Movies pretty much always show people living super wealthy lifestyles. Massive apartments, beautifully furnished, meticulously decorated, etc.

They like to make it out like we can all easily live these cushy upper middle class ‘American Dream’ lifestyles with amenities like super expensive therapy with the safety bars etc.

So I think it’s both. It’s only in the movies, and that’s precisely because the vast majority of us don’t have insurance that remotely covers stuff like that.

I am a double amputee who lost my legs a few years ago and this comment really sums it up. Many times people ask me why I was in a chair for two years with no legs or, why i never had someone teach me how to walk again and this is why. It’s actually a very very difficult world out there and the bottom is compromised of trap doors.

Yea, even when I broke my collarbone I had a few months of prescribed therapy which cost me very little (and I was near-broke working in a grocery store at the time). I'm in the US, and I did have good insurance through that store, but was absolutely not wealthy or even close to middle class. There's no way OPs doctor would sell him this type of prosthetic without some kind of physiotherapist to teach him to use em - the prosthetics alone are expensive as hell.

Looks like he does have a therapist or nurse supervising, so maybe it was just time to try things without the extra support - gotta start somewhere and looks like OP is going for it!

We always got prosthetic patients within parallel bars when they get new legs or component ty. If we don’t and they fall as their prosthetist we are liable. Eventually they have to go out in the real world in slopes and uneven terrain and continue their progress. 🙂

Edit; the therapy is different than their fitting.

There’s a nurse in the back observing (red scrubs) and it looks like some kind of clinic facility. More than likely he’s been training with assistance and it’s time to progress further into unassisted walking.

It’s like learning to ride a bike. First you’re in training wheels til you get a hang of the movements and train your body how to balance. Eventually the training wheels have to come off and learn how to balance in your own. There’s going to be some falls here and there but that’s how your body reprogram itself to handle the situation and rebalance itself to prevent falling again.

source: broke my leg in 3 places and tore my ankle tendon, had PT for 6 months and had to learn how to walk on it again after healing.
