This kid has a wonderful grasp on language! Oh and the eternity of the spirit and all that jazz about love being only thing you take with you etc etc

1k

u/ParadiseSold Aug 05 '21

I think kids copy a lot of what they hear. So when kids have the language to express their emotions and they say sweet things about love and family I think it means that a lot of love has been shown to them

My niece just turned 4 and is starting preschool soon but she’s an only child and spent over a quarter of her life in quarantine with just her parents for company and she talks just like them now. It’s adorable when she calls her mom honey, like “honey I think I want to go play with my toys now” because obviously my sister calls her honey too.

126

u/msr2020 Aug 05 '21

My nephew calls his dad “babe” cause my sister calls him babe. He doesn’t say dad for anything. Just “babe.”

27

u/MelissaOfTroy Aug 05 '21

That’s hilarious!

6

u/mauve-dream Aug 06 '21

LOL I have a six month old and just last month told my husband we hace to start calling each other our names to avoid this happening

6

u/msr2020 Aug 06 '21

It’s funny. My mom takes care of my niece and nephew for a few hours before their dad comes from work. When their dad comes from work, my nephew is like ,”babe is here!!!” Before running and hiding.

My wife and I call each other hun, and then along came our first daughter, who we call hun often enough that she picked it up. Cute. Yet even cuter is our 2 year old son who speaks a lot of gibberish and throws hun on the end of every single request to anyone.

10

u/NixxVega Aug 06 '21

I call my significant other "fren"/"friend" pretty much exclusively. If we ever have kids, I can't wait to see how they respond to that. Will they call us "friend"? Will they go around calling others that? I don't know, but it's exciting to think about

This is spot on. I have started telling my 2 year old everyday that I love him. And we make a game out of it where I say I love you and he says No! I love you and then I say But I love you and then he says the same but louder.. it is precious.

Edit: i wanted to add that i am a Dad. A Pakistani Dad and we culturally don't say I love you aloud. It's thought of being soft or even feminine. My father never said it to me. But I have made it a point to tell my child everyday. I hope when he grows up he knows that his Dad loved him very much.

148

u/seekAr Aug 05 '21

My 7 year old and I do this! She is dramatic and likes being “sassy” so she yells increasingly ridiculous things like “no that’s it. Pack your bags. Get a train ticket. Shower up, do your hair. Get your shoes on and get in the car because I LOVE YOU MORE AND THATS THE END OF IT”

30

u/Wackipaki Aug 05 '21

Dayum your I love you game is way stronger than mine I gotta step up my game!

5

u/hazeldazeI Aug 05 '21

OMG I had a cuteness overdose!

14

u/45MinutesOfRoadHead Aug 05 '21

My son is 6 and for years we’ve had the “I love you more” argument. Even as he’s growing older he’s not embarrassed to hug me in front of his friends or tell me he loves me on his own. I know one day he’ll grow out of that but I’m hanging on to every moment.

34

u/monikar2014 Aug 05 '21

Toxic masculinity is alive and well in the USA as well. I can't remember my dad ever hugging me or saying I love you. I say it to my own son at least 10 times a day and get hugs whenever I can.

18

u/Wackipaki Aug 05 '21

Yas! Be the change you want to see!

3

u/cococleo Aug 06 '21

My dad would never hug me, (I’m Russian and I’m also a girl), Russian dads embody toxic masculinity and tend to mentally abuse their children, especially girls.

That awesome, I would award you gold, but I am poor. I have 5 children, I could have used this advice years ago.

79

It's absolutely not too late to start showing them more love

12

u/redditwb Aug 05 '21

It is absolutely never to late, it just gets harder. Thank you for the gold, it feels a bit undeserving.

3

u/MissCandid Aug 05 '21

It's not from me, but I bet whoever gave it feels the same as you! You're gonna be alright buddy❤

52

u/Thepinkknitter Aug 05 '21

I’m 25, and my parents were emotionally not great. There’s a lot of things I wish they didn’t do or say when I was a kid. It’s getting easier and easier to let it go because I’ve seen my parents really start to change. They’re more honest, open, and listen better. They’ve lessened how much they yell and have started changing how they talk to me. It’s never too late to change. If your kids can see you grow and change, you’ll be setting a fantastic example for them!

