My continuing feelings regarding Kevin Sorbo: Disappointment
24
u/Curious_Interview 27d ago
Hilarious. The lack of context is fantastic!
22
u/UhPhrasing 27d ago
The context is that he's stupid as fuck and read a cue for emotion as dialogue.
7
u/cagedwisdom8 27d ago
Is this true??
13
u/darkskinnedjermaine 26d ago
I had heard that before as well, but an old Reddit comment gave me this:
As much as I wish this was true, I'm pretty sure this myth has been dispelled. The character Sorbo is playing is not Hercules, but if I remember a dark "alternate universe" character who was campy and silly and this is exactly the sort of line he'd deliver.
Edit: From Wikipedia
Sorbo himself in a 2013 interview explained what had really happened: The word "disappointed" does not actually appear anywhere in the script, but rather was Sorbo breaking character as an in-joke between him and the crew. He was referencing a scene from the film A Fish Called Wanda where Otto (played by Kevin Kline) cracks a safe only to find it empty, and screams "disappointed!" at it in frustration.

Yes, very. He was supposed to read the line in a disappointed tone but he literally screamed

Just saw a guy ranting about his wife with cancer not being able to stay at the hospital because of some pains, just because of people with Covid taking the beds, fuckin sucks

u/emotionlesspikachu 27d ago edited 27d ago
Adding to that, in a country that could vaccinate the entirety of mine in a day, not getting it is just plain stupid. Meanwhile, our youth (Cape Verde) is getting the vax, by the thousands everyday, donated by european countries. I only havent got mine because I caught covid before I could get it. Internet really ruined science these last years, damn
28
50
u/chillintheforest 27d ago
Well, the U.S. could also vaccinated the entire U.S. in a day, but here we are...
32
u/broritto89 27d ago
I just seen a joe rogan podcast snippet called “breakthrough cases” and in this podcast he has a article from a research paper from 2015 that said vaccines that don’t kill the virus but dumb it down can cause more deadly strands of the virus………. So guess what all the anti vaxxers are saying now lol
32
u/chillintheforest 27d ago
Lol that's ironic. If you dumb down people you get anti-vaxers, which also causes more deadly strands of the virus.
→ More replies→ More replies7
u/sqweet92 26d ago
And the writer of that exact paper he was quoting told him that he was spreading misinformation and misleading people wit his paper. Instead of clarifying and acknowledging that he misspoke he just told his audience to take vitamins and drink water.
5
u/propyro85 26d ago
Well ... drinking water is usually sound advice.
Drinking water in lieu of vaccinating yourself against a potentially fatal or life altering disease ... not so much.
15
2
u/corsair1617 27d ago
Not in reality. Yes we have lots of vaccines, and more and more coming everyday, but we don't have enough to vaccinate everyone in a day.
8
u/chillintheforest 27d ago
Yeah, it was half a joke and I think you get the point of the other half.
If all unvaccinated people in the US suddenly decided to get the vaccine, there wouldn't be any question about the ability to do it. It would just take time to coordinate.
93
u/BlowMoreGlass 27d ago
They say you should still get the vaccine even if you've already had COVID
111
u/emotionlesspikachu 27d ago
I can, but have to wait 3 months since I've had it. I want it, badly.
7
u/RaxinCIV 26d ago
I had covid back in March of this year. Went to the local site to find my timetable to get the vaccine. It told me to wait 3 more months to get it. About a month into my wait when everyone was allowed to get the vaccine; checked again and it was no longer posted to wait.
Close by CVS had the vaccine I wanted, and many free appointments. Fully vaccinated.
2
u/oconnellc 26d ago
Was the wait based on individual reasons related to your health? Or was it a general rule based on assuming that you already had a reduced susceptibility and so others should get shots first? Maybe once shots became more freely available, your wait wouldn't have any impact on anyone else's ability to get a shot, so you didn't have to wait any more?
2
u/RaxinCIV 26d ago
The wait was because I had the reduced susceptibility, so I waited. I also thought it might cause some complications and was trying to find out. I didn't find anything stating there could be complications, and so went and got the shot the same morning.

