What is an anime where you genuinely don't understand why it is as popular as it is? Discussion

For example, while I personally might dislike SAO, I can totally see why it's as popular as it is. It has a pretty cool premise, great animation and music, a harem element that probably resonates well with the target audience etc.

But what's an anime that is decently popular, but you just can't figure out why it's as popular as it is?

Edit: Guys, if you're gonna ad "I can see why it's popular, but..." just don't post lol. This isn't supposed to be about what you personally dislike.

My biggest problem was that it seemed to be a show that wanted me to take the plot seriously but also had giant mechs that were piloted by two kids having metaphorical (?) doggy style sex inside of it or something.

Dumb ecchi stuff is great (hell, I love Highschool DxD), but not if you want me to think of the show as anything other than dumb ecchi entertainment.

Also Zero Two was a really boring character after how much the internet had hyped her up for me.

02 got a lot less interesting when she started fawning over the MC

She was never interesting beyond horny waifu with literal horns.

What can I say, I like horny waifus. Notice me senpai waifus, not so much.

Yeah, but at least you could say her character e had some flair. After that she was just kind of hiro’s love puppy

Honestly for me, the plot between kokoro and mitsuru was way more interesting than 02 and hiro If they wouldn’t have had that ecchi aspect it’d be so much better, lol I love kokoro and mitsuru so much that it’s still my favourite anime but I don’t get the hype behind zero two

That shit needed some more development. They really didn’t use their 24 slot of episodes well, and a lot of them were episodes that could have flashed out the characters better

02 was insufferable. She spent tons of time complaining about others not liking her, when she almost got them killed several times. Hating a total asshole isn't racist.

Yeah, I noped out hard during that second episode when they showed how they "piloted" the mechs. Dumb and cringe as hell. Didn't even finish the episode. I'm guessing it's all supposed to be some metaphor over the course of the entire story to show how good relationships are supposed to work, but I just don't care. It's all too fucking dumb.

Even that hurts the logic of the show, because it boils to "tfw Darling in the FranXX is 'Daimadaler" if it was played seriously instead of "dumb ecchi for dumb ecchi's sake."

Yeah, I like ecchi but metaphorical doggystyle sex is my limit, at that point you are just appealing to horny teenagers, really lame and cringy fanservice.
