It gets worse:

The latest of what Texas police officials are now admitting is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/bestof/comments/uyhmsh/uinconvenientnews_discusses_the_uvalde_police/ia99rsa/

A mom of two children at Uvalde was put in handcuffs after urging police and law enforcement to enter the school.

Once freed from her cuffs, she jumped the school fence, ran inside and sprinted out with her kids.

Cops stood outside the school while the killer rampaged inside.

Onlookers yelled at them to go in. They didn’t.

"One parent urged bystanders: “Let’s just rush in because the cops aren’t doing anything like they are supposed to.”

"that parent’s daughter died in the attack while he was begging cops to save the kids."

My God.

additional kid died directly because the cops were incompetent. “When the cops came, the cop said: 'Yell if you need help!' And one of the persons in my class said 'help.'

The [shooter] overheard and he came in and shot her," the boy said.

https://www.kens5.com/article/news/special-reports/uvalde-school-shooting/its-time-to-die-fourth-grade-survivor-uvalde-shooting-recalls-what-gunman-told-student/273-51cc4e26-7a0a-49c0-ba7a-48cdd47fa235 https://twitter.com/paleofuture/status/1529708434995683329

The Uvalde shooter was killed by a federal officer because the other police officers kept waiting for more and more backup

"Cops will only do their job when the public stops criticizing them for murdering unarmed people."

@JackPosobiec I'm not defending the actions of the officers. But we've demonized law enforcement to the point that there are far fewer rewards for being a hero

Uvalde is a town of just 16,000 people. But it apparently has a SWAT team.

We’re regularly told small towns need SWAT teams so they can quickly respond to events just like this. The killer was in the building for an hour.

Photo op of SWAT team: https://twitter.com/radleybalko/status/1529679652154920960

The school district for Robb Elementary has its own police department with 5 cops and 1 security guard. The city of Uvalde's police department recieved just under 40% of the entire city's budget for the year and got a 500k grant from the state. Neither stopped today's massacre.

More kids have died from going to school than cops have from going to work

cops whine and bitch about risking their lives to defend people, and when a shooter shows up in what looks like (but isn't) body armor, they run & hide while a massacre unfolds. an unarmed teacher was brave enough to try.

There’s a common mythology in law enforcement, pushed by quack groups like the Force Science Institute, that police ofticers’ memories improve over time. It contradicts all the scientific research and, oddly, apparently does not apply to non-police.

Police lied about the timeline.

They lied about shooter having body armor.

They lied about him being barricaded.

They lied about border patrol on-scene.

They went in and got their own kids.

The armed resource officer failed.

Local PD/DPS/tactical PD waited for SWAT.

Now the police are investigating themselves to tell us whether letting the school shooter in for an hour while keeping parents from saving their own children’s lives was a policy violation.

One of the greatest culture shocks when I arrived in the U.S. was the blind veneration of police. After years and years of living here and reading about this country, I now realize that it's the structural pillar of white supremacy.

This is a much bigger problem in America than we realize because Republicans use "thank our heroes" conservative culture wars "guns and gays" politics and "control the narrative" tactics, the police department control of local news dependent for access, the camera footage evidence (getting caught deleting camera footage again or released after 3 years or released immediately if it helps police), the "law and order" politicians, the arrests ("black and white Americans use cannabis at similar levels" but black Americans are 800% more likely to get punished for it and even after legalization), the statistics themselves (see how the police stop better crime statistics "FBI may shut down police use-of-force database due to lack of police participation or how they block their own domestic violence research showing "400% higher in the law-enforcement community")

More examples from r/Bad_Cop_No_Donut:

Even though LA is one of the safest cities in America (chart of national crime data): 67 full-time police employees just to push negative talking points on Fox News about a city they don't even live in but "serve"

The LAPD and LA Sheriff together have 67 full-time employees working on PR and propaganda. People don't realize that they spend a lot of money and time to plant these stories:

I want effective law enforcement

I wish I were able to talk about the racism, violence, ineptitude, & outrageous cost of policing w/o ridiculous accusations of being “anti-police.” I’m anti-failure, anti-waste, anti-violence, anti-racism. And I want solutions to achieve public health & safety. That’s it.

We spend more on policing, prosecutions, & prisons than any other society in the history of the word & yet since 2009, we have had 273 mass shootings, 1526 people shot & killed, & 980 people shot & wounded. “American exceptionalism.” https://everytownresearch.org/maps/mass-shootings-in-america/

Every time police arrest a white mass shooter alive & w/o shooting is an another powerful reason to reject the police “they-were-armed” justification and narrative after killing a Black person.

