The third one because I can almost guarantee he wants to stop teaching the history of why we as a nation have a racial justice problem because it offends him

Great find op!

Technically rifles kill around 400 a year, but that doesn't include the appx 36% of gun deaths that are "gun type unspecified" OR the number of people that are wounded by rifles.

Also, 400 is still too much.

| and this guy got a four month vacation |

I know your post is supposed to be sarcasm, but the more I started to think about it, the reality of it is pissing me off. This a$$hole did get a four month vacation. If he wasn’t retired, he spent 4 months NOT WORKING. In fact he sucked up 4 months of medical resources that he’s never paying back. (I’m indirectly am paying for this chuckle f$ck) Meanwhile, I wake up every day and have to go into work. This guy gets to lay on this back, or stomach (if he’s on the spit roast) and sleep all day. He chose to do this by not getting the vaccine. Life really is unfair.

19

u/SupriseAutopsy13 Sep 01 '22

Definitely not a vacation. It's like training for an Olympic event, only the event is trying to get out of bed and your whole body needs to go into over-exertion to do it. And if he's in the ICU, staff is waking him up every hour at minimum to check on him. That's not including blood draws, xrays/CTs, respiratory taking care of his trach or suctioning, doctors doing their own separate check, medications, IVs, the "i" in ICU stands for intensive, and it is intense. People literally go crazy after being in the ICU probably from being constantly woken up and a never ending barrage of alarms going off. Look up hospital delirium, can happen with any ICU stay and lasts for a good while depending on the person. Not to say this genius didn't do it to himself, but yeah buddy wasn't on anything that could be called vacation.

11

Seriously. I was only in for most of a week, and I'm still doing rehab nearly a year later. Although, part of that is because I got a late start (this Spring) on the rehab because I had to wait until the cardiologist cleared me.

2

u/Dr_Adequate ✨PEEDOM in our UriNation🇺🇸 Sep 01 '22

I spent almost a week in ICU once, many years ago (way before Covid). Auto-cuff on left arm, taking my blood pressure every hour, IVs in both arms, I couldn't roll over. Sleeping was rough. Every night was miserable: There'd be some big-ass trainwreck of a car crash or something, with shouting, running, doors and pans banging.

It was actually quieter and I got more sleep during the daytime.

2

u/LegendofPisoMojado Sep 01 '22

I read something the other day that CRT was a graduate level elective only taught at a few universities. I was waiting for an appointment so I didn’t get to drill down any further.

It seems, like so many conservative talking points, that they are just grasping on to one niche thing and fear-bating their 4th grade reading level followers.

Edit: I read a little more. The Wikipedia article is interesting. “CRT is only taught at a university level…”

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_race_theory

My take: Liberals aren’t really pushing it, but it sounds solid from what I’ve read. Conservatives are just demonizing it without knowing what it is. And the critical stands for critical thinking, which is something republicans definitely don’t want their followers doing, as every argument they make would fall apart at cursory glance. They’re banning it in schools where it has never been part of the curriculum. I have never studied it so I’m not really qualified to comment. Just my opinion.

I couldn't get past "makes Jethro look like a genius" because there are a few parts that don't make sense.

I didn't watch the original Beverly Hillbillies, so this is based on the 90's movie (that I should probably rewatch), but Jethro isn't ever shown to be stupid. The comedy comes from him being simple (meaning unrefined or salt-of-the-earth) but good-hearted (kind, generous, good-natured, etc.). He's in a new environment but is still trying to do what's best for himself, his family, and the community.

So using him to make a hyperbolic comparison about intelligence (a concept that is much too complicated to be measured on a single, linear dimension and would be better captured across multiple dimensions, each of which can also be further subdivided) makes no god damn sense.

And why the fuck are they shit talking Jethro? Who the fuck ever had a problem with Jethro? I wish more of these fuckers acted more like Jethro. Jethro would have gotten the vaccine.

> Rifles: 300 or less per year

First, 300 or fewer.

Second, ~45,000 people die in the USA from guns each year, but "Rifles ... were involved in 3% of firearm murders".

I know, I know ... arguing rationally and assuming good faith with these numpties is a recipe for despair.

(quoting from https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2022/02/03/what-the-data-says-about-gun-deaths-in-the-u-s/ )

4

u/Jim_Macdonald Bet you won't share! Sep 01 '22

When you dig down in the data, perhaps 3% are identified as rifles, but a huge number are "firearm, not otherwise specified." Some percent of the unspecified firearms are, very likely, rifles.

3

u/Ellen1957 Sep 01 '22

This pisses me off as there was not one thanks given to all the doctors, nurses and other personnel who kept this man alive. I also wonder what his quality of life will be like after so long on a vent. One vaccine and maybe some monoclonals taken immediately could have prevented him from going to the hospital. But no, he has to listen to all the misinformation about covid while he gets sicker and sicker. How many people did he also infect since he would not wear a mask?

3

u/feder_online Team Pfizer Sep 01 '22

I just love these...
Slides 10 & 11, talking shit about wearing a mask, Slide 18 wearing a mask and ringing the "I Can Stand Up" bell after 54 days in ICU on a vent, and Slide 13 where he can't touch the top of his head, like some character in the Peanuts cartoons.

But, hey, that GoFundMe will cover the expenses that were totally avoidable...for free.

Brit here. How does it work if the patient doesn't have the money to pay a medical bill? Presumably there's not much the hospital can do about it.

pretty much the patient will be sued and the hospital can go after all the assets, which in this case will lead to bankruptcy

About these pseudo-Xtians: Michael Gerson, a Washington Post columnist and former Dubya speechwriter (hey, he just wrote 'em; he had no control over what actually came out of Dubya's piehole) has an interesting column in today's WP.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/09/01/michael-gerson-evangelical-christian-maga-democracy/

There's a paywall, but I'll copy/paste his thesis here: "But as a religious person (on my better days), what concerns me are the perverse and dangerous liberties many believers have taken with their own faith. Much of what considers itself Christian America has assumed the symbols and identity of white authoritarian populism — an alliance that is a serious, unfolding threat to liberal democracy."

Not assuming all magats are vax deniers, and more importantly, not all vax deniers are magats, but everyone on this sub knows there's a strong positive correlation.