I could totally be mistaken so take this with a grain of salt, but I think I recall this girl having some condition that makes her appear much younger than she is. I feel like I read that she was seven or so, but I could 100% be talking out of my ass right now. Even if I am right, though, her eloquence is still impressive as hell.

51

u/dynalisia2 Aug 05 '21

Well she refers to her being 4 years old as apparently quite a while ago, so this could be true.

41

u/selfdeprecatinghuman Aug 05 '21

Did a quick google search. She was 5 at the point of time — her name’s Gabby. Can’t be sure about the credibility of the article tho but I’m definitely impressed by how eloquent her speech was, even if she was 7!

My best friends wife was adopted from China at a similar age. Just popped out a baby of her own. My mother was also adopted. Adoption truly is saving lives and seeing this just affirms everything I’ve always felt about it.

249

u/Limpdickit9000 Aug 05 '21

My dad was born in S. Korea during the war and was adopted so yeah I can say I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for wonderful people adopting

86

u/Ludicrisdisplay Aug 05 '21

Yes. I would so much love to adopt a child, but there are very strict rules. I might be too old, am 50.

97

u/CuriousGeorgeIsAnApe Aug 05 '21

I was adopted by a 55 year old single parent. I was an older child at the time, but still, I'm saying it's possible. All ages of children need a loving family.

14

u/Ludicrisdisplay Aug 05 '21

I would gladly adopt a 4 or 5 yo or older.

u/lisa_is_chi Aug 05 '21

You can be any age over 18 but you can't be gay. In texas I'm not eligible.

Edit: also we have one of the worst reputations for foster care AND our representatives are trying to overturn Roe vs Wade.

Edit #2. Adoption by same sex couples was made legal nationwide in 2015 although most texas judges still will not allow it.

12

u/ImaginaryAd7658 Aug 05 '21

That is ridiculous!! Texas don’t want the gay people to adopt?? How is this ok? I just don’t get it! If something happened to me and my kids had to be adopted I wouldn’t care if the people were gay or straight! Texas needs to focus on the character of the people they let foster and adopt and not whether they are in a same sex marriage or not!

We're US based, but my single mother adopted my youngest siblings when she was 55, they were five and seven at the time. There's such a need for foster and adoptive parents, depending on where you live I doubt your age would be a problem, especially if you are willing to foster/adopt older children or teens, sibling sets, or kids with special needs. Be aware, though, especially if you go for adoption through the foster care route, it's not always sunshine and rainbows--these kids have often been through hell, and everything is made more complicated by bio parent drama, a badly underfunded system, bureaucratic nonsense, and legal red tape. That being said--it's worth it at every step.

4

u/NotFundyJustHorny Aug 05 '21

I’m 54, nearly 55. I have 4 grown biological children and an adopted son who is 11, I got him when he was 8 months old. I am in the process of adopting again, a birth sibling to my son. I would advise you to start the process right away, you can always bow out gracefully if you decide it’s not for you but you can’t get time back.

50

u/onewinghoneybee Aug 05 '21

I was adopted too, not from China but in the US, and so were my two sisters. My parents also took care of foster kids when I was younger. I just love adoption so much and I love seeing wholesome stories about it.

45

u/lisa_is_chi Aug 05 '21

My two cousins were adopted, and I have an aunt who was adopted. Our family wouldn't be the same without them. ❤️

Also, I once heard a story of a young man who was adopted and would tease his sibling (who was a biological child) that their parents loved him more because he was especially chosen and the biological child was who they had to accept. LOL!

11

u/emmaruns402 Aug 05 '21

My sister who is adopted has said this her whole life! She’s 23 now and still mentions it. Perhaps she’s really actually insecure about being adopted or something and just keeps saying this to cope. In any case it doesn’t bother me. She and my brother were adopted when I was 4, she was 2.5, and my brother was 8 months. Life world not be the same without them!

