I’ve got 4 game-baseballs from when I was a kid. One of which was handed to me when I was maybe 10 - and I remember all of it. Not the excitement of getting a game ball, but the legendary dude who gave it to me. He had long red hair, a full beard, his name was Rich, and he worked at a 7/11. He also had a little portable TV set he carried with him (this is mid-90’s), which I assumed at the time was because he loved to watch all the games! His eyes were also very red, but that’s probably because he was sleepy. Later in the game, I remember my dad asked him to “keep an eye on me and my brother” while he went to the bathroom. Wherever you are, Rich, I hope you’re doing well and I hope you won a bunch of cash on all those games. Thanks for looking after me for those 10 minutes 25 years ago, but most of all, thanks for the game-ball…I still have it!

Later in the game, I remember my dad asked him to “keep an eye on me and my brother” while he went to the bathroom.
I've been on reddit too long. I 100% expected the next sentence to be "And now I live with Rich. Wherever you are, dad, I hope you're doing well and I hope you had a good trip to the washroom."

u/straighttalkin64 Aug 09 '21
Hahaha. I mean, I won’t lie. Rich was super cool (and I had a great dad too). Either scenario would’ve worked just fine for me!

I'm from the UK and went to a game at the Dodgers Stadium. I was blown away by how friendly everyone was. We were bought 'rope', taught how to sing 'Take me out to the ball game' and had a wonderful time.

u/straighttalkin64 Aug 09 '21 edited Aug 09 '21
That’s great! I actually live in LA now (my wife is from LA). But, I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. The since demolished “Tiger Stadium” (where I met Rich) had a feel at least similar to Dodger Stadium. Dodger Stadium is definitely still a link to the past in terms of US baseball. Yea it’s old and the parking lot is a nightmare, but, it’s still fun!

A couple years ago, the company I work for had some visitors from the office in Brazil. We took them to a baseball game. They loved it and picked up the basic rules pretty quickly, but the one thing that confused them most was “take me out to the ball game.”
“Why do we sing this song?” “Why now? It would make more sense at half time” “Every team sings the same song? That’s silly!”

u/Zergmilran Aug 09 '21
The girl next to him? If that's his mom, she is insanely young lol.
12
u/DamnAlreadyTaken Aug 09 '21
I think mom is left, and I suspect the blonde at the right side is the gf.
So, my guy looks at said gf and fears the worse. He got handed the ball by another blond, in a split second there's that look to gf and the exit plan to get rid of that ball asap.
Down the thread other redditors have noticed the same.

Dark is on my list.
I started watching The Expanse when it was on television. Dropped it after news of the cancelation broke. Haven't gotten back to it yet. So many movies, games, shows, books. I'm inundated with media.
9
u/slowlanders Aug 09 '21
The Expanse is gonna end with season 6 which is a natural stopping point anyway. In the books there is a huge gap of time between book 6 and 7 so you could just read the final three books to get things wrapped up. The show is so worth it - it's too bad not enough people watched it so we could get all 9 seasons.
