I don’t see it but I take that as a compliment haha, I’m Canadian as well, so I got a soft spot for the guy.

*boards the train* Ditto. And if it weren't for the smirk...
Still, great job on losing weight. Losing weight is possibly the only goal you can set for yourself by running away from it.

Congratulations to you. Well done. You should be so proud!

You look much more content in the second picture, congratulations on all of your hard work, self reliance and preserverance!!!

u/shreddiesabsorbmilk 21d ago
Yah I do eh ! I lost a girl right around when that 1st photo was taken, I really enjoyed being with her but due to the weight getting out of control, I was a drinker, depressed generally not taking care of myself, and she left me understandably. Just one day finally said fuck it and it stuck with it, feels so good. My mental health has never been better ! I really appreciate the kind words !

u/WatermelonSugar47 21d ago
Seriously, good for you for identifying the issues and working to correct them. Honestly happy for you dude. Keep up the growth!!

u/qlz19 21d ago
Can you tell me what it was you stick with? Whatever you been doing differently?
4
u/shreddiesabsorbmilk 21d ago
Very strict calorie counting, usually 1200 per day. 30 min to 1 hour of stretching daily , that’s all I did.
3
u/qlz19 21d ago
Holy crap! 1200 calories a day?!?! I’d love to know more about that diet.
1
u/shreddiesabsorbmilk 21d ago
Meal Replacement shakes were a huge huge help for me keeping it at 1200, some days I went up 1500 if I was feeling a little weaker for whatever reason.
3
u/Hefty_Imagination_55 21d ago
If you don't stop doing that Seth Rogen smirk, I'm going to enroll you in the Cake of the Month club.
3
u/Goowatchi 21d ago
I wouldn’t tag it as small success, you epitomize an immense amount of hard work, dedication and willpower!
3
u/MiraculousDrFaith 21d ago
You are the fucking shit. It took me jail time to lose that kinda weight and you did it with responsibilities. I am so proud of you
3
u/sluttypidge 21d ago
Look at that self-discipline you've created within yourself. At this point you can do anything because you've already done one of the hardest things to stay disciplined over.
I'm so proud of you!
3
u/shreddiesabsorbmilk 21d ago
After tackling alcoholism (and kicking it’s butt) losing weight seemed so much easier haha, had to learn a lot of self discipline in recovery.

u/ll_cool_ddd 21d ago

4
u/shreddiesabsorbmilk 21d ago
1200 calories per day, 30 minutes - 1 hour of stretching.
All I did!
2
u/moonbearsun 21d ago
Wow, that's really interesting! What made you focus on stretching? Joint mobility?
2
u/shreddiesabsorbmilk 21d ago
I have some neuromuscular disorders that cause my joints and muscles to CONSTANTLY hurt. Stretching really helped with pain, I figured it was the easiest exercise for a guy my size and it worked out haha .
1
u/moonbearsun 21d ago
That makes a lot of sense—and I'm so sorry you have to deal with regular pain. I had big problems with leg pain (I was limping for a year or so) that turned out to be related to hip pain that my physical therapist figured out leg lifts relieved. If you haven't tried leg lifts/clamshells yet, they've been sooo helpful for easing hip pain and increasing mobility. Even if you feel like Jane Fonda, lol.
1
u/ShelZuuz 21d ago
Is this the first time you lost a significant amount of weight?
I also have over 150 to drop, but if I eat 1200 calories per day I will gain weight. I need to be under 800 calories per day to lose anything. (Lost over 100 lbs twice before so now my metabolism is completely screwed up).
1
u/shreddiesabsorbmilk 21d ago
It is my 1st time yes, but I’ve done it over 2 years so its been a lifestyle change instead of just a diet, (do you have Hashimotos disease? I only ask because I am diagnosed with it, and it affects my metabolism.
But yah this is the lightest I’ve been

Could you share what you did with everyone on the post? I’m starting down this road myself. Thanks and congrats!
3
u/shreddiesabsorbmilk 21d ago
I wish I had a great inspirational story and regime.
But all I did was track my calories (1200-1500) per day.
30 minutes to 1 hour of stretching
Meal replacement shakes were used alot as well!
That’s it lol. I’m so sorry I can’t be more help, but if you have any specific questions I’ll do my best to help you out! Best luck on your journey , and if you ever need to talk about it (because it is hard) feel free to pm me anytime!
1
u/slicktromboner21 21d ago
No, that’s great. I’m glad you have a really simple approach and that it works for you and that you shared it with me.
I lost around 85 pounds on a medically managed plan at 960 calories/day over four months, but the support on the other side was lacking and I gained it back. It was a real bitch at first to adhere to the diet, but became pretty ordinary as time went on. I think it became so comfortable that I didn’t know how to handle eating real food and meal planning on the other end.
I do think that it took a fair amount of muscle/strength and I think I’d like to start there with a more reasonable meal plan and weight training routine.
What are the next steps for you to maintain the loss?

