It’s not often I agree with the Pope, but here is an instance where I do. I just hope his word carries as much influence as people would like us to believe.

Francis is a Jesuit, which is the most left-leaning sect of the church. A lot of conservatives Catholics think of them as heretics, so it was a big deal when he was appointed Pope.

I went to a Catholic Grade school and a Jesuit high school, and I can attest that it's a very different mindset than what you think of most Christians believing. Basic philosophy boils down to "we can give our interpretation, but ultimately God judges, not us." And a much more realistic world view than most Christians.

I remember going to confession my Junior year, and telling the priest I was having sex with my girlfriend, and his response being, "Well I hope you're smart enough to use a condom." And just being pleasantly surprised by that. Stuff like that. Unlike other sects of the church, they taught that you do not have to be a baptized Christian to go to heaven, and that your deeds are more important than your faith.

Honestly, they're obviously backwards on a lot of stuff, but if all Christians had a Jesuit mindset, our country would be a much, much better place.
