Spoiler alert: they're all dead.

38

u/UncleBenders Nov 29 '22

Surely not, I thought covid was nothing to fear, they had links and everything 🤯

35

u/timtomorkevin Nov 29 '22

It was not covid, libtard. It was the diabetes/obesity/other health condition that they were living with before covid came along that suddenly, for no particular reason, killed them (when they caught covid).

17

u/summeringseventy8 Nov 29 '22

I know you're kidding, but it still makes me angry that these people will blame anything but COVID for killing their spouse.

5

u/ShnickityShnoo Team Pfizer Nov 30 '22

Wrong, bucko! It was the vaccine shedding from libralz that killed them. Yes even the deaths before the vaccine existed. How? Peach tree dish baby eating lizard people with Jewish space laser eyes, and G5, that's how!

u/gnurdette The HCAplain Nov 29 '22

I like #14 fantasizing about killing health workers.

I like #15 all-capsing people "YOU DON'T HAVE TO FEAR COVID" while hospitalized (I think HC stands for Hospital Care) with COVID, just before ceasing to post anything.

Great job condensing these stories down to their essence. If you ever want to work for Readers' Digest Condensed Books, you've got your portfolio ready.

29

u/T-West1 Nov 29 '22

HC stands for high care. It's a treatment phase where you are seriously Ill but not yet admissible to ICU.

The people that love posting that meme have zero issue with government tyranny when cops are beating the hell out of peaceful protesters.

19

u/JeromeBiteman Nov 29 '22

Actually, violence against POC is increasingly being privatized. E.g., Kyle Rittenhouse, Greg and Travis McMichael, and George Zimmerman.

With the recent news that people in China have started to openly protest the severe and repressive policies of its authoritarian government, I thought it'd be interesting to look at the contrast between actual tyranny and a meme posted by the persecution delusion crowd.

China : Forcibly locking people up in their homes and other buildings for weeks or months, forced testing, and city wide hard lockdowns.

USA : Common sense responses such as social distancing, masking, and vaccination.

These meme-sharers threw irrational tantrums and dialed every slight inconvenience up to 11, with slippery slope scenarios and conspiracy theories that painted everything as precursors to death camps (see also every holocaust meme).

Compare being asked for proof of vaccination before being allowed to enter a venue, with pets in China literally starving to death because the owners are forcibly quarantined somewhere else and there's no one to feed them. Imagine if the government bolted down your doors and windows and then you happen to suffer a medical emergency. Last week 10 people died in a high-rise fire because they weren’t able to get out of their apartments due to lockdown measures. That's actual tyranny. Your employer requiring you to get vaccinated to protect the health of all employees? Not even close.

The meme contains no words or labels. To one person the guy with the whip represents the kleptocratic corporations who refuse to pay a livable wage, to another he's a politician asking you to not turn thanksgiving dinner into a super spreader event. It's very multi purpose that way.

This compilation consists of the "stand up to tyranny" meme combined with one more meme or short talking point that further exemplifies the delusion and imagined persecution. But really for all their bluster about 'not giving in to tyranny', what it really amounts to is simply "I refuse to be vaccinated" masked with a thin veneer of patriotism.

I rate this a

  • Fearmongering about loss of freedom / totalitarian state meme

  • Downplaying covid meme

  • Sowing distrust in science / promoting vaccine conspiracy theories meme

Echidnas are indeed adorable. I don't know why I find tiny spiny animals so appealing. Our porcupines...not so much, except as babies. Some of those are obviously staged & styled glamour shots, but I can assure you that, like American possums, in the wild they are not appealing critters. They're remarkable tree climbers despite their bulk and clumsiness on the ground.

2

u/snootnoots Dec 03 '22

Echidnas are friend shaped even with the spikes, and they don’t actually stab you with them. They just discourage you from getting bitey.

44

u/captcha_trampstamp Nov 29 '22

These people have lived a charmed life compared to anyone under an actual tyrannical government. They have no basis for comparison. They’re used to privilege, screaming at some poor employee to get their way, and they usually have no real experience in how their government actually works, or the basics of economics and how that applies to other systems we live within.