To make such a transformation in your life took more than just hard work and sweat and sacrifice; it took personal strength, resilience, dedication, motivation and discipline. Congratulations on finding worth in yourself worth fighting for my friend, that’s inspirational. All I want to quietly add is that, you were worthy of love and care before your journey began just as much as you are now

Wow! Good for you. Massive success.
About 10 years ago I was obese 2. When I got to obese I was so happy. When I got to over weight, that was a massive achievement. I’m close to a normal weight, within ten pounds.
Let me tell you. I quit smoking cold turkey after 15 years. I mastered the violin. I work in an extremely meticulous field that involves constant study. The hardest thing I have ever done, is lose weight.

That’s all >< sorry it’s not more interesting haha

u/usuallyaaron 21d ago
CONGRATULATIONS! I mean, seriously.. as someone who is in the middle of that range (~380lb) and has been up and down from 420 to 320 over the last couple of years, you have achieved no mean feat!
Read through the comments to find out what your secret is hoping it was something I could borrow but.. 1200cal a day, and you kept that up for two years? I target 1900cal at the moment and I'm lucky if I can stick to that for two *weeks*!
2
u/shreddiesabsorbmilk 21d ago
Thank you so much! And Correct ! Still keeping it up! 2 years later, I just had to push through the first 30 days I found were the hardest, I was hungry ALL the time, but the hunger just sorta of started to fade, I also would chug a huge glass of water before I ate anything to fill myself up if I was hungry. I used meal replacement shakes. ALOT, and lots of supplements.
And cheat days, when you are losing weight; for me y gotta have them to have it work, I had to have something every once in awhile, so like once a month or so I’d have a cheat day, nothing wild but I’d snag a bag of my fav chips, a pop and a burger ya know, smack it down. And the next day right back to it ! Really the biggest thing in weight loss is determination, how badly do I want to be healthy.
Well I wanna be healthy pretty damn bad lol so I’m gonna do everything I can in my power to achieve that health.

u/usuallyaaron 21d ago
Well I wanna be healthy pretty damn bad lol so I’m gonna do everything I can in my power to achieve that health.
You're well on your way and doing absolutely fantastically - I have no doubt you'll reach your goal :)
On the subject of cheat days - I found ours (my OH and I are both 'on the wagon') went from one a month, to one a week, to "Oh we had one on Monday but Tuesday is our regular day so let's have another" with alarming ease..
Weirdly, I found that when we first started (2+ years ago we joined Slimming World before calorie counting the last six months or so) we had no problem sticking to it, even without cheat days; I guess it was new and exciting, we were having fun cooking new things in new ways. Now the "new" has worn off, continually figuring out what we're eating gets tiring vs the ease of eating, well, whatever we want.
But.. I don't want to look like a fat blob in my suit next year at our wedding, so I need to do something to get in shape. I mean, I know round is a shape, but...
1
u/shreddiesabsorbmilk 21d ago
Yah weight loss is hard as hell, I’m a 4 year recovered/recovering alcoholic and losing weight was and is harder for me personally, I trust you will get to your goal weight, either way whatever happens with weight you gonna look amazing at the wedding !
Have you tried that method of just thinking of food as fuel and that’s it, don’t look for a new and exciting thing too eat, use something like meal replacement shakes, tons of albeit added nutrition and anywhere from 200-300 calories per drink, but they fill you up, without gaining weight, eat the bare minimum cause it is super super easy to have that cheat day, then another, etc (eat enough that you safely can, consult with a doctor to find out where you should be calorie wise per day safely) and I strongly suggest going for blood work every 3 months to make sure your vitamins and blood works all ok.
I know that was kinda rambling I just woke up, but maybe something in that can help ya just a little ?!

What change did you make ? What do you eat when you have munchies ?
2
u/shreddiesabsorbmilk 21d ago
1200 calories a day
30-60 minutes exercise
A cheat day when you have made a goal!
And for munchies, I keep sugar free gum around, popcorn is a good cheap low cal snack, carrots kinda satisfy chip cravings. Munchies were 1 thing I had to keep in check, calories add up SO fast when you are snacking or munching away.
