Parks and Rec made these things look absolutely sane compared to some videos I see of real town hall meetings.

That’s exactly what this is, sadly

It's nuts - it took me the longest time to actually enjoy Parks N' Rec cause I didn't like how exaggerated the stupidity of the town was, and now just 🙄

I had a small stint in local politics and I can assure you people are every bit as stupid as that.

What do local politicians do in these scenarios? I’m assuming they just let people vent while smiling and nodding.

Pretty much. The problem however is the dumbest members of your community tend to be the most vocal and unrelenting.

I don't know who on the writing staff of that show has worked in municipal government, but they absolutely nailed it. Every city/county worker I know has been able to point out which coworkers remind them of who. And yes, the city council meetings are spot on.

“Excuse me, sir, there is a sign in Ramsett Park that says ‘do not drink the sprinkler water,’ so I made some tea with it and now I have an infection.”

If only this was as innocent as parks and rec

The "I'm worried about the turtle flu!" guy is downright reasonable and prudent compared to these yokels.

They should just call the mask O2FLOW and they will start wearing it.

Seriously, I'm currently watching Parks and recs for the first time, I never thought that this could be true in real life.

Man... And to think I used to watch that show thinking "my god, I'm glad we don't live in a world that fucking dumb."

Not that I didn't know people are dumb, but I didn't know people were THAT fucking dumb.

I hate knowing that. I want to go back.