People who believe conspiracy theories also don’t understand governments and bureaucracies, and how they’re slow, full of bottlenecks, lowest-common-denominator resources, and lots of dumb rules and cultures meant to keep upper management happy. They don’t realize that these are not the bastion of innovation and intelligence they’ve been made out to be. Hell, where I live in PA, government employees don’t even have to be drug tested because it would decimate their workforce, if that tells you anything.

But it makes them feel important, intelligent, and like they are aware of a secret other people don’t know. It’s easy to set up a boogeyman, and easier still to blame everything on that boogeyman when things go wrong. Look at all the people out there blaming global inflation/gas prices on President Biden, or who still point to Trump being responsible for low gas prices- even though at their lowest, those prices were because demand was in the toilet during Covid.

Basically, they’re used to the easy route. They’re privileged to be able to live their lives on the surface of an ocean full of currents and data they will never understand. They never learned that data is not always presented in a neat and useful sound bite, or that science/data collection is ever-changing.

Why learn about your world and how it works, when you can just sit on the floor and scream about it?

22

u/Pandraswrath Curbside Prophet Nov 29 '22

I’d make the argument that Trump was responsible for those low gas prices due to his handling of the virus that was responsible for driving the prices down ;)

u/Haskap_2010 ✨ A twinkle in a Chinese bat's eye ✨ Nov 29 '22

I remember the eerily empty roads in early 2020. Yeah, there wasn't much demand for gasoline then. Funny how supply and demand works.

7

u/dumdodo Nov 29 '22

There was a point during the lockdown when oil hit a negative price per barrel - I think it was -$50 or -$60 per barrel.

The ships had nowhere to offload it, and no one had a place to put it.

(I considered buying some to load into my ship/canoe, but couldn't take enough).

It's easy for gas prices to fall when oil is that abundant. Not sure this was due to Trump's skills.

6

u/thinking_is_hard69 Nov 29 '22

a reservation- drug tests don’t mean much, if anything I usually only see them in shitty temp jobs. a friend of mine works a government job; the culture’s good and the people are motivated, no drug tests needed.

6

u/captcha_trampstamp Nov 29 '22

I’ve worked in all corporate jobs for the last 17 years, and every single one of those required a drug test. I work on the corporate side of a pharmacy chain now so they 1000% require it.

6

u/Haskap_2010 ✨ A twinkle in a Chinese bat's eye ✨ Nov 29 '22

One place I worked, the client demanded it for everyone who might be going to the job site. Fair enough, but it included testing for alcohol, which leaves the body within about a day or two. So you could test negative on the one day that you gave a urine sample and then show up half drunk a few days later.

For a bunch of people that don't want "Big Gubmint" they sure haven't the first clue about being ruled under King George. Like, watch Hamilton or something. Oh wait, there are a lot of brown people in that.

OK, then how about 1776, that one is full of white people & if a musical is too "gay" for them, the John Adams min-series would work as would a movie I saw a lot in elementary school, Johnny Tremain.

Granted they're probably not fully historically accurate but it's a start, especially Johnny Tremain since I think that was intended for kids which is about their level.

These people always think they're rebel heroes fighting for freedom against the evil empire, but what they really are, is just cannon fodder used by individuals smarter and meaner than them.
They aren't fighting an enemy; they're attacking their own society and end up dying in one of the dumbest ways a human being can die, and their society objectively became better with them no longer in it.

All that they were was an obstruction that made noise, used to prevent any progress from being made, and the real problem is that there are so many of them, and no one is doing anything to stop the scum that is creating them.

“Prayer warriors”. It seems like nearly every Facebook post is people pleading for their “prayer warriors” to help save their loved ones, and, to the surprise of none of us, it never works.

But like, the audacity of these people to claim that their religion is peaceful and loving while absolutely gulping down the warrior crusader propaganda. Then they sit there and talk about how other religions are violent and hateful.

6

u/maxreddit Nov 29 '22

I think that it's telling that they associate "prayer" (having an intimate conversation with God) with "warriors" (people who perform violence in wars). It's like they can't relate to anything unless it's aggressive and violent and they believe that's how all relationships (including the one with the almighty) should be approached.

