MLB didn't fuck up royally this time. This thing is actually really neat.

If you have Hulu Live TV, you can go to the Fox app/Website and use your Hulu login to watch it there instead. That's what I did

Learned this way too late. The pre-game and first two innings were a nightmare.

Plus Hulu restricts location, whereas you can watch wherever you go with the content creators app itself.

Got a link to instructions or any other info? I bought a little crappy indoor antenna but I'm not satisfied with it.

https://www.popularmechanics.com/culture/tv/how-to/a6608/build-your-own-digital-tv-antenna/
This is the basis of one, in a pinch you can straighten out wire clothes hangers or go to Home Depot and buy x feet of copper wire for dirt cheap.
Any piece of wood will work to attach to. I went and painted mine beforehand and added a base since it’s close to the tv and I wanted it to not look as shitty.
Connectors they sell on Amazon packs like 4 for $5.
If you want to get real in depth you can search your area for what frequencies the furthest channels are and build accordingly to get them.

Whatever you do, don’t go to a website like sportsurge.net or bilasport.net or any similar website and watch the game that way. That would not be very cash money.

Weird. I'm watching it on Hulu too and it's been fine for me. No issues at all.

Yes it’s perhaps a touch too large but the design is perfect.
136
u/palmtreesxiv Atlanta Braves 17d ago
Thats because it wasnt designed by MLB, but by Fox. They've been planning the broadcast for the past 2 years, and they were the ones who came up with this scorebug, MLB said "sure, do it"

u/hottytoddy_sko St. Louis Cardinals 17d ago
I thought scorebug meant there was a bug with the scoreboard or something so I spent forever trying to figure out what was wrong with it lol

They blacked the game out in Boston for some reason
49
u/darthstupidious Seattle Mariners 17d ago
People from Boston wouldn't know what to do with something this wholesome
-18
u/droid_mike 17d ago
They were supposed to play on the original field. That was a massive fail. No wonder they kept it a secret. Also, in true MLB fashion, they blacked the game out on MLB.TV
23
u/Yossarian1138 Jackie Robinson 17d ago
Dumb take.
The original field is too small, doesn’t have a wall, dugouts, scoreboard, broadcast booths, or seats.
Adding any of those would have completely ruined the original field and the views of the house, and made it no longer interesting at all for fans of the movie.
Instead they left the original so it is still worth seeing, using, and walking through, while adding what is essentially a fully functional minor league stadium with a lot of the same feel 100 yards away.
They made the right choice. It would be impossible to run a major league game and a national TV broadcast from the actual field without ruining it.
1
u/PiratesVSOrioles 13d ago
Did MLB buy the land or are they renting it
Were the Sox compensated for loss of revenue for losing a home game
-4
u/droid_mike 16d ago
They used to play the Hall of Fame game at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, and I didn't need to change anything. They could have had a temporary scoreboard and a few temporary bleachers to allow a few fans to attend and had it done right. If they needed a larger field they could have mowed down a few more rows of corn. I mean, if they weren't going to do it right, then they shouldn't have done it at all.
1
u/PiratesVSOrioles 13d ago
The house is in the way for bleachers and clubhouse. TF is wrong w u
1
u/droid_mike 13d ago
If you're not going to do it right then don't do it at all. I'm shocked that my friends and I in the minority on this. I turned off the TV I was so disgusted at Commissioner Manfred for screwing things up again. I was more shocked to find that only my close group of friends agreed that this was BS.

At no point did they ever hide where they were playing or even imply they were playing on the movie set field.
0
u/droid_mike 16d ago
Yes they did. They said they were playing at the Field if Dreams. This wasn't the Field of Dreams.
2
u/ryguy32789 Chicago White Sox 16d ago
AT the Field of Dreams, not ON the field of dreams. They posted construction photos of the new stadium and field for years

The people that loathes it must love Bally's scorebug.

u/raktoe Toronto Blue Jays 17d ago
Am I the only one that likes the Bally score bug. Granted, I only watch it for other teams, but I like the look of it, and I like the little news that comes on in the right. Idk, I literally watched a game with it earlier this year because I saw so many people talking about how bad it was, and now I specifically pick streams with it. I like this scorebug as well though.
4
u/StormTheTrooper California Angels 16d ago
Bally bug is the least clean of them all, but it is great when you are watching games on mute (like when your child wants to watch cartoon and you split screens with her. Just an example) or as a neutral with teams that you only really know 1-2 batters.
The worst scorebug is MASN's, and it's not even close. I can barely watch Nats and Orioles home feeds.

I feel like my gut instincts on the pitch are better. No more “…wait, did that pitch go through box or around it? On second thought, is the box in the front of the plate or behind it? The catcher caught it at the top of the box so it’s a strike but he’s 2-3 feet behind the plate so the ball crossed the plate above the box…ah fuck I hate that box!”

u/Chulpo Kansas City Royals 17d ago
What is a score bug?
12
u/UselessRube 17d ago
The thing that displays the score on the broadcast. It’s what OP posted an image of.
3
u/anubis2051 New York Yankees 17d ago
I think it's because the stadium isn't mapped for it.
5
u/Hail2TheOrange Puerto Rico 17d ago
Most broadcasts don't need the mapping. The overlays typically aren't super accurate. They're meant for entertainment not accuracy.

I had no idea it was called a "scorebug". I was looking for some sort of error in the picture the whole time.
2
u/paulc1978 17d ago
Watched bits and pieces in 4K. It was amazing to see the texture of the uniforms and whatnot but the broadcast was super dark. I stream everything through my Chromecast and everything I’ve watched has the correct brightness except for this game.
2
u/ssjgotenks New York Yankees 17d ago
Not necessarily the broadcast I think there just wasn’t enough lights there. I thought the same thing around the 6 or so
1
u/paulc1978 17d ago
I thought it may have been the broadcast because the score bug even looked darker than it should. I notice in general that FOX usually is more dim and not as vibrant as ESPN broadcasts. Of course, with 4K there were only some Olympic events broadcast in 4K so there aren’t a lot of shows to compare.
1
u/thelongderek Atlanta Braves 16d ago
I’ve noticed this is a theme for live sports in 4K the olympics were a little dark as well. I’m guessing they will figure it out eventually

There was a time he really did suck. He came up way too early to be calling national games and we had to watch him learn on the job for a good 15 years before he started improving. He's actually serviceable now but it took a long time to get there.