Internet really ruined science these last years, damn
Blame politicians who called the covid virus nothing more than the seasonal flu or it was fake and people are just pretending to die... Just like at that school shooting, where nobody actually died, because everybody was an actor and the whole thing was fake.
If people at the top aren't going to believe it, why would sheeple believe it. The US politics are like European soccer. Your either a die hard blue or red fan. Your team winning is the only thing that matters. If they didn't win, it's because the other team cheated. What your team says is true, regardless of facts.
5
u/emotionlesspikachu 26d ago
It's hard being a country that depends a lot on others and seeing how stupid these people at the top can be. We laugh, but it's really concerning at times. We're trying to develop with the help given, but feels awkward being less stupid than them.
38
u/what_the_a 27d ago
Ugh, I’m sorry. The US is trying to donate excess vaccines but there’s a bunch of red tape and logistics issues getting them internationally apparently. It makes me sad that the turds in this country don’t want them and they could be gladly put to use basically everywhere else.

u/emotionlesspikachu 27d ago edited 27d ago
We've been getting donations from Portugal, France, Hungary, Netherlands, but still nothing from the US (we're friends like that, we owe everyone something, it's incredible) Correction: we have indeed received vaccine donations from the US, my bad.

I think there are studies that show you should get the vax even if you had covid. I didn't read the news articles as I am vaxxed. But you might want to look to see what the science behind that is.
Edit: Ah, saw later on you realize this and need to wait. Stay safe!
22
u/Slabraton 26d ago
That's going to change if this gets worse. If tough choices have to be made, the antivaxxers aren't going to find any friends in the ER.
I have no sympathy for these people. I have grandchildren who can't get vaccinated and a son who is in harm's way. Antivaxxers are cowards.

Something that has really fuckin bothered me is the “freedom” crowd don’t seem to mind stripping someone of their freedom permanently. “Free country” to them just means a place where they can do what they want with no consequence. It’s not freedom for all, it’s freedom for me.

That's the core tenant of conservatism:

u/thesaddestpanda 26d ago
I've actually never heard of this before! But apparently Sorbo was going for regular chiropractic adjustments and he later had a stroke, which was odd because he was extremely healthy. It was found that spinal adjustments can cause strokes in patients in rare cases.
https://www.brainandlife.org/articles/actor-kevin-sorbo-reveals-his-secret-battle-with-stroke/
Did Chiropractic Adjustment Play a Role?
Sorbo didn't have any of the risk factors for stroke, which include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, obesity, a family history of stroke, drug use, or cardiovascular disease. Since his symptoms first appeared immediately after having his neck cracked, many of his doctors believed that the chiropractic adjustment, combined with his existing aneurysm, could have triggered his strokes.
While considered rare, there have been documented cases of strokes caused by chiropractic neck manipulation, says Howard Kirshner, M.D. professor and vice chairman of the department of neurology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, director of the Vanderbilt Stroke Center in Nashville, TN, and a Fellow of the AAN.
"Chiropractic manipulation of the neck carries the risk of tearing the vertebral artery that leads to the brain, thereby causing stroke or transient ischemic attack," Dr. Kirshner says. "Although the risk is low, it does happen, and physicians and patients should be aware of spinal manipulation therapy as a rare but potential risk factor for stroke."

"Not making all reasonable effort to secure your home will invalidate your insurance"
but a medical version being
"Not making all reasonable efforts to prevent disease spread invalidates your health insurance"

I used to be disappointed about Sorbo being a right wing asshole because I loved Hercules as a kid, then a couple years ago I saw a rerun of a very old episode (it was like a TV movie that set up the premise pre-series) and it was incredibly sexist. Over and over Hercules said blatantly misogynistic lines. Made me a lot less nostalgic.

Why TF are you going? Stick to your fkn guts if you don't trust the doctors. Don't take space from people with cancer, emergencies, life saving treatments... Lie in that bed you made. I like her point but people aren't taking up space in the er with covid that much where I am in new York. It's the people that can't afford meds and doctors, so they go to the er where we have to treat them regardless of whether they can pay. It's a universal healthcare issue. If you think you're having a heart attack and you wait ten hours in the er it isn't because of people with covid symptoms. It's because of people that need insulin and other basic shit they should be entitled to as human beings.

These are the same people that think that a teenage girl who ends up pregnant should be forced to deal with the ‘consequences’ of their actions and have to give birth to and raise a child they can’t care for. All anybodies asking for is consistency. You don’t have to get the shot (get pregnant) but if you do you shouldn’t have access to the hospital (abortion), you should have to deal with the consequences of you actions. Specifically dying of any easily preventable disease (being forced to give birth and raise the child). It’s really straightforward actually.

