Freedoms come and go, actually, but (most) viruses are forever.

I don’t know where they got the idea that it’s the other way around. I guess they just made it up wishful thinking–style.

Somebody clearly knows their target audience well. Stick a flag and the word freedom on it and these people will believe almost anything.

23

u/Goya_Oh_Boya Aug 16 '22

Freedom is so arbitrary too. And viruses don't give a fuck about freedom.

17

u/TheyWerTheLordsChips Aug 17 '22

Yeah, that first slide:

Loss of Freedom is forever

What a false, tired old trope, forwarded by people who don't know history. Places in the US have had curfews that have come and gone...security restrictions, and martial law that has come and gone too. It's happened during times of war, natural disaster, previous pandemics, and economic crisis since the founding of the nation.

These anti-vax chuckleheads were adolescent minds trapped in, now dead, adult bodies.

3

u/Such-Wrongdoer-2198 Aug 17 '22

Yeah, but Lincoln suspended habeas corpus and the gold standard. That is why Lincoln is known as the great demancipator. Because he took away all our freedom.

u/Stunticonsfan GoFundHisPoorDecision 👎🥴 Aug 16 '22

Loss of freedom is forever? Did these people never hear of anyone who gained or regained their freedom after slavery or imprisonment?

Rhetorical question, of course. They don't think about the memes they repost. They don't think, period.

Legal murder is what happens to prayer warriors when the virus defeats them.

50

u/Spirited_Community25 Aug 16 '22

It means they used Remdesivir. It has a 50% (maybe higher) success rate. It's given as a last resort. For those that it saves this is a good thing. Others consider it a bad thing. The catch is without it there is probably 100% chance of death.

The ones that scream 'hospital protocols killed my loved one' should just shut the hell up. They made choices that put their loved ones in that situation. I love the one who wouldn't let them ventilate her husband so the hospital couldn't make more money. Again, some make it off the ventilator. 100% who are not ventilated die. Of course maybe she didn't want a spouse with long covid recovery.

24

u/Fiz_Giggity Team Bivalent Booster Aug 16 '22

Oh! Didn't know that. My husband had remdisavir when he was in the hosptial. He was diagnosed the same day it was approved and I was grateful there was something to treat it with.

He was home in 9 days, so guess I'm not getting in on that lawsuit.

And that long covid recovery is a bitch, he's coming up on two years and still isn't completely better. He got a new DVT recently ffs.

7

u/Spirited_Community25 Aug 16 '22

Lots of conflicting information. It seems to help some and do little for others (found death rate of 7%, zero help 7%). Glad it helped with your husband. It seems the earlier people are started the more it helps. Unvaccinated people tend to stay out of the hospital longer. When they're very bad they throw a lot of things at it. I suppose it's better than doing nothing.

4

u/daneelthesane Aug 16 '22

found death rate of 7%, zero help 7%

Am I understanding you correctly?

7% die

7% there is no effect

So 86% it helps?

5

u/Spirited_Community25 Aug 16 '22

Not really sure. Some other reports show different numbers. The problem is that treatment isn't a single drug so trials aren't simple to decide results.

5

u/daneelthesane Aug 16 '22

That is understandable. Statistical analysis with that many variables is a bitch and a half. Still, as preliminary numbers go, it seems way better than nothing.

3

u/Spirited_Community25 Aug 16 '22

I used to do DOE (design of experiments) in past jobs. I can't imagine how you would verify efficacy. You start with patients who have different underlying conditions, different levels of disease, various treatments. I ran into other studies that said it didn't work but pointed towards other treatments. Who knows, but I seriously think doctors are not trying to kill the patients.

11

u/SporesM0ldsandFungus Aug 16 '22

They also seem to think ventilators, associated drugs, room, nurses, and doctors are all free and the line item on their bill for them goes straight into the hospital's Scrooge McDuck style Money Bin

4

u/Spirited_Community25 Aug 16 '22

Well, she did mention insurance paying so unless the insurance didn't cover the ventilator they would have been paid.

