Rats like driving more than cheese ANIMALS

u/Armidylla Jul 11 '21
Seems like scientists just keep coming back to "Oh shit, these critters are smarter than we thought." Kind of revelations.

u/ADecentURL Jul 11 '21
What I remember from the study was the rats that were driving had increased levels of happy chemicals (idr which ones) while the passenger rats had increased stress levels.
If you don't think a rat sitting shotgun being stressed out is the funniest thing you've ever heard, don't talk to me.

“Phil ... PHIL! You just ran a red light!!”
“Oh, what do you know, Greg, we can’t see red.”

Yeah, there was also a recent study which found that many previous intelligence tests done on reptiles were very faulty due to originally being designed for mammals. If the room temperature was adjusted to suit their needs it turned out that turtles were actually better at solving mazes than mice and that lizards engaged in play-behaviour

Lizards are wild, and after caring for them for most of my life, I can definitely say that many “facts” about how they socialize and perceive the world are completely false. I have had monitors cuddle and purr like cats, and some that enjoy fetch. I have heard many many times how no matter how they act, playing with other animals will stress them out; complete non sense. A monitor I had would ride around on the back on our German Sheppard growing up, and when he got bigger, they would play tag for hours and pass out all curled up together; “solitary non social animals” 🙄.

Why do we need self driving cars when we can teach these dudes to be our chauffeurs?

They never said they were good drivers

Tesla autopilot is not that great either. Give them a chance. They need to become more experienced

I demand someone makes a live action remake of all the F&F movies but with rats as the actors.

u/wylietrix Jul 11 '21
Rats are super smart, this could be done. You find funding and I'll write it.

u/Gronk_da_Cronk Jul 11 '21
Isn’t it already written?

They should build a rat city with working cars and just have a couple rats together in the city

When (non-human) animals take over the world it will be because we trained them to.

u/MikeViteri Jul 11 '21
Zootopia style or Planet of the Apes style?

u/fluffybottom Jul 11 '21
I’m afraid this will be something unexpected. When the animals Team up with AI, it could be a whole new genre of Oh No, What have We Done!

Wait till the rat hits it's first traffic jam and has to commute an hour to get some cheese. Then tell me how happy it is.

u/thatlegendsguy Jul 11 '21
As the owner of five rats Im gonna need the specs on how to build this now. Any ideas?

They will inherit the earth when humans disappear. And drive the leftover cars.

Once their parents inform them that they are now the family chauffeur you can count on that changing quickly enough! (Okay, this is just cool!)

I hate rats and even installed mouse traps at my porch that can catch 15-20 mouse at once so I can release them somewhere far from my home

How do they tell that they enjoy it, and it's not just classical conditioning? I feel like they could just as easily be pavloved into "enjoying" it since they previously received treats for the behavior
5
u/Ruby_Ruth Jul 10 '21
Unfortunately I think they kill them and look at the development of their brains. I used to work with the faculty member who does this research.

Anyone who's read "The Mouse and the Motorcycle" by Beverly Cleary already knows this is true!

And now the important question is:
Are there any videos? Because, rats in cars make me go 'aw'.

If you think that's cool, wait until you give a mouse a toy motorcycle and a helmet.

We are this much closer to having a real life Ralph S. Mouse on a motorcycle!

animal exploitation is not funny or cute
This study is not meant to be either of those though?
0
u/nothemoon141141 Jul 11 '21
using animals for any purpose is animal exploitation. what did they do after this? gave them a good night’s kiss? dont be naive
1
u/Blane_plane Jul 11 '21
Good night kiss? Probably not but you're not just gonna kill a TRAINED animal once you run the experiment... I'm assuming you feel equally strong about all the tech you have right?

Probably a 25th generation lab mouse that's had its DNA altered. They look like they're already trying to modify it.
9
u/polchickenpotpie Jul 10 '21
This just in: animals feel nothing unless they're lab grown.
-5
u/jarbar82 Jul 11 '21
That's a hell of a jump to go from developing the ability to use tools to not being able to feel pain but you made it.
5
u/polchickenpotpie Jul 11 '21
Except this isn't a complicated vehicle on par with ours. It's a push toy lmao. Rats are some of the smartest creatures on earth.
Yet you're here claiming they can't manage that unless their DNA has been tampered with. But I'm the one who made a logical jump. H'okay bud.

Rats are super smart and love to play, I'm not surprised at all. When I had pet rats, mine loved to play fetch and a game they invented all by themselves called "knock all the books off the bookshelf."
