My relatives are mostly Christian and a vast majority of them got the vaccine. They are also mostly pro-choice and don't really care if gay people get married. A fun group.

I grew up around New England Christians my whole life. These folks could be somewhat socially conservative, but are mostly moderate Democrats. A lot of these people just go to church on Holidays. I haven't been to church since reaching adulthood myself, and I don't practice any faith. What is going on right now is not a uniquely Christian problem. The problem is fundamentalism. These fanatical fundamentalists exist within the Jewish faith and Muslim faith as well. These people are the toxic, crazy, cult people. Most people who identify as "Christian" are like your neighbors or grandparents.

Religion can be dangerous, but I've also seen it give older people a purpose, a sense of community, and a reason to get out of bed every day. I think that the best religious people take sort of a universalist approach and respect all faiths, while focusing on the good teachings and messages. Other people use religion as a weapon, and use it as a tool for power and control. The scary thing is that we could probably eliminate religion tomorrow, and these people would find some other belief system to get dogmatic and cultish around. It's more about fear and hate than it is about any one single religion, in my view anyways.

I think religion is more than about fear and hate. It's comforting not to feel alone and that someone is in control of things. I don't understand some of these award winners though. There are so many that live comfortable lives. But they're miserable.

Yeah, that's my point. I heard a quote that said essentially, "Religion is a knife. You can use it to spread butter, or to stab people". The unfortunate issue is that the "stabbers" are more vocal and more politically active

There are plenty of verses in the bible that say not to test God either. For example:

  • And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

As usual, these people don't really care what Jesus told them to do, only what saying Jesus' name will let them get away with doing. Too bad for them, covid doesn't care who you name drop.

It's hard to believe that they can't see the MASSIVE SELF OWN headed their way. But, I guess you would need to lower your IQ into the double digits and spend every free moment watching Fox News to even begin to understand where they are coming from.
