How did that slip the censor.

u/ELEMENTALITYNES Toronto Blue Jays 17d ago

They didn’t expect the Costner

52

u/galloog1 New York Yankees 17d ago

Not sure what they expected. It's literally a scene in the movie when the players curse in front of the daughter and apologize.

16

u/psu50502424 17d ago

Nobody expects the Kevin Costner

They also leave the room when A Rod starts talking.

Really Alex, your favourite part of the movie is everyone's favourite part of the movie? Cool.

In PG movies back in the late 80s, you’re allowed to say one “shit.”

2

u/W1mpyDaM00ch Chicago White Sox 16d ago

If you watch the opening scene of The Beastmaster you were allowed alot more than saying shit in PG movies lol

I'm more furious at how the video cut off too soon. "Couldn't hardly play catch with Dwire because........"

It's based off the baseball field from the movie Field Of Dreams. It's a one night only thing.

8

u/Jayhawk11 Chicago Cubs 17d ago

Until next year...

29

u/finniganstake 17d ago

It's definitely different. I thought the hour pregame was good to get the context. Definitely checkout the movie, maybe with your dad.

17

u/watchpigsfly Los Angeles Dodgers 17d ago

I feel like it says a lot about the relationship people have with their father whether they feel they should or should not watch Field of Dreams with their dad, lol

13

u/williamtbash New York Yankees 17d ago

My dad asked me to come over to play catch tonight. First time in 20 years.

4

u/watchpigsfly Los Angeles Dodgers 17d ago

I think I'd have a stroke if that happened

14

u/toughboy New York Yankees 17d ago

I’d absolutely be having a stroke as my father passed several years ago.

24

u/unodostreys Atlanta Braves 17d ago

Kevin Costner is a dude. He walks, talks, and acts like one. Don’t fault him one bit. As much as I’ll get clowned for saying this, “For Love of the Game” is one of my favorite baseball movies of all time.

6

u/ChunkySnarf Washington Nationals 17d ago

That’s a good movie! Costner really kills it in baseball movies

43

That's the first thing I've seen on this broadcast that might actually appeal to young people under the age of 30.

3

That really sounded like a backhanded stab at his wife who probably had a catch with the back of Kevin's head.

Wow, A-Rod looks old there.

2

u/tyler-86 Los Angeles Dodgers 17d ago

2

4

u/NedShah Montreal Expos 17d ago

FOX are somehow even worse at sports than they are at news. Jesus! This is fromage

7

u/bellknobbottomblues 17d ago

Fox baseball has always been terrible. And I'm not a Joe Buck hater. I like his subtle subversiveness, but Fox just never got on track with doing baseball.

3

u/[deleted] 17d ago

[deleted]

0

u/bellknobbottomblues 17d ago

That is true. Maybe he'd be better calling baseball on radio? Still think he's better than Nance as a national figure. Al Michaels > Buck > Nance. ABC doesn't seem to have a national guy anymore.

1

u/[deleted] 17d ago

[deleted]

1

u/bellknobbottomblues 17d ago

There is a certain gravitas added to events when the announcer is "an announcer" v. "a football guy," etc. Cable TV sort of killed that I guess. Everything is a niche thing now. No more Howard Cosell, Jim McKay, Muffburger types anymore.

2

u/NedShah Montreal Expos 17d ago

Sometimes, they end up with like 6 old men as guests in the broadcast booth. They are pretty much guaranteed to pass on 2 or 3 innings of play-by-play per game.

0

u/Rolling-Rocker Seattle Mariners 17d ago

And I really like bucks not so subtle submissiveness while he sucks aikman off in the booth every week

2

I'd expect that from Billy Chapel but not from Kevin Costner.

I wish they could show how many times I mute the TV during broadcasts. He sounds like a 13 year old at LLWS who rode the bench.
