Do need a GPU for a plex server Help

Hello There,

I'm gonna install a plex server on my home server, Is a GPU recommended to stream video and movies? If so, please let me know in what cases I would need it in?

EDIT: this is a 2u rackmount server system from a data center originally

Thank you in advance

Download 264 instead of 265 and you can skip the transcoding and just direct stream. Used to run my server from a potato and I got into the habit of always downloading 264s.

I do. Transcoding still happened. Maybe people were converting down the quality. I got tired of telling them over and over and lagging my whole server. I use Apple TV and it plays most files in Direct Play. Some files are muted for some reason. Maybe because of a certain audio codec. Other devices have issues.

Yup, I only aquire x265 if it is the ONLY option, I would literally rather use 720p x264 than any x265