Their choices had consequences. Who's to say one choice was worse than the other?
-10
u/mastergunner99 27d ago
I can agree with that. I’m not vaccinated.
Have no problem wearing masks and social distancing.
I kill the viral load by maintaining excellent health.
I just came off a quarantine because two people on my trip to Universal Studios in Florida caught COVID. One of them was vaccinated.
But I’m smart enough to recognize that even with exposure, my body could be fighting of a growing viral load.
It’s all about managing risk.
Stay safe everyone. Do whatever you feel is best for your health and continue to encourage others to do the same.
14
u/YuriCatslash 27d ago
I'm no expert but me and everyone else here are fairly certain that a highly transmittable virus doesn't care if you're as healthy as a horse. And you went to Florida so your chances of getting it sky rocketed too. But hey, you do you bud. Just don't go to the ER if things get bad, I'm sure your top notch immune system will help you push through whatever future anguish you're most definitely going to experience. ;)

u/bobjonesjunk 26d ago
Question in regards to managing risk. The odds of dying from the vaccine is hundred of times lower than COVID. From a risk management perspective wouldn’t it make more sense to get the vaccine since you almost certainly won’t have side effects?
2
u/mastergunner99 26d ago
For me, the answer would be no.
The vaccine as it's currently made manipulates my body into lowering symptoms. It doesn't work towards the development of my immune system to fight off the vaccine itself. People with vaccinations are carrying a viral load if they get infected and there body isn't doing anything more to fight it off particularly when the symptoms themselves are being suppressed.
For me, if the objective is to lower my symptoms, I can achieve that without the need of a vaccine. I am able to solve the same problem. And I'm able to do so with peer reviewed scientific methods. I wouldn't do it if there wasn't a measure of science validating it to begin with.
As is, the risk of an infection for me is very slim. This virus is everywhere now. Like 95% of the country. Granted, I currently live in Puerto Rico, but all the same, I'm sure the virus is rampant here amongst the population here as well.
There are days when I get slight immune reactions, such as sniffles or a bit of a runny nose. It could be from basic dust particles, all the way to being COVID. But I'm very aware of any symptoms that I have, and when I experience one, I will always take the extra steps and precautions not to spread whatever it is I may or may not have, as well as increase the defense by enriching various parts of my body that help fight off virus and illnesses.
I'm not anti-vaxx at all. Most people don't go through the lengths I go through for great health, and in that deficit they should do something to inhibit the spread. For most, they have chosen this vaccination to do that. And that's fine. It's just not the choice for me.

It literally does. That is quite literally exactly what it does, you profound avatar of Dunning-Kruger.

The data would suggest different given the amount of cases that are arising amongst the vaccinated and the viral load that is present in them.
This has always been a thing. Which is why they advocate for vaccinated people to still social distance and wear masks.
The vaccine we have for COVID isn’t the same type of vaccine we have used in the past. For that, your statement would be accurate whereas with prior vaccines that promoted an immune response to develop immunity.
Even those with antibodies are not immune beyond several months.
Hopefully we can get to the point where there is a vaccination for those that opt for it, where it can help the immune system fight off the viral load and not just lessen the symptoms.
Seeing that it’s the symptoms that kill people, its a strong alternative for those with immune systems that are able to be compromised.
If you’re getting the sniffles a few times a year, or any type of respiratory illness, and are not interested in developing health habits to avoid that, the vaccination as is would be a good thing for you.

My god you are painfully stupid, aren't you?
Get fucking vaccinated. End of discussion.

I’m good. But appreciate the concern.
Stay safe and do what’s best for you.
I assure you, I’m doing my part to keep myself, my family, and others safe.
It’s not about the vaccine. It’s about reducing the spread and I’m doing my part in that.
Take care.

No the fuck you are not.
'Your part' includes getting fucking vaccinated, you muppet.

Appreciate your concern, though I’ll tell ya that if you’re motivation is for me to get vaccinated, the method you’re going about it isn’t so effective.

I am not concerned about you in the slightest.
I am concerned for everyone your stupid, self-important, Dunning-Kruger ass comes into contact with.
Stop being a fucking idiot and get fucking vaccinated. Jesus goddamn Christ we have been at this for a year and a half now, it's not fucking news, and every single one of you fucking mouthbreathers who refuses to get a perfectly safe and effective vaccine is guaranteeing that the pandemic will continue on.
Get the fucking shot you stupid, pathetic, useless little shit.
