Thats sweet. A simple gesture can make a huge difference

u/megaloduh 21d ago
Exactly! This wasn't one of my favorite weeks ever so it was really cool for me that she remembers me. They're always slammed at this Dutch Bros so I'm always extra nice when I go over there.

Nope, it's Dutch bros they do that to everyone. I've gotten it before and no one wants me.
162
u/megaloduh 20d ago
Dang this was the first time they did this for me and I go there all the time. I guess I'm extra terrible looking or something...
28
u/darkknight95sm 20d ago
It’s something they do when they get to know you after you’ve become a regular, I’ve gone there for over 10 years now and my sister used to work there. I’ve gotten these many times by baristas I’ve gotten to know a little, many <3 too but never a xoxo I don’t think. I really enjoy it and almost never fails to put a smile on my face but my recommendation is to not look too much into it, they’re doing a job and they’re encouraged to do things like this.

13
u/darkknight95sm 20d ago
I’ve gotten many ❤️ but never a xoxo, to my knowledge. I don’t know, they’re doing a job and they are encouraged to do things like this and usually means nothing. My sister used to work for them

u/SyrisThane 20d ago
As a Dutch brothers employee I don’t do this for everyone. They do appreciate you and regulars turn a meh day into a great day every time. Thank you for coming through one of our stands!
4
u/megaloduh 20d ago
Thank you for being a dope barista! Like I said a couple times here, this is always the busiest stand around me because it's in a really good location. I always try to talk to the people ringing me up or making my drinks. It's free to be nice haha
74
u/Redditors_R_Tards 20d ago
Nah man don't let that take the wind out if your sails. They don't do it for literally everyone. She picked you for a reason. I say you give her your number and go for it!
57
u/PhilosoFinger 20d ago
As someone who works at Dutch Bros coffee, it can be the most uncomfortable experience to have customers hit on you or try to give you their number. Most people don't understand a difference between friendliness and flirting, and getting hit on in your work environment isn't as great as you'd imagine.
4
u/warpol 20d ago
I mean I understand that friendliness being reciprocated by people trying to hit on a barista is bad. But I don't think it's victim blaming to say don't put a heart and xoxo on a customer's cup if you don't want that to be a likely outcome. Unless you're a family member or close friend etc they're generally seen as symbols of attraction.
3
u/mantecbear 20d ago
Don’t you think adding an xoxo and a heart makes it awkward for the customer? It’s a two way street. If I give someone a cup with xoxo which literally means hugs and kisses and a heart, I am clearly stating something.
→ More replies26
u/Redditors_R_Tards 20d ago
Hitting on someone and giving them your number and saying "if you'd like, please give me a call sometime. Have a great day!" are not the same things. But I guess in today's day the way younger people are it would absolutely not surprise me that some people look at giving a phone number as "hitting on someone" or even sexual harassment.
13
u/HotSauceHigh 20d ago
Yeah, this is why people don't talk in public anymore and the only way to meet people is apps.
4
u/Sweaty_Examination52 20d ago
I work for Dutch Bros, and its not necessarily true, we don’t do it to everyone. We 100% have favorite regulars… and least favorites

That person is just being a hater. The heart and the xoxo makes is so obvi. Nobody just adds an xoxo and a heart if they’re not trying to flirt.

Hmm they’re opening one of these by my house. I saw the sign for the first time today. Then I read this. Weird. Anyway I’ve never of heard of the place but I’ll have to check them out.

u/Redditors_R_Tards 20d ago
It's actually a cool spot with a cult following, they have a great mission statement and culture. It's just funny because they're whole shtick is to treat you like you are the coolest, funniest most awesome person alive. Like a stripper but no nudity and sugary drinks.

So funny story. Years ago my grandpa went through a stand and the worker goes “hey hows it going what are you guys up to today?” Without missing a beat my grandpa went “none of your damn business give me a black coffee” I swear that poor kid turned pure white and just said “okay sir” haha!
Anyway it’s a big part of Dutch bro’s culture to provide a friendly welcoming environment they understand that’s not for some but they try really hard to hire that personality and someone who wants to be genuine. One thing the owner of the company really preached when I was there was Dutch bro’s is in the people business not coffee and if that’s not what you want to be apart of you can always get off the bus at the next stop. The bus is still gonna keep going on it’s route and that’s fine if you don’t wanna be on it you can join another bus. He didn’t say that in a negative way but a way to help you find where you wanted to be. I think that can also be represented to its stands too. If you don’t want a happy smile and welcome in the morning that’s fine there’s other coffee spots to snag a quick cup and just a hello but Dutch bro’s won’t change what they do.
4
u/jau682 20d ago
To be honest I love this so much. For me getting coffee is a whole ritual. I'm there for my drugs. I want the caffeine and the sugar. Yeah I'm excited, I'm happy, and to have my drug dealer be high energy like that too just makes the experience that much better. I would still get coffee if there was no dutch bros, but it's so nice to have a good experience every time.
5
u/idfktbhhh 20d ago
I appreciate you talking about coffee for what it is, even if In a joking way. A lot of people shit on others with addictions/habits just because theirs is taboo. But a caffeine addict is hip, silly and hard working hehe just some jitters today!

