We do not need any art to imitate this life

The only thing that should be highlighted from this time is the depressingly not-small amount of people who refused to do even the bare minimum for the good of their country and the people they share it with. That shit needs to be called out harshly lest it be normalized.

u/d3008 Mar 17 '21
Well godforbid I inconvenience myself for the country. Besides you're already doing that so why do I also have to do it? And who cares if I get it that's my body my choice after all. And we can't just shutdown the economy think of all the workers who would go homeless or business that would close forever because of it. You're just not thinking of other people

u/imakehersay Mar 17 '21
The fact that they’re claiming “my body my choice” is hypocrisy at it’s finest.

u/clangan524 Mar 17 '21
If I get Covid, clearly my body chose to let it in so it must be good! Just like the female body has systems to "shut down" rape sperm!

I may get shit for this but I honestly believe that a non-zero percent of my country (Australia) have behaved during the pandemic (we’re doing pretty well right now) because we didn’t want to be compared to the USA. Because there was nothing worse than being accused of behaving like the Americans during the height of the pandemic.

There's a joke here about how the worst part of forgetting your mask is that someone might think you're a Republican.

u/hipsterdannyphantom Mar 17 '21
Sadly with the internet, a lot of what life was like during COVID-19 will be documented for eternity.

u/Guardymcguardface Mar 17 '21
My employer gave us a fucking COMMEMORATIVE COIN to remember the pandemic. Still won't pay for sick time though! Or a raise, or anything useful.

u/floralbutttrumpet Mar 17 '21
Yeah, I actually dropped some shows over this. Living it is bad enough, I don't want this crap in my escapist stuff as well.
17
u/squigglesquaggler Mar 17 '21
Same! I was so upset when new episodes were about covid. I’m watching this to escape reality ffs.
22
u/RamboGoesMeow Mar 17 '21
Honestly, I appreciated the shows that had storylines about COVID. I felt like it really solidified how shitty it’s been, and how fucking stupid people that have denied its existence have been.
9
u/BroadBaker5101 Mar 17 '21
Grey’s Anatomy has entered the chat
2
u/RamboGoesMeow Mar 17 '21
Hmm, I’ve never watched that show. Did they do it justice, or did they jump the shark?
9
u/BroadBaker5101 Mar 17 '21
It’s set in a hospital so they really tried to deal with many of the issues of the pandemic and racial tensions facing Asian and Black doctors. It was a lot but I’m not mad that they addressed it I just didn’t want to be immersed in all of it again
3
u/RamboGoesMeow Mar 17 '21
Well alright, I’m gonna have to give that and “The Americans” a shot soon.
5
u/BroadBaker5101 Mar 17 '21
Grey’s is a Journey!!! Good luck and pray for your favorites
6
u/RamboGoesMeow Mar 17 '21
Holy moly, 17 seasons? Woof, my dating life is gonna take a major hit. Well, not because of the shows, but I’m sure as heck gonna use them as an excuse.
2
u/BroadBaker5101 Mar 17 '21
Lol it’s gonna take a few months but if you have nothing to do it’ll kill the time
5
u/Merry_Sue Mar 17 '21
I really liked how The Good Doctor did it. Mostly because it reminded me about how far we've come in knowledge and prevention.
They had a patient with all the symptoms and one of the younger doctors asked if the older doctor thought it was that new Corona Virus they'd heard about. And the doctor pretty much said "of course not, this person hasn't been anywhere near China lately" and sen't them home
Their pandemic lasted a long time in universe, but only two or three episodes, so it quickly went back to the case-of-the-week format

Same. Makes me think about when I was ornament shopping this year. Every year I get my spouse and kids a new ornament. There were so many 2020 ones "I survived covid" "fuck 2020" and so on. I couldn't help but think about how much I don't want to fucking be reminded of this shit every Christmas going forward. No. Out of sight and out of mind thank you very much.
22
u/SeiTyger Mar 17 '21
'gram gram, why isn't there an ornament for 2020?' 'We don't talk about it'
15
u/CanadianBeaver1983 Mar 17 '21
Lmao. They still recieved ornaments. Just no shitty covid themed ones. I have a 12 and 10 year old, and it was babies first Christmas. I had an ornament made that said "First year as a family of five" and the kids recieved 3 matching bears. These are the memories I want to look back on.

There’s a video game called “Vampyr” that takes place in 1918 London with part of the narrative revolving around the Spanish Flu. It was fairly interesting though the gameplay made it a bit hard to trudge through.

7 months ago I was seriously considering medically induced coma until the documentaries came out.

u/rifestrife Mar 17 '21
Except for South Park, couldn’t agree more. Their Pandemic and Vaccination specials are brilliant.

Same with the Great Depression. Survivors are so she’ll shocked we just don’t want to relive it

But every fucking stand standup thinks i want 20 minutes of their hour to be about it

Be me. Writing "medieval western" novel. Since 2018. So many works of fiction, in all mediums, in similar genres have a large war in recent narrative history as a catalyst for social change. This is due to the work being written and received in a postwar climate after the early 20th century shaping our world today. I know! I'll write it as a great plague, it's true to the setting, and actually different, people will find it new and intriguing. Yes. A plague shaping the book's setting, no one would be tired of that or feel it's derivative.
Oops.

Yep. Then suddenly Netflix has 100 pandemic/zombie/end of the world type movies. Netflix and panic.
2
u/[deleted] Mar 17 '21
Yeah but we have social media, and instantly accessible news. And it’s (rightly) been saturated with it for a year now.

As a high school educated individual. The only piece of literature I was made to read was The Great Gatsby, and it was from the point of view and about exactly the type of elite that we have seen this year as not giving a fuck about or acknowledging the pandemics real detrimental effects. Fuck Hollywood and the elites that have held the narrative with none of the real world experiences. 'Ooh I have to make sure I post a few selfies of me in a mask and visor on set to try to justify my non essential work with hundreds of people.' And worse. The ones who wear the ppe gear as some sort of hindrance or a badge and act like they are persevering through the pandemic. Fuck off.

u/jjkase Mar 17 '21
There were 2 or 3 new shows this year centered around covid. Pretty sure they were all cancelled.
2
u/dlini Mar 17 '21
yes, but how many films have “the cough” with blood on the handkerchief? i suppose TB wasn’t traumatic.

u/Taroca89 Mar 17 '21
Exactly this. I'm a historian and I feel like this will be remembered as one of those weird, obscure times in US history.

u/cartmaneric10 Mar 17 '21
This is different we need to know everything we can about the "Q"Han flu, it's what Jesus wants, their guy said so

After the 1918 pandemic ended in 1920, the roaring 20s began and people seem to really live it up drinking and dancing etc.