7

u/dumdodo Aug 17 '22

Effectiveness of Remdesivir varies enormously depending on the patient's risk, when it is started and the condition of the patient when they start it.

One study I read from Egypt showed that it reduced hospital stays by an average of 10 days. 8 of 100 required mechanical ventilation, while 11 out of 100 who didn't get Remdesivir required ventilation.

Most studies I've seen have shown modest but statistically significant results. It does help some people, but it's not a cure-all, and many get hospitalized and get the drug too late for it to have any effect.

11

u/meco03211 Aug 16 '22

Saw a bunch of idiots celebrating the change in CDC guidelines. Their natural immunity is better than the vaccine was sickening.

I have one who thinks this change in guidelines is the CDC admitting this is how it should have always been. As in guidelines being the same for vaxxed and unvaxxed now, is the CDC quietly admitting there never should have been any difference. Add on then admitting the vaccine didn't do anything.

They flat out just don't understand how time works and how changing circumstances call for different guidelines.

2

u/tonykahnscokedealer Aug 16 '22 edited Aug 17 '22

Any change is seen as an admission of a lie. What really gets me is when it's coming from an otherwise intelligent person.

u/Monterey-Jack Aug 16 '22

Idiots shouldn't be allowed on the internet.

5

Someone on a thread a while back wanted to sneak in and put some silver into the ventilator.

It's best not to ask.

17

u/Libflake Aug 16 '22

I don't know whether to laugh or cry whenever I see a slide like the first one, in which the poster describes a Thanksgiving dinner that was apparently a covid-spreading event, and then urges people to "be safe" during their holiday gatherings because "it could be your last time" to see the attendees.

If you had just emerged from a coma and were reading posts like these, you'd conclude that getting covid and probably dying from it was inevitable, with no ways at all of preventing it or reducing one's risk. These posters live in a world in which mask-wearing is mocked, social distancing is ignored, and vaccines are non-existent. It really is bizarre.

6

u/Repulsive-Street-307 Aug 16 '22

There is really nothing bizarre about a death cult latching into death. If you ever lived with old people - sane old people - and watched their ambivalent reaction to their death, and lives of pain, you realize it's nothing special for a death cult to be completely indifferent to major risks of death if there is something that they're getting out of it - in this case, social validation, in those older people the hope of a end of pain without actual suicide (a sin, also scary).

71

u/Effective_Tiger_1485 Aug 16 '22

A very sad compilation. God rest these poor people.

The lady in number 7 - she's a nasty piece of work. I honestly think that anyone who immediately suspects that the medical staff have murdered their husband for money would have to be a complete fraud themselves to ever think of such a thing. And coming right after her long sweet post about how we all have to support each other and not drag each other down. A dangerous woman.

38

u/AlienRosie Aug 16 '22

That glaringly stood out. She wouldn't let the doctors help her 75 year old husband with underlying health conditions, but they're the ones who killed him. I'm guessing she realized it was her fault and can't deal with the guilt so she's typically blaming others.

11

u/ganonpig HCA Historian Aug 16 '22 Helpful

I posted the first part 8 months ago. It still holds up so here's what I wrote then:

Last week I featured a collection of pink pie charts. Like that meme this one is light on details. Loss of freedom? That's not being vague at all! I tried to include some more examples of exactly which freedoms people thought they were going to lose. Most of them bordered on conspiracy rot or were just as vague as this meme.

/#2 thought concentration camps were a reasonable prediction. #3 believed a Chinese style social credit score wasn't far off. #6 went straight to genocide and human experimentation. #11 alluded to some vague notion of tyranny. #13 went to the old chestnut of "everything I don't like is communism". #14's takeaway was population control. #17 feared the loss of freedom to not have Satan in their body. And #18 thought that your employer mandating that you get vaccinated meant that you no longer owned your own body.

Furthermore, the idea that viruses come and go doesn't hold much water considering a lot of viruses are endemic. Meaning you have to learn to live with them always being around. Like the various strains of flu virus.

