My home value has nearly doubled since I bought it. That was even with the 2008 bust. My friends that rent here are so screwed, and if I ever had to sell and move, even at over $20/hr I would not be able to and have to move far rural.

The hpuse I bought in 08 more than doubled in value. It went up 80k since I sold it 3 years ago. The house I bought last year is now valued 60k more than I paid for it. The market in my area went nuts though. Its settling down now and I think the values will drop back down to closer to what they were a year ago. The only houses on the market are unrealistically high and people are starting to list at sensible prices.

The '08 bust put me instantly 80k underwater, but it's gone wild after that. I live in the Portland, OR area and it's still been wild. Rent is skyrocketing as well. Luckily they are building more now. But people are complaining about the new apartments because they don't like renters. Idiocy all around.

Yeah, the prices before 08 were ridiculous. My first house had originally sold for 100k more than I paid for it. It was really out of control.
