I’ll celebrate with you. I just gave up booze exactly 4 days ago. A year seems a long ways away so you’re my goal!

Edit: you people are incredible. Thank you for the support!

One day at a time my friend. That's how to do it. If you wake up tomorrow wanting to have a drink, promise yourself to wait until tomorrow to decide. If the next day you feel the same way, reach out to someone that can talk you through it.

If a day is too long break it down to an hour or even a minute. Can I stay sober for an hour, if that is too hard just for a minute, than another minute until your have an hour. Congratulations you got this.

This works too, but imho if it's bad enough to have to do it like that then maybe they should seek an inpatient facility. It's nothing to be ashamed of for thinking that it's impossible to stay sober, but it's stressful enough to do all that is necessary to unpack the baggage behind whatever addiction someone is facing. If it's seeming too much to stay sober for another minute or hour, pick up the phone and make a call. If you're in recovery already, it means you've accepted that your vices were too much for you. There is nothing wrong with continuing to need the extra help from someone within the community. Hopefully, it doesn't come to that, but if it does that doesn't have to mean falling off the wagon. Stay safe. Stay clean. Stay positive

Thank you. It helped me get sober 31 years ago along with AA and a good sponsor. Never did inpatient treatment. 32 years on 9/12/2021. Everyone is different. Stay sober!

Well done my friend. Well done. Whatever it takes to make the dream of sober life stay a reality.

Same to you for sharing about 30+ years. That gives us "short timers" hope for our futures

Just remember nothing is so bad that a drink or drug will fix. One day at a time. 👍

I know. It took a while for that thought to drill itself into my head and past my self pity and it's why through multiple attempts at sobriety I ended up back in the bars. There is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel. I found my love and she will become my wife next year. Sobriety is good