And by never establishing which freedoms they're even talking about it leaves the door open for many nebulous interpretations. (Which can then be used and exploited by pundits to drum up votes.) The government actually has a duty to impose limits and restrictions temporarily if public safety is in danger.

This fear that any freedom you temporarily give up will never come back doesn't seem to be based on much. Considering many governments were quick to lift restrictions way too early for the sake of the economy, causing more outbreaks, which inevitably led to the need for more and longer restrictions.

In an ironic twist the people fighting tooth and nail against vaccines and any sensible measure to curb the spread of the virus are prolonging the restrictions and limits they so vehemently hate. Irony is a dead scene.

8

u/Perigee-Apogee Get the Jabby-Jabby Aug 16 '22

This fear that any freedom you temporarily give up will never come back doesn't seem to be based on much

I think it's based on the Star Wars movies. Emperor Palpatine takes over control of the Republic, claiming it's only temporary. But he never relinquishes control afterwards.

6

u/GnarlyNarwhalNoms Aug 16 '22

To be fair, "some dickhead declaring a temporary state of emergency and using it to become ruler for life" is something that's happened many times IRL.

That being said, public health measures have absolutely nothing in common with that scenario, and our previous President is the one who openly admired power-grabbing authoritarian strongmen.

1

u/eleanorbigby Aug 17 '22

These are also the same people who believe that Trump should be (or is) still President, and would jump up and down with excitement at martial law, as long as the people being rounded up and executed are people they don't like (Hollywood celebrities, Democratic politicians, Fauci, gay and trans people, Black people, Democrats in general, their neighbor with the barking dog...)

2

u/RattusMcRatface I GET CLOSTERPHOBIA Aug 16 '22

the idea that viruses come and go doesn't hold much water

No, obviously, but for the ones that think it's all a media-generated hoax or scam that will eventually be found out, "come and go" makes sense. They're already saying the same stuff about monkey-pox.

Of course actually catching Covid then comes as a shock.

idk I've read a history book or two, freedom tends to come and go pretty often.

4

u/PopeOfManwichVillage Tickle Me ECMO Aug 16 '22

These clowns never disappoint. Except when they actually recover I guess…

5

u/le_wein Aug 16 '22

So prayer warriors are useless, what are they saying about their failures? Do they even think for a second that maybe the prayers are not working because maybe god doesn’t not exist and everything is just a made up horror fantasy?

1

u/dumdodo Aug 17 '22

Or maybe it's simply that God grants free will and lets humans live with the consequences of their individual and collective actions.

I think that's in the Bible, but ignored a lot.

1

u/le_wein Aug 17 '22

how about no, so he creates cancer and let kids die of it, nice loving god we have here.

4

u/No-North6514 Aug 16 '22

Covid took out a lot of trash with this group. These idiots think that when a loved one dies Jesus healed them (in heaven... or whatever small planet Joseph Smith promised them) so of course they'll believe nonsense even stupider than that

u/vsandrei 🐆 🐿️🐆 🐿️🐆 🐿️🐆 🐿️🐆 🐿️🐆 🐿️🐆 🐿️🐆 🐿️🐆 🐿️🐆 🐿️ Aug 16 '22

or whatever small planet Joseph Smith promised them

You do realize that the fundamentalist Christians absolutely despise Mormons, don't you?

4

u/No-North6514 Aug 16 '22

I was lumping Christians and Mormons together in that statement. And I'm aware of how fundamentalist Christians feel about Mormons - although they did vote for Mitt over Obama to give you an idea how much racism means to them

6

u/PoliticalECMOChamber Super Shedder Aug 16 '22

Yup, they cherish their shared bigotry above all else. And once all those pesky gays and brown folk are properly dealt with, they'll train their sights back on the mormons and catholics, again.

3

u/mmio60 Aug 16 '22

They didn’t turn out for Romney. Probably wouldn’t have made a difference, but they consider LDS a cult: irony alert.

3

u/PoliticalECMOChamber Super Shedder Aug 16 '22

But not when they're trying to pass laws to put teh gheys back in the closet.

5

u/Cultural-Answer-321 Deadpilled 💀 Aug 16 '22

Fails to take precautions, looses freedom just like predicted. Only permanently.