"He's with Jesus now! He's soaring on eagles' wings! He's partying it up with the Lord and they're having a laugh over a beer, and we're all so happy he's dead!" is how it actually sounds.

12

u/Emotional_Weekend_32 Nov 29 '22

Oh, I hate all those ghastly platitudes: 'he's soaring on eagle's wings', 'he's singing with the angels', 'she's sitting at Jesus' feet.' They are so cringey. I wouldn't use them for anyone who'd died; they don't even sound sincere, just nauseating.

5

u/HerringWaffle Happy Death Day!⚰️ Nov 29 '22

We as a culture are just so squeamish around death. Ever since I read a few books by morticians, I became aware of this and usually now I just say "So-and-so died," instead of 'They passed on.' Just to be one more voice making death a part of life, as it is.

Or, you know, the things you were told about Australia are complete bullshit.

9

u/uppervalued Nov 29 '22

In all sincerity, where does the constitution say you can overthrow a tyrannical government? Because I’ve never seen that. Di they mean through a constitutional amendment?

11

u/nyet-marionetka Nov 29 '22

It doesn’t. That’s in the Declaration of Independence, and the words of a lot of the founders, but not in the Constitution itself. I think it’s a very American thing to say we should be able to set up a new government of the old one is not working, but the Civil War shows that only works if you can pull it off.

11

u/uppervalued Nov 29 '22

I just love the "you should try reading the Constitution!!!" argument when nothing they say is actually in the Constitution.

7

u/ThaliaEpocanti Nov 29 '22

A lot of these morons try to argue that the 2nd amendment implies you can overthrow the government, because why would they let you have guns otherwise?

It’s more motivated reasoning than an actual logical argument, but that’s to be expected at this point.

1

They're also conveniently forgetting the part of the 14th Amendment that bans insurrectionists from holding office.

2

u/DualtheArtist Nov 30 '22 edited Nov 30 '22

Except for how we got labor laws, the black rights movement, and pretty much everything of consequences that was attained only through violence and pinkertons killing a shit load of strikers and dropping bombs on them from planes.

The real facts are that progress ONLY gets made through violence, and rich people and politicians are against violence only because it's the only way to make them do anything not in the interests of the rich.

Violence is the great equalizer. For everything else a rich guy can just hold money over your head until you can't buy food or pay rent until you die. For everything else theres a money shield so that rich people can behave like assholes and screw people over constantly without ever suffering any consequences. Just look at Elon Musk. Literally, the only thing that will stop him is if the employees beat him up and humble him. That's how we got the 40 hour work week, over time pay rates, and unemployment benefits, workers just kept beating the shit out of their bosses until they were forced to start behaving like human beings.

If people didn't use violence, we literally wouldn't have any workers' rights.

https://www.marketplace.org/shows/marketplace/china-zero-covid-anti-government-protests/

People in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou clashed with police overnight, in the latest protest against the country’s strict zero-tolerance for COVID policy.

Footage online showed cops in full hazmat suits clutching riot shields to protect themselves from debris lobbed by protesters.

Unrest has broken out in several Chinese cities since the weekend. While most of the protests are small in scale, they’re significant because the demands include political change.

“I don’t think anyone can tolerate [zero-COVID] anymore,” an American businessman in Shanghai said. “People in Xinjiang got locked down for more than three months and Shanghai [was] 2.5 months. It was so difficult. So many people got depression.”

snip

Many people in China still haven’t heard about the protests because of heavy censorship.

A young man unhappy with [the vague blockade and] information lockdown marched up to the police at a barricade. “What are you controlling?” he asked them.

“Traffic,” one cop replied. “Why?” asked the young man. “We’ve told you everything we know,” said another officer. “We’re just here to execute orders. I can give you a number to complain.”

“You want me to complain about you to your people? What am I, crazy?!” the young man said before bystanders pulled him away.

A number of people, including foreign journalists, were detained.

Police have since stepped up their presence across China and are still tracking to see who attended the protests.
