This. There was an r/AskReddit thread addressing ‘saddest sex worker stories’ awhile back that was the saddest thing you ever read. It was all old people hiring an escort just to have someone to talk to because their wife died and they had no one left, and lonely young men who just wanted someone to listen.
I've tried that. it always ends up with more people needing support than people giving it. I spend hours talking to them about their problems - which I in no way dislike, I think it's paramount to help people. It just hurt a whole lot when no one is interested in the reverse when I'm close to calling it a night.
It's natural that turns out to be the case. People NEED help and most are not able to lend it.
Oh, I was imagining already-existing interpersonal relationships. I know it’s tough as hell for adults to meet and find people with whom to develop close friendships. My response about women and men was more like- if women have one another to talk with, sisters or moms or bffs, I would hope men can do the same with their brothers or dads or buddies.

I have heard that escorts often are hired to just keep people company without any sex or intimacy at all.
