Came here with that thought. That 2nd photo dog is shifty eyed smug. Gud boi!

My dog did this once! She pretended to have a limp. I didn’t make a big enough deal about it, so she pretended she couldn’t put any weight on it. I took the day off and rushed her to the vet. She was completely fine. We snuggled up and watched Netflix the rest of the day.

That's adorable mine does this thing where he hiccups until I give him attention and then suddenly stops lol
17
u/turmeric212223 Jul 25 '21
Oh my goodness how hilarious and adorable!! I wonder how he figured out how to pretend hiccup 😂

u/Certain-Highlight180 Jul 25 '21
Your guess is as good as mine! He's really odd in the cutest ways. He doesn't bark and rarely make noises ie growl when playing so its really cute when he does it haha. 🐕 (: really are the best.

Mine did the same thing! He was limping and yelping whenever he tried to get up from laying down. I took off work to take him to the vet and $350 later they told me he just had a bruise and to just ice his leg. He was completely normal by that evening

u/turmeric212223 Jul 25 '21
Where do they get the idea to do this? I had no idea this was a thing anyone else did! I thought my dog was just a little diva.

u/Domino_Dare-Doll Jul 25 '21
Ya can’t tell me that dogs aren’t just fluffy children! The overlap is too striking, sometimes!

u/slightlysumthing Jul 25 '21
My one dog HATES when the other gets attention so he will play up the drama and do just about anything to put the focus back on him. That includes pretending he is dying when he just has a bruise, going to another area of the house and crying to make us check on him, and tackling our other dog if they are getting pets
3
u/turmeric212223 Jul 25 '21
Crying to make you check on him?! What a little drama queen! I’m such a sucker I would give him a treat anyway 😂

My puppy started limping really badly after our morning walk. I was freaking out, then my dad stopped by and he started jumping around and playing with him. Then it hit me that my arthritis was flaring that morning and I was limping...little asshole was mocking me.

Only$85???? That's not bad, many vets around here charge $150 JUST for seeing the pet.
22
u/xaioner Jul 24 '21
Wait what? Here it's about 15 euros (roughly 18 bucks) for a whole consultation

Wait what? I never thought the human health care cost differences would also be animal health care cost differences. I can’t imagine taking a pet to the vet in America for under $100.
Edit to change can to can’t

An old roomie of mine had a puppy that was vaccinated for parvo, but contracted it anyways. He was in the ER for 2 days under heavy antibiotics and luckily he survived. $5k. I had to apply for a credit card to pay for it because my roomie didn't have the credit score to be able to get a card that would have a limit that high. Luckily in the end the vaccine company paid the bill because they were so confident in their vaccine that if it failed they would pay up to (I think) $6k. The whole ordeal was a nightmare and we both skipped work for it, but the puppy was so lucky to have made it

You really are really amazing. That's such a selfless act. I begged my dad to do the care credit but he refused. It's wasn't as if I didn't have a job or paid my rent etc on time. It took me a long time to accumulate money for Chase's surgery but in the end I did get there.

Thank you so much 💜 I care very deeply for animals, especially when they're suffering. I'm known in my neighborhood to care for/protect the stray cats the best I can, even though I'm not super well off at the moment. I think another one of my best moments was when I found a cat that had his back legs crushed. Poor kitty was so scared! I managed to capture him and took him to a humane society where we learned they would be able to fix his legs with surgery. I named him Wiley and he ended up getting adopted once he was rehabilitated 💙 as much as we wanted to take him in, I feel like I have a zoo already lol 4 indoor cats, all rescues, and two rescued golden retrievers. I had a rescued senior husky as well, but he sadly passed away a few months ago. I stayed with him the whole time and he passed peacefully in his sleep surrounded by a family that loved him more than anything 💜

It is a terrible disease. Thank goodness parvo has a cure. Glad your baby is well.

u/TrashyTrashPandy Jul 25 '21
It was my decision to take him in as soon as he was acting funny. I'm thankful we didn't wait any longer because he probably wouldn't have made it if we did!

Vets near me cost an obscene amount of money. Last year my dog tore his ACL- the whole thing cost me about $8,000. That's not including his meds (200 a month) and his physical therapy (500 for 6 sessions) which currently on round two. You have to come up with 75% of the surgery which is still a large amount when you don't have credit cards/ family to help. and you have to pay in cash. It took me a long time to afford his surgery where the partial turn into a full. If I ever get a puppy again- I'll definitely do insurance. I do think they take advantage of people and their pets. I love Chase to pieces and there's nothing I wouldn't ever do for him.

I was about to mention I think allstate is doing pet insurance now. Well worth the money but I dont know if there is a waiting period or enrollment timeframe. I'm looking at dogs this weekend and these costs have me scared a bit

Thank you so much for the information I will definitely look into that. I can only personally speak for myself and it's not like I'm even well-off to begin with but everything that I paid for Chase I never begrudged. No buyer's remorse nothing it's this amazing feeling when you adopt a dog- I got Chase when I was 25 I've had him for about a decade now and in the beginning it was really rough because he had mange and it was pretty expensive from the beginning but like I always say he's given me so much.
I do hope you get that puppy and I'm excited report back if you don't mind let me know what you decided to get and if you decide to get anything at all my guys and 80 lb Pitbull

My asshole cat did this to me too. “Oh my poor leg, the pain, I can’t stand” etc. Flew over to the vets, so distressed. He hopped out of the carrier and walked around the room. I was embarrassed and the vet was highly amused. Great cat and a good friend, but oh my god what a jerk.

u/Worst_username_eva Jul 25 '21
My cat did something like this to me at 5am on a freezing cold morning. She was crying at the base of my bed and wouldn’t put weight on her paw. I got up and raced over to her to see what was going on. As soon as I got around to the end of the bed she jumped up and ran to my pillow groove and curled up. She did not give up that spot without a fight either!

We took our dog to the vet after her spay because we were afraid that her body was pooling fluid near her hindquarters. We were really worried.
Doctor was professional and cheery, but basically told us in other words that she just had a fat ass.

Anybody know what kind of dog this is? Looks just like my mutt, and I've always wondered his breed.
7
u/Spuddingcup Jul 24 '21
Haha!! Can relate 🤣
We often say to our dog, "It's a good job we love you, isn't it?!". He has no idea what we're saying, but he I knows what's up.

LOL, sorry 'bout the cost but it gave the internet something to chuckle about, naughty boy
3
u/Alazteir Jul 25 '21
That’s nothing...
I paid 700 USD after tests and what not, for the vet to tell me my dog THOUGHT she was pregnant and that’s why she was acting weird/lethargic/nesting behavior.
🤦🏻♂️

It's kinda why I hate the end of wfh. I feel like a lot of pets won't like it.

u/visceralthrill Jul 24 '21
And people say that pets aren't like having kids.

u/dinkydat Jul 25 '21
Have both and will confirm. Animals are such actors. Kids and grandkids pull that trick, too.

My little baby brother has started doing the same. I think he’s just mocking the fact that I’ve been throwing up my lungs from all the wood I’ve been breathing in.

Now the dog known when he coughs, his owner stays home. Then he had to go to the vet and get a thermometer up his butthole.