I remember coming home from work and turning on the tv just as the Columbine shooting was unfolding. The cops all gathered in a tight group and then started this slow shuffle where they move their foot 6 inches at a time. They were not close to the school at all. It must have taken them 20 minutes to get to the door. In the meantime you could hear shots being fired inside.

u/lawyerslawyer May 26 '22

Columbine marked a major shift in training for mass shootings. Rather than secure the perimeter etc. the training is now to move as quickly as possible to the sound of gunfire to engage the shooter immediately. This is... Not that.

u/RevengencerAlf May 26 '22

Parkland wasn't that either (and a few in between). That "training" was never adopted. Cops through all their hardaasa "our lives are on the line" bullshitting generally tend to be cowards when they have time to back down against a real threat.

The Columbine Shooting led to a lot of changes in the way police are SUPPOSED to respond to these incidents. It was a wake up call that negotiation, encirclement, securing the scene, etc. meant less than rapid, active engagement of the suspect during active shooter events.

Statistics show that actively engaging the suspect almost always ends the event via gunshots inflicted by police, suicide or surrender.

u/Important-Address-75 May 26 '22

Instead of waiting for the shooter to tire or run out of ammo? That gun needs to enjoy it’s last day in the sunlight.

Both of the shooters were long dead (12:08pm) before they cleared the school and got all the kids out. SWAT didn't enter the school until 1:38pm (a full two hours after the shooting started - 11:19am). Dave Sanders did more for those kids than any of the police that day.

u/[deleted] May 26 '22

I've watched the videos from inside the school. The killers were practically taking breaks in between the killings and couldn't believe how long their shooting spree was lasting.

u/JustinTime4242 May 26 '22

They were also bored and disappointed their bombs didn’t go off. That was supposed to be their coup de grace. Then they went to the library because the whole “plan” was botched.

u/[deleted] May 26 '22 edited May 26 '22

And killed a hysterical female student before finally killing themselves. She would definitely be alive today if the police entered the building. Edit: They actually killed 2 students in the library. They told one that they wouldn't kill him seconds before killing him. They were some sick mo-fos.

u/Sameiimo May 26 '22 All-Seeing Upvote This

This is what happens when you militarise a group of cowards who receive barely any training and the best work they can do is shoot unarmed people trying to not be killed by them. They're all power hungry cowards who don't have the balls to actually do their jobs.

u/Mad_Murdock_0311 May 26 '22 Silver Wholesome All-Seeing Upvote Take My Energy

Thing is, in the military, you live with and train with your fellow Marines/soldiers/sailors 24/7. You build a camaraderie with them. They become family. Even the guys you don't like, are still family. You get to a point where you'll willingly sacrifice your life to save any one of them. And when I say train, I mean train near every day for years. When you're surrounded by those men, you'll have the courage to do some crazy, life risking shit.

The police don't train at all. They're just a bunch of fat losers that never amounted to anything after high school. They're the bullies who pushed you around, and beat on the weaker kids. They have no courage, no honor, no love for their fellow man. They just want power over people. They're cowards, by and large.

This feels like like this is the real argument we should be having.

I can understand a police officer doesn't want to die. No one wants to go out in a blaze of glory they are not going to be able to walk away from. There can even be an argument made that they tried and failed to storm the building. Those are people that do feel fear for their life on a daily basis.

But when all this stuff that is daily used to enforce the idea that we are the threat and they need this protection. They need these no-knock raids, they need these tactile drones, they need the next Ass Breaker 3000, and it does nothing when there is a threat. What the hell are we funding if not LARPing?

u/AggressiveService485 May 26 '22 edited May 26 '22

Not to wind up on the I am very badass subreddit, but I was in an Infantry unit that deployed to Afghanistan. Maybe it’s a different mentality than law enforcement, but not wanting to die seems like a cowardly, albeit legitimate stance to take if you’re in a life or death, combat situation. Just make sure you’re ready to turn in your badge and gun afterwards.

u/kendie2 May 26 '22

u/Goalie_deacon May 26 '22

This is so upsetting. There's no way I wouldn't rush the cops to get in. I would rather go to jail, injured, than let my kid believe I didn't try. If I get killed by the shooter, better me than another kid.

u/Lereas May 26 '22

You can see two people on the ground that tried that and were stopped by the cops. Because stopping parents with tasers was more important than stopping an active shooter in an elementary school.

→ More replies

u/nanny6165 May 26 '22

I don’t even have kids but would rush past the cops to try to do something. It’s not even about trying to stop the shooter but about trying to get the uninjured kids out of the building and giving first aid to the injured kids. We will never know how many of the dead died because of the time it took to get care.

u/peterhorse13 May 26 '22

I think this here is what bothers me the most. In a hostage situation, sure, I can understand restraint. And if they knew all of those children were dead and he was holding the adjacent class hostage, maybe I can see that too. But they didn’t know how many were dead or just injured. They didn’t know if or when he would start killing the remaining students. I feel like restraint and strategizing would have been the absolute worst decision in a case like this. And now we’ll never know how many children could have been saved if they had breached the door even 20 minutes earlier.

