This is where I am with the cybertruck however could easily be swayed to the Rivian as it has some aspects I prefer. I ended up buying another vehicle since there’s no real eta on either but at least we see Rivians all over the place being tested as opposed to the single cybertruck, that said Tesla has over a million cars on the road and charging infrastructure. In the end it’s probably for the best as I don’t much want the initial launch vehicles, would rather take the 2nd batch after kinks are worked out.
Once you start seeing reports of the mega cast at Giga Texas, then you can assume VOLUME production is a likely year out from that point. So I'm betting 2023 before we actually see them in customer's hands because it's Tesla and they're notorious for delays.
That actually makes a lot of sense. I've never been totally on board with the Cybertruck just due to the aesthetics, but my nerd side is really interested to learn more about their design & process as they make it a real vehicle.
I just don't see how the Cybertruck is going to get regulator approval. That thing is just made steel sheets, there's no crumple anywhere. It's going to be so solid I'm not convinced it can absorb an impact to protect it's passengers or especially to protect others like pedestrians and cyclists.
