Had ANOTHER repair (garbage disposal this time) and the plumber wore a mask and disinfected everything he touched. Very thankful for that and that it was a 10 minute repair if that.

Little bit of a good story for this Tuesday.

The various repair persons etc who've been here have all been masked etc, and I always tell them I have extra masks, gloves, etc.

People found this useful yesterday, so a repeat:

https://jessicawildfire.substack.com/p/you-may-be-early-but-youre-not-wrong

You May Be Early, but You're Not Wrong: A Covid Reading List -- Jessica Wildfire

There’s no permanent immunity from this virus. Each time we catch it, this virus attacks our hearts and minds. It weakens us. It tries to kill us. It imprints on us, so a future variant has a better shot next time.

That next time could be a few months later.

Here are the key points:

  1. You can catch Covid multiple times.
  2. Reinfections are common, not rare.
  3. Breakthrough infections are common.
  4. Covid can kill you months after you recover.
  5. It can cause brain damage.
  6. It can cause blood clots and heart attacks.
  7. It doesn’t spare children.
  8. Vaccines help, but only some.
  9. Masks work.

Everyone should know about these studies. I’ve linked to the original articles. I’ve tried to summarize them in clear language. I’ve also linked to summaries written by journalists who still care about the truth.

Here they are: [follow the link, folks].

My full-time job pay finally came in today. Hooray.

The money from my Sunday job is only going to come more than a week after the last day of this month (tomorrow), which kinda sucks because it'll help with my expenses while I'm financially recovering.

Seen posts, comments asking and explaining what the HCA has slowed down.

I want to ask this again: what was the craziest award you can remember seeing on here?

31

u/ShirwillJack Reverse Vampire 🩸 Nov 29 '22

For me they all kind of blur together in one smear of racism, anti-LGBTQI+ posts, hate, and family oversharing gruesome medical detail after gruesome detail. And there's that one picture of the newborn baby on their mother's coffin.

There was one where the person texted "Jews" right before they died.

5

u/sneaky518 CHICKEN SOUP NOT COMMUNISM! Nov 30 '22

That's my favorite too. Many hypoxic posts were rambling nonsense, but "Jews" is like "Croatoan".

They kind of blur together for me too. I remember one that ended with a terrifying post from the hospital, with the confused and hypoxic patient begging for help in broken sentences. The ones that lost multiple family members and kept shitposting always stick out too.

10

u/gabarito1701 Nov 29 '22

I remember that one too, with the garbled texts. One of the grimmest things I have read here, and they are all pretty damn grim!

Craziest has to be the "tiny house" couple, they were 15-minutes famous having been on the tiny house show on HGTV or something. Anyway, extreme right-wing, ultra-fundie types, COVID is a bioweapon, no vaccine for me, etc. Husband considerably overweight and probably had some other comorbidities, and so naturally when COVID hit them, it got him bad.

He had a very long, very slow decline and she got more insane as it went along. Sharing stories of lifting her shirt and pressing her chest against the window of his ICU room, for instance. Then getting more and more desperate near the end, encouraging her Facebook friends to flood the hospital with calls and harass their employees. She moved on to demand increasingly bizarre treatments - from ivermectin to light treatment and whatever else. Constantly documenting her husband's decline with awful pictures.

When he finally died, her grief was directed into anger at the "protocols" that she told herself had actually killed her husband. She was threatening to sue the hospital, sue the doctors, etc. I'm sure she received some letters from the hospital's legal team because she went absolutely silent about legal action pretty soon after that.

These days she chronicles her ongoing journey as a widow, continuing to insist though that it wasn't actually COVID that took her husband.

I remember feeling really bad for one of their daughters, who is a nurse or at least works in the medical field. She probably knows the vaccine likely would have saved her father, but can't tell her wacko mother that.

I don’t remember that one. To me, they’re all a blur. Lemming after lemming.

The one that I remember is the guy that cancelled his medical insurance. Then got Covid.

That was grade A stupid and it made me angry over the widow and children he left behind.

16

u/jeweltea1 Viruses Don't Read Nietzsche Nov 29 '22

I remember him bragging about how much it would save him a month.

7

u/BravoLimaPoppa Science and Medicine Warrior Nov 29 '22

That.

I'm only a effing MBA but I know how to mitigate risk. This guy IIRC, had much more education.

7

u/Designer_Gas_86 My elders were children the whole time Nov 29 '22

Wait, canceled? So he didn't lose his job but was like " nah, I'm out."

18

u/jeweltea1 Viruses Don't Read Nietzsche Nov 29 '22

They do blur together. There was one, a youngsh guy, whose wife? listed all the stuff as it happened. He had kidney damage, leg amputated and MANY other things going on. It was horrific. I remember it was during Delta and not long after I found this sub so probably in the early fall of 2021. I read it to my husband and I will never forget the look of horror on his face.

u/RememberThe5Ds Fully recovered. All he needs now is a double-lung transplant. Nov 29 '22 Take My Energy

This guy was not an HCA, but I am haunted by the unvaccinated guy who was on the ECMO machine at UAB for over 15 months. He was waiting for a double lung transplant, then a heart + double-lung transplant.

