygen. This is the only way that the baby jesus can reach them. Make sure to eat their boogers so you may remove the devil from their troubled bodies.

Yeah, and then stay out of the hospitals since they all claim the protocol kills, not covid.

It’s a weird saying I’ve heard in the south

12

u/BethMD Team Pfizer Aug 12 '22

You just shed light on something for me. In the novel Six of One, Rita Mae Brown, a southerner, writes in a scene where one woman is dying of lung cancer and sees her female lover, who had died some years before, waving to her from the top of a hill. The souls unite and Brown describes the dying woman hugging the already-dead woman's neck. Rita Mae Brown is a great writer, so I just thought it was her gifted way of describing things, not an actual Southern thing. But it all makes sense now.

I can picture trumps Churchills moment now: The audience is silent as he approaches the podium, nervous anticipation so thick you can cut it with a knife. He pauses for dramatic effect, looking around at his peers. Hundreds of lawmakers ready to hang on his every word. It's a national tragedy and the world is looking to him for reassurance. For how the county will survive. Will move forward.

After a long beat he leans in. "I plead the fifth." The room breaks out in applause! Confetti rains down over him as he looks around and nods proudly.