It didn’t quite happen that way. That seems to have been misreported.

There were four Border Patrol agents, members of elite specialized units, who engaged and stopped the elementary school shooter, along with state and local officers, a Customs and Border Protection official told ABC News.

One agent, who was part of the Border Patrol Tactical Unit, or BORTAC, held a shield as the group pushed toward the gunman's incoming fire, the official said.

Two BORTAC agents discharged their weapons along with one member of the Border Patrol's Search, Trauma and Rescue unit -- all part of the group of four.

At least one BORTAC agent shot the gunman, although it's unclear who among them killed him, the official said.

Jesus. Took an off duty federal agent to do the job. While local law enforcement was pursuing him the whole time.

They seriously need a no holds barred federal investigation, especially since it took the feds to respond.

EDIT: After some research I realized this doesn’t represent the actual picture and more details are needed before we know what actually happened. Based off of the most complete timelines I could find from news articles here a condensed version:

Timeline of events

1121 Ramos texts girl in Germany that he had killed his Grandmom and is going to shoot up an elementary school.

Grandmom survives, rushes to neighbors house and calls the cops. She’s still in critical condition.

1130 The shooter crashes car at Rob Elementary. Resident sees crash and calls 911, noting that the driver has a rifle.

Shooter fires on two bystanders

The shooter wearing body armor tactical vest, engages with a school district police officer, wounding the officer EDIT: this detail has changed. According to Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman Chris Olivarez reported by CNN, "A school resource officer who was on the scene was armed, but it was unclear if the officer fired or what he did in response to the suspect's entry, Olivarez said."

Shooter enters school through unlocked door pursued immediately by cops according to Olivarez.

WP reports conflicting accounts when shooting began, whether closer to 1130 or 1200.

1143 the school announces on FB that they are in lockdown.

1153 on public transmission used by EMS someone reports police request response to the area. As response was discussed on official is noted saying “Please, just stay back.”

Border patrol and other units start to appear on scene

1210 FB livestream shows police perimeter, helicopters, and onlookers outside.

1217 School announces on social media “an active shooter at Robb Elementary.”

1252 Shots were still being heard at 12:52 p.m., according to radio recordings. “Do not attempt to get closer,” a voice warned on the EMS channel.

From the Washington Post:

“After hearing gunfire, authorities said, a tactical team formed a “stack” formation and eventually breached the classroom door and killed Ramos in a shootout. Ramos was in the room for some time before police officers entered, and it was unclear whether he killed the students when he first barricaded himself inside or just before the police breached the room.”

1:06 Uvalde Police announce on social media attack is over

That's not fair. They also:

  • Steal money and personal property

  • Beat/murder homeless people and others who live or look different than they do

  • Murder women who call 911 for help

  • Beat their wives/children

  • Beat other peoples' wives/children

  • Storm the US Capitol to try to murder elected officials in order to keep Donald Trump in office

  • Spread QAnon and other far-right conspiracy theories, and protect far-right terrorists and cultists

  • Chuck flashbang grenades into infants' cribs after raiding the wrong address, permanently disfiguring them, and then refuse to punish the officer or even cover the medical bill, and blame the parents.

  • Raid and destroy (or sometimes, burn down) the wrong house, then refuse to pay for damages

  • Harass people who try to report their crimes

  • Harass the victims of other crimes

  • Rape women and girls, and sometimes arrest them afterwards (see undercover police soliciting sex workers, having sex with them, then arresting them for it - all with the full blessing of the police department)

  • Stalk and trade pictures of rape victims, trafficking victims, sex workers, and other vulnerable members of society

  • Kill your pets

  • Cover up other cops' crimes

  • Drive drunk

  • ...and so much more.

Finland had two school shootings within two years, killing 10+1 and 8+1.

After these, the Finnish have put a lot of effort in not only making gun laws more strict, but also in training every police officer for these situations.

The Number One rule: the first police patrol(s) on site will rush the school. No waiting for a local SWAT (Karhu) or doing briefings and making a strategy. Idea here is that an active shooter will not stop until stopped and every second can mean a new victim.

Same in Sweden, and it actually worked when a man roamed a school and killed a student and two staff with a sword.

Isn't this similar to what happened in Florida, where the cop stayed in his car?

u/Gelato_Mulatto May 26 '22

Yes, but worse. That was one cop and this is seemingly half of the department. And that Parkland cop didn’t tackle and pin any parents to the ground or threaten them with tasers.

“A good guy with a gun would have prevented this”

The “good guys” with guns, paid for by a lion’s share of that city’s annual budget couldn’t be bothered to prevent this or even move swiftly to neutralize this. Disgraceful.

I had to use the find tool to see my local high school on here, and sure enough it is on here. That makes me feel sick