I followed him for about a year. His death was gruesome and horrible. It happened earlier this month. A suitable heart + lungs were found and he had an operation to put them in that lasted 22 hours. There was mention of it taking longer due to COVID scarring on his lungs. The next day he went back into surgery due to bleeding and he needed 108 units of blood. A couple of days after that, it was posted that he never regained brain function after the first surgery. Life support was disconnected. He left behind a wife and three small kids and many relatives.

They seemed like decent people, but it's quite possible the FB pages were scrubbed. His wife's page did not permit comments and neither he nor his wife had anything on FB that was more recent than 2018 or 2017. He had a 2018 copy-pasta that advised FB not to sell his information.

I found this guy when a 20-something relative of his died a few months after the guy went on ECMO. Yes, having a relative on ECMO was not enough of an incentive for the second guy to get the vaccine, which I find mind-boggling. Disinformation is so insidious.

Apparently ECMO Man made a good friend who was also at UAB and also on ECMO for a time. The friend walked out with a double-lung transplant. That guy is obviously conservative and is very Jesus-y on his FB page. There is no shitposting there, but he also acts like having a double lung transplant is NBD and he's SO THANKFUL TO JAYSUS. Of course no mention of anything positive regarding the vaccine.

The relative that posted the updates works in the medical field. Around the time ECMO man was on ECMO, this relative posted some demographics for COVID patients in the ICU at UAB, vaccinated versus unvaccinated. That was the only pro-vaccine post I ever saw. It was subtle. This person probably thought, done is done and why rub salt in the wound.

One of ECMO man's young children was a cancer survivor, very serious, Make A Wish, the whole nine yards. I keep thinking, wouldn't having a cancer survivor in your family make you want to protect your kid by getting a vaccine? Apparently not.

The whole thing makes me very sad. The guy never lost hope that he would get his organs, and by all accounts he was very positive and upbeat, despite his situation. He had an instagram account for a while.

I fully admit I would not be so positive and strong. I probably would have been begging for death after a month or so. But then again, I got the fucking vaccine, so hopefully I won't have to be that strong and live through what this man experienced.

It's just sad to me. It's a waste of life. And he won't be around to see his kids grow up. For what? To say you aren't a "sheep?" To own the libs? For Medical Freedumb? Why?

I lost my father when I was in elementary school to something that couldn't have been prevented, at least not with the technology that existed at the time.

Maybe that's why I cannot stop thinking about this guy.

Since no one has mentioned this one, the woman who was married for 50+ years.

Her husband remarried 6 months after she died and his new wife had one of those "I got vaccinated" watermarks on her FB page.

This song from the 60s is still absolutely relevant today. In fact, I think more people should listen to Tom Lehrers uncanny insight in his music. Its about commies and ww3 lol. Sorry, my dad and his besties are hippies so I grew up w all this "librul snowflake" protest music. Buffy Sainte Marie anyone?

Update from yesterday: SO unfortunately tested positive with the at-home test. CVS is also being a giant pain trying to get the insurance run so she can have a consultation for Paxlovid so we just paid the $60 or whatever. Hopefully she does get approved for it once her appointment comes up or that will have been a waste of money.

Once again, it would be nice to have Medicare For All, but good luck with that in my lifetime I guess. :(

Today is my birthday!

Usually I like to treat myself to show tickets, etc around the time of my Solar Revolution, it's a yearly tradition since time immemorial! It doesn't have to be ON my birthday, but near. However, that hasn't happened the past couple of years...the last one I was going to see was cancelled.

On the plus side, the weather isn't horrible AND I'm not an HCA winner. I'd rather be huffing than not puff at all....🎵🎵

A new batch of HCA winners will be coming to your local Twitter soon!

Not surprising at all with everything that is happening at $8chan, but it still is infuriating.

Thinking about how around this time last year Nicki Minaj decided to lie about her cousin's friend's brother or whatever getting swollen balls from the vaccine and hearing about that shit on Fox News (my parents watch Fox News.) Weird world we live in. I have no idea who said it but whoever said truth is stranger than fiction is right on the money.

Some of you might remember this, but I was going to fly to see my nephews for Halloween. They and their crazy fucking family are not vaccinated and they have had Covid three times now.

Then they got were sick, probably with an RSV, so I decided to postpone.

I agonized a bit about whether or not I should go before Xmas and got some good advice here. The oldest is being neglected/abused by the family for being LGBTQ, so he needs a lot of support. He's also had long haul covid symptoms for quite a while.

I was going to fly out this weekend. They have every holiday like it's 2018, no vaxs, no masks, no precautions whatsoever.

Big shocked, one of them is very sick today. Probably just another RSV.

Grrrr......

I'm wondering what people in this subreddit think of the protest going on in China right now over the Zero COVID Policy? I'm also wondering what response people have seen from anti lockdown morons?

3

u/Humble_vikingman Nov 30 '22

They're protesting because people were locked into buildings then burned alive when there was a fire and they couldn't escape.