They is be geniuses!

6

u/Goose_o7 I am The TOOTH FAIRY! Aug 16 '22

Slide 6's creator has a SERIOUS "PRIBKEN". "Pray for NE!"

Is he asking the Knights who say NE! for help? Are they the sacred holders of "The Serious PRIBKEN" ???

I guess we will never know since this one's DEAD!

6

u/Tricky-Sympathy Go Give One Aug 16 '22

When did this stupid fucking "prayer warriors" thing start?

2

u/Haskap_2010 ✨ A twinkle in a Chinese bat's eye ✨ Aug 16 '22

Apparently it predates the pandemic.

2

u/Jim_Macdonald Bet you won't share! Aug 16 '22

When did this stupid fucking "prayer warriors" thing start?

Mid-eighties.

1

u/bErinGPleNty Because Other People Matter Too Aug 16 '22

It's a long-time practice among conservative Protestants. I suspect it developed as a ministry for elderly and infirm parishioners to have a role in the church when they couldn't do other more active work. (Just a guess.)

1

u/Goose_o7 I am The TOOTH FAIRY! Aug 16 '22

It's a long-time practice among conservative Protestants.

It took the COVID pandemic to elevate the practice to such a high profile, as to clearly demonstrate how utterly useless this modern form of Witch Doctoring actually is.

It turns an already tragic and pathetic situation into a Self Ownage Parade of epic proportions.

3

u/oddiseeus Aug 16 '22

Propaganda is a helluva drug. Do bad it doesn’t protect anyone from potentially deadly viruses.

3

u/MirukuChu Aug 16 '22

Pretty upsetting that these people will claim that COVID protocols "murdered" their family, but I sincerely doubt that they gave a single damn when it came to following precautions to keep other people safe.

2

u/Goose_o7 I am The TOOTH FAIRY! Aug 16 '22

Of course not! These bottom feeders are incapable of compassion or empathy for anyone outside of their tiny brain washed echo chambers. They talk a good line about their Christian beliefs, yet fail to actually manifest even a tiny modicum of Christ's teachings in real life.

I like to call them FAKE FAN CHRISTIANS.

Taken from a ComicCon description of a FAKE FAN of any given movie franchise or Science Fiction IP. Fake Fans like to pretend they are a super fan of a particular IP, but when pressed can provide no evidence that would indicate that they know JACK about the topic. Leave alone being a super fan of same.

4

u/stephruvy Aug 16 '22

PRIBKEM!

2

u/mmio60 Aug 16 '22

Let that sink in

3

u/Peetipablo Aug 16 '22

The biggest oxymoron I have ever heard is “prayer warrior” lmao

3

u/King_Fluffaluff Aug 16 '22

The bald eagle is now an angel of death and the freedom bell tolls the dead.

3

u/bErinGPleNty Because Other People Matter Too Aug 16 '22

It's surprisingly (for such a bunch of independent-minded patriots) the same story from one to another, but I wonder how far it will go now that the vaccine didn't turn out to be microchips, toxic, unapproved, miscarriage-inducing, etc. I expect to start hearing from trump and gang that the real conspiracy was to spread fears about the vaccine so conservatives wouldn't get vaccinated, then when they got severely ill, to make money for the health care system treating them expensively but futilely, then ultimately murdering them by not using ivermectin, essential oils, hydroxychloroquine, and Jack's secret sauce for a secret government death payment.

3

u/Salty_Gorl Aug 16 '22

How the hell are people like #3 able to post these long updates "moments" after the passing of a loved one?? I've lost loved ones before and the last thing I would want to do right after I found out they'd passed is write a FB status update

5

u/existinshadow Aug 16 '22

What if the anti-vaxxer are trying to say that “Death is the ultimate freedom” ?

No happiness, but also no more pain. No more struggle. No more existence.

It’s kinda deep, in a red neck sort of way

2

u/TheMost_ut Team Mix & Match Aug 16 '22

I have a pribkem with their attitudes....

