“Some SOB is making my heath decisions”….

“I’m hearing you say you don’t want to deal with insurance”

“They do not have a respiratory therapist”.

“Trying to get in to the doctors and get testing done has been quite an experience”.

Why do I get the sense that this guy was as curmudgeonly with the hospital staff as he was to his Facebook audience when doling out his conspiracy theories?

193

u/Crabby_Monkey Aug 15 '22

Gee wouldn’t it be nice if healthcare was built so that you could go to any doctor you wanted to, and get the treatment your doctor decided you needed without fighting an insurance company or having some SOB make your health decisions?

If only someone could figure it out.

Same energy as the people who have gone to prison for Jan 6 complaining about prison conditions. Every time something bad happens to a conservative they suddenly want a policy that progressives have been calling for for decades.

95

u/TheRealPitabred Aug 15 '22

Having any sort of empathy makes you less likely to be a conservative in the first place. They literally don't care until it happens to them.

I had to delete like half the slides about his stay in the hospital and rehab, and dealing with his insurance company.

I have to say, though, he spent a bunch of posts complaining about the food in the rehab, and yeah, if they served me the food he was posting pictures of, I would have gone more ballistic than he did.

29

For anyone who is not familiar with Pulmonary Fibrosis: It is a terminal illness. There is no cure and it is going to kill you. Average "survival" is 3-5 years, but a lot of people dont see that much by the time they receive a diagnosis. Your lungs just harden and scar over until you literally suffocate to death. Its a terrible way to go out. Avoid by any means necessary.

She just left for a cruise, where she doesn't need her oxygen. She can breathe at sea level. She and her boyfriend do these every so often while they still can, and they're good for her lungs. I just hope she doesn't catch covid.

This guy is a really prolific poster, posts multiple times per day for years, and it was hard to get it down to 20 slides. He hardly even slowed down while he was in the hospital. I deleted a ton of posts about Biden (he clearly hates Biden with a special passion), and stuff that was generally racist and misogynistic. All of his trips to Facebook jail appeared to be about threatening violence against various people in the news.

He also appears to not have any family he’s close to. I had to drop a series of slides where when he got out of rehab, he took a taxi to his car, got a jump start from hospital security, and drove himself to his motorhome, which was also broken down from lack of use.

Yeah, you no longer have covid but uhh....

Is pulmonary fibrosis always fatal?

Yes, healthcare providers typically consider pulmonary fibrosis a terminal illness. Pulmonary fibrosis is a progressive disease (gets worse over time). There is no cure, and it eventually leads to death.

72

u/Tiddles_Ultradoom You Will Respect My Immunitah! Aug 15 '22 edited Aug 15 '22

"There is no cure, and it eventually leads to death" is a very polite way of describing a truly awful decline. As he also has a separate diagnosis of ILD, that's not a good place to be. He might get some slowing of symptoms with good respiratory rehab and maybe Pirfenidone or even Nintedanib (if he or his insurers are willing to stump up the $94,000 per year for treatment), or get a lung transplant.

Regardless, this is a brutal diagnosis; gasping for air, paroxysmal cough, extreme clubbing of fingers and toes to the point where you couldn't close your fingers around a thing even if you had the strength to grab something. I know two guys who died of this in the last ten years; a neighbour and an inlaw. They had one thing in common; they both wanted to die rather than continue to suffer.

47

u/misscrankypants Aug 15 '22

This asshole better not get a new set of lungs. There are way better deserving humans out there.

37

u/Tiddles_Ultradoom You Will Respect My Immunitah! Aug 15 '22

I would be surprised if he did. Freshly squeezed lungs are in short supply ATM. And unless he’s changed his tune in vaccines, he is effectively self-sorting himself out of the transplant list.

Pulmonary Fibrosis is a death sentence. His best case scenario is a few years, but that's being generous. I feel super owned right now though, so I guess it was all worth it. Next time, just dont get a horrific virus in a country with shitty but overly- expensive access to healthcare, duh.

14

u/A-man-of-mystery Covidious Albion Aug 15 '22

Slide 12: This kind of formalised risk assessment has much better outcomes than just winging it, because problems are anticipated and dealt with early. So of course he's against it.

18

u/cofclabman Aug 15 '22

It kills me. Someone is making health decisions for me. You mean, like your doctor? Isn’t that why you went to the hospital in the first place?

4

u/Perigee-Apogee Get the Jabby-Jabby Aug 15 '22

Slide #12 is hard to see clearly, and I'm no expert, but to me it didn't look like it represented any actual decisions, but it was more like a handy printout showing an evaluation of his current status along a few key parameters and what he could expect his current and future needs were likely to be (post-discharge care etc.) based on the experiences of other patients with similar status. The part he marked in red merely states that based on data from other similar patients, there was a high likelihood that he would be admitted to a hospital within 30 days. It also says that patients similar to him typically have spent about 12 days in the skilled nursing facility, so should give him some ballpark figure for how long he can reasonably expect his stay to last. This paper does not represent that anyone is "deciding" anything.

13

u/Fit_Relationship1094 Aug 15 '22

I found that very interesting. A good communication tool for the patient to see the basis for choices made by his healthcare team. Unfortunately though we also know that oxygen depletion impacts critical thinking ability which is probably (one of the reasons 😉) why he was unable to see the logic behind the chart.

Slide 5 is a special kind of ugly with its implications: "Arrest all the Black poll workers for rigging the election!" 🙄

34

u/DTesedale Aug 15 '22

Pretty sure poll workers aren't allowed to wear clothes/masks/pins/hats supporting a candidate. Some states don't allow voters to wear political clothing if they want to vote. So was that a picture of people who aren't poll workers, or was the picture photoshopped?

Slides 4 and 18 tell you everything you need to know about this guy. Slide 19: u/babyharpsealface is right; AFAIK the only cure for pulmonary fibrosis is a lung transplant. And if he isn't vaxxed there's no way they're going to give healthy lungs to him.

Slide 10: Oh, I'm praying, all right.

14

u/babyharpsealface Team Bivalent Booster Aug 15 '22

Yeah, this guy is not going to be alive very long. Even if he DID get accepted to a transplant list (he won't), the chances of him staying alive long enough to receive them are lower than him suddenly becoming a Biden Bro. And then even if he did get a lung transplant, that's just another tiny bit of borrowed time. Unvaxxed + heavy doses of immunosuppressants? Thats just a massive waste of time, money, medical attention, and pair of lungs that could have gone to someone that actually deserved them.

Good lord, if that's down 44 lbs he must have been spherical when he went it. Also, he notes no treatment for the pulmonary fibrosis - only something to slow the progression - yet in the same post he says "when I get better".

Uhhhh... that's not the way it works.

Also, nebulizers aerosolize liquids. As if we want him spreading his covid far and wide in the hospital - that's what tfg rallies are for, I thought.

🎰 PULMONARY FIBROSIS AND INTERSTITIAL LUNG DISEASE!

Losing 44 pounds in 28 days is not a healthy rate of weight loss, btw - don't try for those results on your own.

It's good that he's going to the gym, and I do hope his lungs will get better. Maybe he'll even connect the dots and start advocating for vaccination. Maybe his ordeal has convinced some of his friends to get vaccinated, already.
