Why is the narrative of the coming election focused on age instead of policy? Meta

Is the age of a candidate more important than their policies? Bernie Sanders is old as the hills but his policies are more progressive than any politician I've seen in my lifetime. Is age just a distraction?

Age is a factor for some politicians. People like Bernie Sanders have kept their ear to the ground and understand what the average American is dealing with. People like Donald Trump have never cared and will never care about what the average American is dealing with.

Either way, I do think age matters. I mean, you can't really carve out an exception even for people like Bernie. We should NOT have 80 year olds running this country. They do not know what it's like to live in this country today.