2

u/UnderYourBed69 Aug 16 '22

I mean technically freedom also comes and goes.

2

u/Ms_Starscream Aug 16 '22

Is "prayer warriors" a thing they've been saying since forever or is it new? So many people say it and for some reason I need to know if it's a covid thing or older.

2

u/Jim_Macdonald Bet you won't share! Aug 16 '22

Is "prayer warriors" a thing they've been saying since forever or is it new?

It's comparatively recent. Mid-eighties, USA, but blew up in the early 2010s.

2

u/Objective_Return8125 Aug 16 '22

To die of covid after the vaccine is just the dumbest thing ever

2

u/Jim_Macdonald Bet you won't share! Aug 16 '22

Slide 1: So, did this fellow also post one of those, "NO, Dr. Fauci, I don't need your permission to have Thanksgiving!" memes?

1

u/ganonpig HCA Historian Aug 16 '22

A man of many memes, he posted the one about Fauci belonging in prison, "this is what the next lockdown should look like". I will be doing a part two of that comp as well because the first one wasn't very well put together.

2

u/dumdodo Aug 17 '22

Poor Dr. Fauci. He never stopped anyone from having a Thanksgiving to die for; the guy has always been an advisor and never created laws.

Yet so many of these people want him jailed or even killed (with Christian love, of course).

2

u/Jim_Macdonald Bet you won't share! Aug 16 '22

Slide 10: Younger than me.

2

u/LizardPossum Aug 16 '22

She WOULDNT ALLOW HER HUSBAND TO HAVE A VENTILATOR WHAT THE FUCK

2

u/mmio60 Aug 16 '22

And the beat goes on

2

u/ZealousidealGrass9 Aug 16 '22

Guess they lost their freedoms forever.

2

u/MNGirlinKY Aug 16 '22

Why do so many of these people think that the hospitals get money if people die from Covid?

2

u/Apprehensive_Pug6844 Aug 16 '22

Gee, it’s not like you haven’t been told/warned/advised…. Giant OH WELL.

2

u/MichiganMitch108 Aug 17 '22

While we never will know , I’m curious how much longer these people would have lived had they not caught the virus or taken the vaccine.

2

u/tpobs Aug 17 '22

The thing is, I'm not gonna post an obituary of my family on bloody Facebook. How online these people are???

2

u/NocuousGreen Aug 17 '22

Yeah "be careful during your big gatherings as it could be the last time you see them" because you tried your best to kill them...

2

u/DrypDry Aug 17 '22

"A 75 year old man with underlying conditions" but yes let's blame the hospital..

2

u/dumdodo Aug 18 '22

Walking with a walker, and just barely being able to walk with one, is a loss of freedom to me.

That's my cousin, 6 months after an ICU case. She caught it pre-vaccine.

2

u/Silver-Patience6033 Aug 21 '22

To lose your freedom forever from a virus that you could have been protected from. Now that’s stupid. Some still die, but your chances are a bit better with vaccines and masks and avoiding a helluva large family gathering. Freedom to suffer and die. Sorry I prefer life. No sympathy from me.

u/Lesyeuxdenini30 Aug 16 '22

That version of the flag came and went

1

u/PrestigiousGrade7874 In God and ivermectin we trust Aug 16 '22

So the Russian bot farm sent out the flag version of the freedom meme in August 2021? So many of them posted it in August, specifically August 3 and August 21. do these people post any original content?

1

u/ganonpig HCA Historian Aug 16 '22

Earliest vector was July 22. Second one was August 1. I would say 90% were shared from those two accounts

1

u/Such-Wrongdoer-2198 Aug 17 '22

I don't understand... So many tots and pears, and yet they all died. It almost makes you doubt that prayers kill viruses... almost.

1

u/Such-Wrongdoer-2198 Aug 17 '22

Wow. That is a horrible track record. If any of that bunch of loons every offered me a prayer: HELL NO. I want to live.

1

u/tomdurkin Aug 17 '22

21 people went to Turkey Day dinner. at lease 8 that he knows of caught Covid. Freedumb!
