A shot of two widowed penguins appearing to comfort one another in Australia has been picked out as a winner in Oceanographic magazine's Ocean Photograph Awards.
The photo was taken by Tobias Baumgaertner in Melbourne.
"A volunteer approached me and told me that the white one was an elderly lady who had lost her partner and apparently so did the younger male to the left," Mr Baumgaertner
"Since then they meet regularly, comforting each other and standing together for hours watching the dancing lights of the nearby city."

Sent this to my wife because she loves penguins. I heard an audible “awwwwwwww” from the other room, lol.

So it's not a romantic advebture movie but one where the main characters help each other accept and deal with their losses while supporting each other as the friends they need and deserve

That's why penguins are my favorite animal. They have crazy emotions you can easily see.

This broke my heart into a thousand pieces but I'm also comforted by the fact that they have each other. Emotional rollercoaster.

So how do you work in the guy who works at the zoo just picking up penguins that fall over because of airplanes all day?

u/Zachwank Aug 16 '21
Is this actually real?

u/asumfuck Aug 17 '21
It's some random story that's been told by a few people that doesn't have any evidence that it regularly happens. Just some pictures from one event and some hear say. So probably not.

u/Zachwank Aug 17 '21
If you scroll down some people posted links with sources for this sooo I would say don’t be so quick to jump to conclusions
1
u/asumfuck Aug 17 '21
I saw them. They aren't reliable sources nor do they provide any evidence outside this picture, mention of a social media post and a story some guy who told some other guy that was then told to a guy with access to a website. Sooo I wouldn't be so quick to immediately believe everything I see and am told is true.

The story is crazy adorable. Without any citations though it's just a made up feel good story

Source basically says some guy posted the picture and story to their social media. Reading is a good way to find out if a source is genuine or anecdotal

The colony is monitored by volunteers.
"A volunteer approached me and told me that the white one was an elderly lady who had lost her partner and apparently so did the younger male to the left," Mr Baumgaertner wrote on Instagram.
Sure, we don't have to believe his instagram post, but I don't see why he'd lie about a volunteer telling him this. Maybe try reading yourself.

Again anecdotal. Maybe try understanding what proper citation means.
