I have horses, but ivermectin is also used for cattle and pigs, though it’s administered differently.
2
u/Cum_on_doorknob Oct 23 '22
I mean, it’s ivermectin. As a doctor, I hate seeing it called anything but it’s proper drug name. It’s an ineffective medication for Covid. That fact is enough, no need to get hyperbolic and make it sound even worse, just hurts our credibility.
6
u/FrillySteel Oct 23 '22
But it is a horse dewormer. That's like saying "I hate it when people call a banana a fruit... it's a banana!"
3
u/Cum_on_doorknob Oct 23 '22
It's an anti-parasitic. It's the first line treatment for many parasitic infections in humans.
It's like calling amoxicillin "cat uti medicine." Yea, it's given to your cat, but it's also a standard antibiotic for humans.

u/Apprehensive_Hat8986 Oct 23 '22 edited Oct 23 '22
I'm not a part of anyone's "our". And calling out bastards is a pretty routine activity of mine, so my credibility isn't going to be particularly damaged by calling them a "pig" once, for a joke.
Absolutely, in a more formal context, I'd speak with more propriety. On occasion it is useful to provide citations to support an argument about both the recklessness of advocating the use of ivermectin, as well as the advantages of reducing police funding in favour of social services. But this is not that time.
This. is. Sunday!
p.s. Unrelated to any of the rest of it, if you are an M.D., thank you. You lot have been through absolute hell, and the work you do to provide health care and save lives is deeply appreciated.
3
u/Cum_on_doorknob Oct 23 '22
Your point on it being Sunday is fair. I just see it so often all the time, and it gets on my nerves.
And thanks for the kind words. Covid has made this job pretty rough.

u/Visible-Secretary121 Oct 23 '22

I work in urgent care. I get phone calls all the time when I’m working the front desk (mainly at X-ray), with elderly people like “hey, we did a uhhh come Covid test, which came back barely positive” (no dude, even the slightest positive line is the same as the most clear positive line). Then he continued- “we just aren’t sure what to do. I mean it was barely positive. We tried that horse medicine and everything, we aren’t sure what else we could do. I mean we aren’t taking the vaccine of course”.
I mean I could give them a lecture like “you’re being lied to, that shit won’t fucking work”. But they are too old and too far gone into the Republican Party to be reasoned with. So I just had to go for the “we could see you for your symptoms if you like”

I remember that. About the same time those antivax pastors and radio hosts were dropping like flies. We lost a lot of police to Covid, too. Fortunately we didn't lose any good cops to the disease.
26
u/AgentEntropy Oct 23 '22
Fortunately we didn't lose any good cops to the disease.
Anti-vax cops are bad cops by definition.
18
u/xJellyfishBrainx Oct 23 '22
Exactly. Most anti vax people aren't those I would trust to react to a situation objectively, calmly and without certain biases and prejudices....
15
u/ecthelion108 Oct 23 '22
I remember it seemed to me at the time that peddlers of disinformation were just lying, because they questioned the vaccine publicly, but received it discreetly, like how Trump got vaccinated but didn’t tell anyone right away.
18
u/ecthelion108 Oct 23 '22
Unfortunately, we did lose good cops as well as bad ones. We even lost medical personnel who allowed their political beliefs to override their better judgement. These professionals were like the character in the horror movies that said, “I know, let’s split up!”
5
u/Mysterious_Status_11 Stick a fork in Meatloaf🍴 Oct 23 '22
Seeing as Covid was the leading cause of death among police two years in a row, of course it would reason that we lost some good ones. It's easy to forget that sometimes those who let political beliefs override their judgement also take innocents down with them, or occasionally it turns out that they were otherwise decent people.
My empathy is reserved for those who didn't reject the evidence in front of their faces but still succumbed to the disease.
2
u/ecthelion108 Oct 24 '22
I believe you’re in the right place. Medical personnel who were vaccinated, protected, and died because of their duty, and their sense of compassion, are rightly praised

I wonder if at the end he had a moment of clarity, thinking to himself “what have I done? I should’ve gotten the vaccine” Or if in his last moments he blamed the hospital or something.

Are people still pushing ivermectin? I would think that if they are it has to have died down. Because so many people taking it…. Well…. Died
1

Exactly. How do they explain those that take ivermectin, get covid and die. As usual, antivaxxers ignore any evidence they have it all wrong. They are so transparent and stupid 😁

Is too mean to think that if you’re stupid enough to prefer medical advice from a cop than a doctor you deserve to die. Basically you’re too stupid to live.

I mean, yeah, the guy is dumb and he earned his award, but:
Can we stop calling it "horse dewormer"? That's a bit dishonest since Ivermectin is prescribed to humans to treat parasites too. It's not exclusively used in horses.
Idk where he got it. I know some dummies have gotten it from vets or animal hospitals. I'm just saying it's also used in humans too so let's stop acting like he put on a flea collar or something.

IIRC, Ivermectin won a...Nobel?....prize for being extremely effective against certain parasites in animals and humans (eye worms? Blech, the Boy George earworm I got from the above posts is bad enough). It's a great drug, and I would approve of its use for things it is known to be effective for. There is NO valid evidence that it is useful to prevent or treat Covid. People taking Ivermectin formulated for animals are potentially threatening their health, in addition to the fact that the same people are eschewing known-safe vaccine(s), reasonably effective precautions (masks, social distancing) and usually promoting all kinds of inconsistent mis/disinformation. Personally, I don't think I've ever listened to RM, although I can't say for sure.

False bullshit, already disproven, and seriously flawed. City officials indicated that the program was not completed and two of the authors of this 'study' were paid by a company that manufactures Ivermectin.
Stop spreading lies.
