Iowa natives, is it like that every night? That was absolutely gorgeous.

don't live there anymore but I lived in Eastern Iowa until my mid twenties and yeah I'd say its a pretty common sunset. if anything not quite as much range of color as you sometimes see

66

u/TheFrankOfTurducken Detroit Tigers 17d ago

Former eastern Iowan - would agree. Used to go to River Bandits games and sometimes you’d get a nice cool summer day after a rain and when the sun set it was really something.

Also cruising along rural highways at sunset blaring music was a pastime lol

14

u/SafeLinks 17d ago

You’re 100% correct. Just moved to southwestern Illinois and oh my god driving home after work is fantastic, absolutely stunning.

28

u/meahoymemoyay Florida Marlins 17d ago

Not a native but I visit frequently. Summer sunsets are incredible. Especially out in a field or a hilltop.

It's pretty common for the sky to be this beautiful at sunset. Iowa doesn't have a lot going for it, but if you like big skies and rolling hills, I would still not recommend coming here

Had me in the first half.

At least we're not Nebraska.

but seriously the smoke from the western wildfires are playing a bit of a role there.

pain.

u/norepedo 17d ago

Took this in Moline 2 weeks ago, overlooking the Mississippi and Dubuque, about 45 min east of Dyersville.

10

u/Next_Gen_Nyquil_ Chicago White Sox 17d ago

Midwesterner, yeah it’s pretty common in the summers. They never last too long but if you catch that prime 5 minutes it’s glorious

8

u/Vannatta Boston Red Sox 17d ago

Yes, unless there is a big thunderstorm about to roll in.

6

u/cman811 Chicago Cubs 17d ago

I live elsewhere in the midwest but yeah this is pretty common. TBH it would probably be more impressive without the hazy smokeclouds from the fires. Then it would accent the actual clouds.

6

u/dom2133 Brooklyn Dodgers 17d ago

I live only 80 miles away from LA down the 10 and it looks like this multiple times a week. Do most places in the country not look this beautiful at sunset?

-3

u/RDiaz New York Mets 16d ago

East coast doesn’t get sunsets like this.

1

u/ChampionDrake Florida Marlins 16d ago

I can speak for Florida when I say we have awesome sunsets.

5

u/bart-spoon Pittsburgh Pirates 16d ago

A lot of the Midwest is like this. Not every night, but it’s not uncommon either.

8

u/Kidd5 Samsung Lions 17d ago

It probably helps that Iowa is more rural/agricultural land compared to most American cities which means less light pollution equating to clearer more beautiful sunsets and night skies.

10

u/Epicallytossed Minnesota Twins 17d ago

A lot of the midwest is like this, Minnesota looks like this regularly

10

u/huntnfish93 17d ago

Iowa, Nebraska, North and South Dakota... a underappreciated beauty in itself. What got me was the broadcasters commenting in how nice people are. It's like, why then do you live in places where people are assholes? America is founded on small towns Joe Buck, fuck off

4

u/TheDarkGrayKnight Seattle Mariners 16d ago

Well that escalated quickly. Besides if everyone moved to the small towns they would no longer be small towns.

2

u/CJmaq 16d ago

I live 45 minutes from the Field of Dreams and yes the sunsets are like that here. Since they are so common we take them for granted.

2

u/HankyPanky80 17d ago

I was born and raised in Iowa. Sunsets were often pretty cool. But a sunset during forest fire season in the northwest is pretty cool. Just have to deal with air quality that will probably shorten your life.

1

u/Dvel27 15d ago

There was a tornado warning the night before

This is the most aesthetically pleasing sports event of all time

134

u/teocamacho San Francisco Giants 17d ago

This and the Tahoe game for the NHL. These outdoor games are really special

40

u/JacobDeGod48 New York Mets 17d ago

I loved the Tahoe game this year and it was especially cool because I have been to Tahoe myself (it's amazing). Also, when they came back to play the game at night I thought that was pretty cool

30

u/DoEyeKnowYou 17d ago

I was gonna say that Tahoe outdoor game a couple months ago had a pretty damn good aesthetic too. Kind of splitting hairs I think to decide between the two.

1

u/wallawalla22 Cincinnati Reds 16d ago

The Tahoe game was a mess. The ice was so terrible. Sure it was asthetically pleasing, but I'd take the game in the Big House over Tahoe any day as far as atmosphere goes.

As a hockey fan, this Iowa venue was picture perfect.

10

u/Nas160 Toronto Blue Jays 17d ago

I think we could just say outdoor sports in general are sick. NASCAR races that take place from the afternoon to night bring gorgeous skies, especially Darlington for some reason.

16

u/bearscanblowme Colorado Rockies 17d ago

20

u/UlyssesRambo 17d ago

Lol. For those that want to see what that game actually looked like. Here.

4

u/Rebelrenegade24 Atlanta Braves 16d ago

Tahoe got ruined by the sun, but besides that it was a good watch

1

u/PiratesVSOrioles 13d ago

How, it was at night and u couldn't see any scenery

1

u/Rebelrenegade24 Atlanta Braves 13d ago

The avalanche and golden knights game started about 3pm ET but had to be called off and resumed at midnight because the sun melted the ice

1

u/PiratesVSOrioles 13d ago

Yeah, my point exactly

21

u/Other-Ad4935 Texas Rangers 17d ago

Oregon/Wisconsin Rose Bowl was the best sports sunset I’ve ever seen. But Field of Dreams game was definitely a close second.

13

u/JiveHawk St. Louis Cardinals 17d ago

The shot of the Oregon helmets with the sunset reflecting was super dope

4

u/lamboat2019 Milwaukee Brewers 17d ago

Pain.

1

u/PiratesVSOrioles 13d ago

The Rose Bowl was not in the Rose Bowl this year

Like the Cotton Bowl not being in its namesake for a few decades now

Rose Bowl sunset would like a word

40

u/JacobDeGod48 New York Mets 17d ago

And it can have it..... with someone else

7

u/JSA17 Colorado Rockies 17d ago

A major factor is that it isn't just the sunset. It's everything. From the sunset to the field to the uniforms, this game is gorgeous.

Man, I love baseball.

52

u/istrx13 Seattle Mariners 17d ago

Me too. Football is my second favorite. But to me football kind of feels like a sleezy one night stand. No deep feelings, just physical.

But baseball…baseball is my one true love. The one I see myself staying with 70+ years.

sorry guys I’ve been drinking

10

u/rvnnt09 Kansas City Royals 16d ago

I get it. Football is my favorite cause it's fast and dirty, I like the physicality of it. I like baseball cause of the game itself. Like football is the one I wanna fuck consequences be damned but baseball is the one I want to settle down and have a solid relationship with...sorry I've also been drinking

If anyone better than me at photoshop could remove the Fox logo and box score that would be awesome. This makes for a sweet wallpaper.

The Rockies wear purple for a reason, this is a very common occurrence

1

You could tell me that's from a video game and I'd fully believe you.

Hope they do at least of these games a year. Several near by teams could participate as home team: Brewers, Cards, Cubs, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Twins, KC. Most all the NL and AL central teams and whoever they play against.

1
