We are here for you!! Some days the road is bumpier than others. I'm sure that we would be there for you even if a wheel slides off. So many here know the realities of sobriety and that is why we are soooo proud of you!!! Hugs from a mom.

Hugs from a mom.
Mom hugs are the best. They are healing, nurturing and comforting.

Everyone fights battles that others don't know about, everyone could use a boost every now and then. Watching someone else succeed is always a joy.

One day at a time.
My husband is about to achieve 14 years and something that has helped him is telling himself he can have a drink tomorrow.
So for example, if heโs really struggling today, he says, โI can have a drink tomorrow.โ When tomorrow comes, he repeats, โI can have a drink tomorrow.โ
This has helped him maintain the one day at a time mantra by only focusing on today.
I believe in you, and Iโm proud of you. Canโt wait to hear about you reaching day 30!

Just focus on one day at a time. The first year is huge. I actually spent my 21rst birthday in rehab. After awhile I lost track and learned I had actually picked up 2 36 yr chips. Instead of coming up on 37 as I keep telling people it's coming up on 38. Wow blink and your an old timer. I was 20 going on 21 and thought I was too young but I've pretty much done it all. I have 6 children, 5 in sobriety. My first gave me a reason to quit. I lost my 17 yr old son to T-Cell lymphoma in 2013 and he gave me a reason not to go back there. All. Thanks to my higher power who I choose to call God. With him anything is possible. On marriage #3. None between us but Happily married 11 1/2 years. He's never even tasted alcohol. I was also addicted to Ativan, a prescription drug. Quick smoking at 4 yrs and survived a 17 yr abusive marriage who gave me my last 4 kids. Just published my 2nd. Book. One to honor my son and one about Domestic Violence.

I have been trying to give a wholesome award but Redd it won't let me for what ever reason. Anyways, CONGRATS! Anytime I see anything like this I'm happy because it reminds me of my brother.
3
u/ppsshh21 Aug 16 '21
How have you been doing it? I respect your willpower.
5
u/WineJeans Aug 16 '21
Hasn't been easy and I got close to the goal a time before but relapsed :/
Main motivation and supporter has been my cat as silly as it sounds, love that little dude more than anything
2
u/ppsshh21 Aug 16 '21
Ah thatโs sweet about your cat. Animals can have a huge impact on people for real.
I donโt know the severity of what youโve been through but regardless I struggle with substances as many others do, so I can truly applaud your efforts and milestone of 1 year. Itโs absolutely difficult as some may not think.
Keep going man youโve really only got stuff to gain from it. Iโm trying my best with my struggles and am in a considerably better place now than I was a few years ago.
I aspire to be in your position someday :)

I only have a few weeks. Went hard for a long time. Just curious, does the brain fog ever go away?
4
u/WineJeans Aug 16 '21
For me atleast, it cleared up a lot after a month or two, but I still get an itch in the back of my head telling me to go back even though I love my life as it is now
2
u/No_Seaworthiness9212 Aug 16 '21

This might sound like a dumb question, but do you feel better mentally/physically? Iโm a month and a few days without alcohol and still feel kinda shitty and could use some reassurance (but also the truth). Congratulations on your progress :)

Iโm not sure in understanding how sober works. Does sober mean you can never drink alcohol even occasionally? Or how does it work. Or is only a thing when you have an addiction and decide to become sober and never drink again