Lmao do we have the same grandpa? 😂
in December I put a happy 50th wedding anniversary sign in my grandparents yard when I dropped off their gift, and my grandpa was standing in the drive way talking to me in my car until a neighbor who can’t read drove by waving and said “happy birthday!” And my grandpa was instantly like “im going back inside before any more weirdo neighbors try to talk to me” 😂😂😂

I also feel like every Dutch barista has that same handwriting… do they hire people specifically for that handwriting or do they teach you it after you get hired??? Regardless, it’s sweet that the barista wrote that :)

74
u/megaloduh 20d ago
It's really funny because most people automatically assumed that I'm a man and the barista was flirting with me😂😂😂 I think this is just part of coffee stand culture where I'm at. A lot of us around here work in the service industry and rely on our local coffee stands pretty heavily. I'm sure all the barista have favorite customers haha
16
u/bebe-bobo-baba 20d ago
I guess people try to live there fantasies through others. And yeah I think it’s nice when barista/waiters genuinely talks and smiles at you. They’re human too come on😂 although i would def try to see if there is friendship potential here 👀
6
u/Jibblebee 20d ago
I assumed the writing was a woman’s hitting on a man. If that’s not the case, it’s a woman hitting on a woman. If that’s not the case, you must be really really nice.

I believe you should ask if said barista would care to join you for a beverage of their choosing. Just saying I am pretty slow on the hints sometimes but that’s seems pretty flirty to me.

Thank you for explaining that. So many people here self-inserted themselves into your story as a dude getting hit on by a cute barista. i’m surprised how many people think this is flirting.
or shoot…. maybe i am just really bad at picking up hints.
but this is awesome. with or without a message like this, having a great relationship with someone working in a service field that you see regularly is seeing a friend regularly, and makes it worth it.
16
u/megaloduh 20d ago
I legit am always happy to see this girl. Everyone at Dutch Bros is always vibing honestly which is why I always go there.

u/kainmcleod 20d ago edited 20d ago
still haven’t been to dutch bros, but something like 3 popped up in my area/county in the past… year? two years? COVID-time-loss. but yeah, i only hear good things and the lines were horrendous for the longest time, so they must have something going for them.
EDIT: i had to wiki them, had no idea they had 400+ locations and were across states. i thought they were a PNW thing.
2
u/ForestMage5 20d ago
Because X = kiss and O = hug. That’s not normal even for regular or favorite customers.
Don’t get me wrong, love the act and story. But X’s and O’s indicate something more lurking.

I’m finally in a small(ish) town I love and becoming a regular at a few favorite places. I can honestly say I have never before appreciated how much the personalities of staff can make a place unique. I am fortunate to live in a place where the food/view/etc is amazing at so many places but I can honestly say the places I keep coming back to have the most personable staff.
you want to go where everyone knows your name (sorry I’m high and I’ve always wanted to say that)
5
u/megaloduh 20d ago
This is so true though. When I lived in a smaller town there was no Dutch Bros. But near my house was a small coffee stand called Rally. This was before Covid so I would bring my own thermos. They would fill the whole thing, like 32oz with this dark chocolate mocha with orange zest for like $4. I went there way too much with my roommate and eventually the baristas all knew us and vice versa and they would just know which color thermos of ours got which drink when we pulled up together.

Dutch Brothers.
When I took my dog to the vet to cross the rainbow bridge, they gave him a HUGE Pupperchino, and all the kids came up to the window and petted him. One of the nicest things someone's ever done for me. I love that place.

Before our DB opened, my husband and son (3 1/2 at the time) happened to be walking by as they were training. A couple of the employees called out to them through the drive through window and offered to make them drinks. My son was their first unofficial customer and a couple of the broistas still remember that and mention it to him. DB is awesome.
