I got vaccinated even though I was SUPER nervous! My family is all antivax so it was a challenge but I’m really glad I did it!

Working an area with very low vaccination rates, I see these people every day. Most are reasonable if you sit down and talk to them. They’re victims of our politicians, news media, Russians, etc. It’s so sad that human lives are used as pawns for political power, especially when it’s Americans sacrificing other Americans.

As someone who works in the hospital- THANK YOU!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I hope you don’t have any side effects (I just felt kinda of “meh” for a few days) and that the second dose goes well too! YOU are making a difference by getting vaccinated!!!
48
u/CAMPE_DIEM166 23d ago
Thank you!! You’re so brave to be working in these hard times!! ❤️
17
u/schrist31 23d ago
Thank you for supporting us! Stay healthy! A bit of advice- drink lots of water when you go in for you 2nd dose. Like 2-3x what you normally drink for a few days before. I did that and it seemed to help! Also try to have your second dose on a day/week where you can take a few days off- the crappy feeling (if you have it) usually kicks in about 10-12 hrs after the shot. But that means the vaccine is working!!! If you have any questions feel free to reach out! I’m proud of you!
3
u/Nickyx13 23d ago
And don’t forget to take an Advil after the shot and take a nap.
3
u/schrist31 23d ago
Very true- but low dose NSAIDS- you want to have some immune response to the vaccine
3
u/SerendipitousElixir 23d ago
I’m supposed to be getting my second dose soon and I’m kinda nervous. I felt about absolutely awful for an entire week after I had the first one. I’m definitely going to try drinking a ton of water these next few days leading up to getting this next vaccine and hope that helps. Thanks so much for the tip!
3
u/Tam-Tae 23d ago
Well as far as I heard it’s like you feel crappy after your first OR second shot. Astra is more likely to make you sick the first time, Pfizer and Moderna get you sick after the second shot.
Having my second shot of Moderna just in two hours.. had no problems with the first..
2
u/SerendipitousElixir 23d ago
I really hope it is after the first OR second, and not both! I had the Pfizer and I’m telling you I felt awful. It was a week of fever, headache, body ache, nausea, and dizziness. I felt worse then than I did when I actually had covid!
But thank you for giving me hope that the second one might not be so bad!

u/DefiantBunny 23d ago
I felt fine after my first and mostly okay after my second. I was a little lightheaded for a couple minutes after my second one and my arm was really sore but I also hadn't eaten anything in a few hours at this point so I would definitely suggest making sure you eat. I second the comment suggesting lots and lots of water and try to take a day or two for yourself off work so you can just lie down if you don't feel great.
Good luck!
2
u/hopeful_wrongdoer_ 23d ago
I got vaccinated with Moderna and just felt a bit off after the second dose. Nothing out of the ordinary tho. My arm hurt like a mf but not as much as after the first dose. No need to be nervous! Make sure you eat, drink and rest! Just lay down and watch some movies!

As someone who’s studying to be in healthcare management and work the business side of healthcare thank you! The science is real and believe it or not we’ve been working on this specific vaccine since 2003. And mRNA vaccines since the late 1980s. You should read about the science behind it it’s super interesting!

I was super excited for my first dose too! Felt giddy all day! In my case, first dose has zero side effects and second dose just made me super tired for like 24-48 hours. Got some quality couch time in! You’ll do great!

Thank you all who are getting vaccinated! We have a child in the family who can't get vaccinated yet due to age, and a medically fragile (though vaccinated) elderly patent in an assisted living facility.

Wohoo, that's great, although you may feel a little under the weather for a day, keep hydrated and get plenty of rest, I got mine 2 days ago and felt a little rough but it's much better than the real thing so worth it.

u/Bellelace86 23d ago
Thank you!! You’re awesome. I go for my second shot this Friday. They said the second shot is the most challenging, but the first shot only gave me a searing migraine (Riboflavin quickly got rid of that) I say it depends on the person…I hope 😅 anywho, congrats on taking that leap, you will not regret it ♥️💕

I work in healthcare so I see the results of Covid directly. Not going to argue with anyone about it. Do what you want. I really just wanted to say that if you got the Pfizer vaccine the second dose could be rough. I was in horrible pain and had the chills and was miserable for about two days. Better than being on a vent though. Good job.

I got mine back in March before I was even eligible in my state but the neighboring state considered transit workers to be front line workers so I drove there to get it and I have no regrets. Not sure which one you got but the J&J one made me feel a bit off the next day. It didn't make me feel sick but it just made me feel lethargic and off. Another 24 hours later and I was back to normal.

Welcome to the club.
Although you’re not part of Moderna Master Race…
Jokes aside, it’s always good to hear of another person getting vaccinated. It’s weird this is even an issue in the first place.
2
u/CyborgMetrology 23d ago
agreed, moral panic is unhealthy. I got mine because I don't wanna die and I'm a mess already. Clickbait news media turns public health into eugenics... Master race jokes are 10/10, the eternal Germans must be mocked. If you believe every idea should be either verboten or mandatory, you're a/n (Kantian) eternal German.

Every single day there are 3-4 stories of anti Vax people died, aged 30-40, young babies etc just so sad. Even if there is something in this vaccine that will make us all ill in years to come, I think I’d rather deal with that or watever else comes with it than die young and leave my family

Welcome to our 5g-Bill Gates-mind control gang! jokes apart, I had a bad time with the second dose, two days with a lot of fever. I don't know how it's called internationally, but "Paracetamol" is the only thing that will keep it controlled...1gram every 8 hours if you have side effects and it'll be fine. But I'd do it again!

You might ask a teacher or another adult you trust (like maybe a friend’s parents or older sibling) to take you. I know it feels strange to go against your mother’s wishes, but you gotta do the right thing for you …. and her. If Covid comes across your path, belief is not going to stop it from infecting everyone you come into contact with. Depending on her age and risk factors, your choice to get vaccinated could save her life.

u/SqueezedCello 23d ago

Are you over 14? Over 14 can get medical care without family consent. I believe the vaccine is approved for 12 and up now?
Find your town’s health department Google “name of town health department “ and go there for free vaccines no parent required. Don’t tell your parent to reduce stress.

No matter what they say, just do it for you. People shouldn’t have to feel a sense of anxiety for their medical decisions or feel coerced to do something they aren’t comfortable with. Whether somebody decides to get it or not, that’s their decision and they did it for themselves, not for anybody else. You do you.
2
u/CAMPE_DIEM166 23d ago
My mom said she doesn’t believe I should have the right since I’m 16 :(
2
u/C_Gnarwin2021 23d ago
That’s a shame. In some instances, I understand the whole “you’re too young to decide” thing, but it seems that their decision to stop you from getting vaccinated is likely out of spite to the opposing political spectrum and not out of genuine concern for your health. Hope the best for you.