3

u/lisa_is_chi Aug 05 '21

LOL I just thinks it's funny way to look at things! 😂 Not that your parents loved them more, but they were especially chosen. ❤️

As someone who adopted from China, I don’t think we saved anyone, she saved us. Just absolutely wonderful. And if anyone is contemplating adoption, I can tell you that you never think of them as your “adopted” child. They’re just your child. Making you proud, pissing you off, and loving you unconditionally until they’re about 12. :). I’m joking (kind of), my point is that they’re just your kid and it’s wonderful. But I do sincerely think they do more for us as parents than we do for them.

8

u/garyadams_cnla Aug 05 '21

Adoption is one of the best things you can do in life. Foster care, too.

Telling adopted children about how they came to you, and what is was like so they are comfortable with it and feel loved is very common. She has probably heard a similar story a million times, and is incorporating it into hers. My birth son used to talk about how He came from my tummy, but then got his mom all the time when he was little. It’s a normal part of the experience. She is very well spoken, but I think she is older than she looks, so I can see where it seems strange

I have never wanted kids but if I did have kids I hope they are just like this. Thank you for sharing, this was beautiful.

This girl sounds very educated, I am well older than her and I'm still not this grammatically sensical

u/juniali_ Aug 05 '21

I also love how she's using hand gestures to make the necessary details stand out. Like their ages.

That is so sweet. Mom and dad must feel so loved.

3

u/tristantwb Aug 05 '21

This was so innocent and pure and I'm crying happy tears wow

My dad was adopted along with 7 brothers and sisters. My grandfather was a saint. He had a farm, worked tirelessly on the railways and did the taxes for the orphanage. Him and his wife could have lived fairly wealthy but they took in all those kids instead. He now has a small chapel in what was his aged care home named after him.

She made sure Lily was included, that was of utmost importance to her.

Another reason I can't wait to foster and adopt!!!

My parents were different and kept sending me to kiddie lock ups instead of working on family issues. The nicest fucking kids I had ever met in my life were there and they were fostered- when they'd share their abuse with me, I knew even at 13+ that I wanted to show them they love I've felt from them in the times I've needed it most.

Plus I have no desire to see my own genes proliferate, and after watching kids for 17 years I learned pretty quick that I never want to live with a baby :)

Mean while my soon to be adopted son (7) says things like "I love you like farts" "haha I farted on you!" And "if you were a booger you'd be the biggest." (He does say he loves me too but mostly other gross things.)

Here I am for the downvotes. But hear me out first:

I volunteered in an adoption placement service (as it was called then) in India. These kids would do so much to please anyone it still makes me cry.

The whole of me understand this kid and wishes them the best so much.

But this video is still about a kid trying to please everyone.

I thank the person(s) that’s adopted them. You’re good people. But oh, this child is trying so hard to please when they should just be a child. Orphans. Life is messed up, man.

I love that this little girl is so invested in her sister. “And Lily too?” You gotta love them both. <3

u/KeyRageAlert Aug 06 '21

Goddamnit, now I want to adopt kids.

3

u/ch0ki0 Aug 06 '21

“When I saw you, my heart fell in love with you”…nope, not a man crying his eyes…nope not me…OHGODYESITSME!!! That is such a beautiful sentiment coming from such a beautiful soul.

u/PizarroTR Aug 06 '21

Where is the hug man! Damn hug her !

u/Mibidness Aug 06 '21

Touched my heart. I needed that. Beautiful loving child who is obviously loved dearly. Thank you mom and dad for making the world a better place!!

As an adopted person I know this child is saying what needs to be said. I wish her all the best of luck and a happy future but I know that she will never feel like she totally belongs anywhere. Good luck baby xx

Please don't get me wrong as I believe that this girl is super adorable and her expression is so cute and out of this world. But does it ever cross your mind even in the slightest way that she was "trained" by her foster house teachers so she would have a greater chance to be adopted?

That's interesting take

I always thought this video seemed so unnatural. Who knows though.
