Follow up with guest after 4 star review? Question

We recently got a review that was 5 stars across the board, but 4 stars overall. I’m annoyed but genuinely want to find out how we can make our place better. We have received a few 4’s for value, and I am considering reaching out to ask how we could improve for future guests. Good idea? Or leave it alone?

I’m one of those people, not just with Airbnb, but ratings for anything. To me, it’s virtually impossible to get 100% just by doing your “job”. It truly requires a personally touch, going above and beyond, etc.

This goes the same way for guests, too. I always go the extra mile and clean places before I leave. It’s not required but I’m sure the hosts appreciate it. Hell, I even do the same in hotel rooms. Probably not typical, but above and beyond.

In the real world I agree 100%. But in AirBnB world 4 stars is actively bad.

Our two rooms share a bathroom and a shower. In the real world that just isn't a 5 star experience. But in AirBnB world if we drop below 4.8 we lose Superhost status, and below 4.3 (I think) we get kicked off the platform.

You are damaging perfectly fine hosts when you do this.
